ARE YOU PLANNING FOR STARDOM?

(An excerpt from You Must Act! The Acting
Career Course by Bob Fraser)

STATE YOUR GOALS - Write down exactly what you
want to happen. Remember not to get caught up
in any limiting beliefs.

You will not get a positive outcome from your
negative statements - so don't focus on what
you DON'T want - focus on and write down what
you DO want.

CAUTION: One more time ... please be careful
about that 'working actor' trap.

One definition of working actor is having a
role to act - and 'working' on it. You can do
that right away. I guarantee it.

Pick up the latest Backstage - or other casting
listings - and if you audition for 10 of the shows
in there ... you will most likely get cast in at
least one of them.

They're probably mostly unpaid - but you will
be 'working' as an actor.

Of course, you may also have to work as a waiter
as well - so you can pay rent and buy groceries.

But, subconsciously, you will relax - because you
have fulfilled one definition of that phrase you
used in thinking about your future ... that phrase,
'working actor' just isn't specific enough to work.

I repeat my concerns about 'working actor,' yet
again, because this phrase is in current use by
a lot of actors - and it's a form of 'shorthand'
that can cost you what you really desire.

There are a lot of other bad habits of thinking -
phrases we all say, that trap us into NON-ACTION:

"My life is crazy."

"It all comes down to luck."

"It's such a competitive business."

"I'm an artist, not a business person."

Listen to good advice: Stop using this sort of
'catch phrase' as a way of thinking - your brain
is receiving this information and operating as
if these generally false, clich?, catch-phrases
are reality.

If you persist with these 'inner-dialogues' -
using conversational shorthand - your brain
will eventually lead you to one of those
not-so-hot solutions I've outlined earlier
... or worse.  Then your brain will relax; as
it has done the job it was requested to do.

Don't use this sort of conversational gambit
(habit) to convince yourself - or anyone else -
that you want anything less than your ACTUAL
DEFINITION of success. If you keep repeating
these phrases (and hundreds of others like
them) - it will work against you.

DON'T B.S. YOUR BRAIN

TELL IT THE TRUTH

TELL IT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT

YOUR BRAIN WILL FIND SOLUTIONS

IT WORKS

Remember THE JIM CARREY PRINCIPLE - There is no
room in a successful person's mind for false or
modest goals.

(This relates to the time Jim Carrey wrote
himself a check for a million dollars for
"acting services" when he could barely pay
his rent. That check made it real for Jim
Carrey - and eventually it became real.)

STATE YOUR REAL GOALS - If you don't know what
your real definition of success is, then your
first step is to figure that out.

Your brain is the one tool that is infallible
when it comes to finding the pathway to your
dream.

But your brain will only recognize the next step
on the ladder - if you tell it where the ladder
is leading.

"Many people have climbed the ladder only
to discover, once at the top, that the ladder
was leaning against the wrong wall." ~ Lao-Tsu

Another word of warning: Don't start climbing,
if you don't intend to go up.

Okay, back to making your plan ...

It's really up to you to decide WHEN you want to
start taking the steps to get your acting career
off the ground - and onto the red carpet.

I hope it's soon.
