The Benefits of Being
Ahead of Your Time I’m sometimes told I’m ahead
of my time with my mindset-shifting approach to lifestyle management. The successful
workplace of the future will have managers respecting staff not just as workers but
as 24/7 human beings, who work best when they are encouraged to enjoy a
harmonious mix of energising work and personal life interests and goals. This will be
essential to: ·
Attract and keep skilled staff ·
Retain access to the skills and
experience of mature staff ·
Maintain high workplace productivity and staff
commitment ·
Foster a happy and attractive working
environment, and ·
(the bottom line) maximize profitability
I take this as a compliment. It means
I’m getting in on the ground floor of addressing the rapidly rising wave of concern
about an ageing workforce, resultant skilled staff shortages, burnout due to prolonged
excessive stress and the growing reluct work for perceived uncaring managers. There are organizations that make things
happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened. On the
issue of building this sort of workplace culture, into which group does your organization
fall? Many will mouth they are in the first group, but most are actually very much still in
the second. I like to think now is a good time to be
ahead of your time. Those who don’t will wonder what happened when they find they lost
all their best people to organizations that did make it happen. -
