Good Morning Subscriber... This week's newsletter has a great success story from one of our subscribers, announcement of a short sale, and a reminder about a terrific free resource that is only available this Thursday. First the success story: If you recall, in the last newsletter I went on a bit about the importance of a website to your acting career. Well, to prove the point, I got this email from one of our subscribers - Chuck Roy ... Dear Bob, I just read your "controversial thoughts for today" and thought that you may appreciate a real life story. Our daughter, Courtney Roy, has been performing semi- professionally since she was 9. Since we live in south central Pennsylvania, just outside of Harrisburg, we don't have a lot paid roles for kids nor are there a lot of casting or talent agencies in our area. I am in the computer field and have had my own web sites for about 10 years. Our one son is a professional web designer. Thus, since I was already paying for the space and it was only going to cost me $10 per year, we set up courtneyroy.com (the site is designed to protect her from predators - since everything actually goes through me). When Courtney was 12, we decided to go to an open call for XYZ Modeling and Talent agency. After the audition, we were asked to sign a 2 year contract which we did and provided all the head shots, resumes, etc. that they requested. That is when they hit us with attending a big modeling talent show in Flordia. The cost (paid to the agency) would have been close to $3000 plus our cost of travel and staying in Orlando for about 10 days. NOPE - that's not the way the business works. So, we stopped talking to them and they stopped talking to us. But, as far as we knew the contract was still in force so we included the XYZ Modeling and Talent agency on all of Courtney's resumes. About 15 months later, we got an email from the contact form on Courtney's web site. It was from 123 Productions, the #1 premier video production company in our area. They wanted us to call them ASAP. Well, I called them and they signed Courtney (age 14) to a 3 day educational video that they were producing for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Courtney, at age 14, made $1800 ($600 per day with no agency fees) plus got out of school for three days to do something that she loves. All of the other three kids were represented by agents from the Philadelphia area and their agency fees reduced their $600 to $540. As it turned out, when 123 Productions needed kids, they went through their headshots file and picked some. They contacted the agencies that had provided the headshots. When they contacted XYZ Modeling and Talent agency, XYZ told them that Courtney was never one of their clients. Apparently when we refused to pay the money we were dropped. The casting assistant at 123 then did a Google Search for "Courtney Roy" and immediately found her website. If it hadn't been for her website, she'd never have gotten the part. Since that time, completely as a result of her website, Courtney also got a solo singing gig where she met the governor, one senator, and a wide group of influential people from all over Pennsylvania. In conclusion, I regularly monitor the statistics for the courtneyroy.com website. Although it is hard to tell which "hits" are from what types of folks, I estimate that the website is getting approximately 15 to 20 each month from people in the entertainment industry. The web site is a very, very, useful tool. I just wish I had more time to work on improving it. Chuck Roy Courtney Roy's Dad *********** IT'S TIME TO TAKE ACTION! (THE SALE) There's an old saying in business that you may have heard: "If you fail to plan, you're planning to fail." A careful reading of any star's biography will convince you that the ability to plan and then take action is the 'secret' behind some of the biggest careers in our industry. That's because building an acting career in today's show business - IS a business. And like all businesses, it is going to require a clear plan of action and a lot of hard work to make it truly successful. Sure, you're talented and you love acting - but unless you're running your career like a business - taking the right steps in the right order - 'making it' can seem almost impossible. WRITE IT DOWN AND REALLY SUCCEED Over the past 5 years I've been helping actors discover the critical skills of pursuing a professional acting career, through my virtual courses ... You Must Act!, Nail It! Delivering The Hypnotic Audition, and Headshot Secrets Revealed But the feedback I've been getting says that, although most actors understand the concept of taking notes - making decisions - and building their plan, many just can't seem to get started with these vital business building steps. Basically most actors are slowed down in these career critical tasks because they're facing the same problem every writer faces daily ... the blank page. That's why I designed and built a downloadable and printable planner and workbook - that I call Action! Step-by-step instructions, easy-to-use forms, and a 52 week planner make the job of building your plan - and then following through - as simple as 1-2-3. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR CAREER & BUSINESS NOW If you're having 'issues' taking care of these crucial duties of every business owner, Action! The Professional Actor's Planner & Workbook might be the answer you've been looking for. As you go through the workbook, page by page, reading each module - and answering a few simple questions - you will be building a 'personalized' plan for your acting business ... automatically. When you finish going through the modules and answering the questions, you will feel more confident, have more clarity about your real business, and you'll own a plan of action (customized to your skills and desires) that can help you get total control over your professional acting career. Wouldn't you like to start getting the results you need and want in your career? Here are just a few of the things that will be improved once you've completed the Action! Workbook. You'll know PRECISELY WHAT KIND of acting career you want to pursue. Instead of trying to succeed with a generic business plan, you'll benefit from knowing what kind of career will work best for you - and make you the happiest. You'll know the powerful & simple to use 'BEST PRACTICES' that have stood the test of time ... taking charge of what can be controlled, using your skills at peak levels and working from a customized step-by-step plan. You'll know the big difference between having a goal and TRUE DESIRE. And you'll see why only true desire produces the force to sustain the persistent focus and action you need - to get to 'the red carpet.' You'll start to use the proven ORGANIZATIONAL TOOLS the 'pros' have always used. Improve every submission, audition and contact by taking care of business. Small changes that will jump-start your positive results. You'll TAKE CHARGE of all the ins and outs your daily business, avoid costly mistakes, maintain momentum, and start seeing genuine progress - because you'll have a "map" that leads you into the ranks of money-making entertainers. You'll know PRECISELY what sort of headshots you should be getting, how to stress your strong points on your r?sum?, the kind of agent you should be looking for, how to advertise and market your 'product.' You'll find yourself TOTALLY CONFIDENT - because you'll know exactly what steps to take next - to keep your career on track and moving forward. Plus you'll own the skills of the informed professional actor. ... and (as they say) much more. SAVE 30% -- FOR THE NEXT 9 DAYS ONLY Now to be honest, I haven't done a particularly good job of promoting this excellent resource (too many irons in the fire, I guess) but many of the actors who've gotten it are sending me stories of their success since they started using the system. So, I thought this might be a good time to have a little sale for Action! The good news? For the next 9 days ... subscribers to this newsletter can get Action! for just 19 bucks. That's about 30% off the regular price. And, it's an instant download so you can start taking positive steps today! If you've been thinking about getting Action! and really building your acting career plan - now is the time to grab it. Here's the address: GO HERE => http://www.showbizhowto.com/action.html By the way, please don't share this URL - this sale is for subscribers only. ************ And finally, this reminder: Miata Edoga is having another of her free teleseminars about getting your financial life in order. This is a freebee - and those subscribers who got in on the last one have been sending me excellent feedback. The free seminar is the day after tomorrow and if you have any of the following issues, you'd be wise to sign up and attend -- Are you dedicated to your craft but tired of being a "starving artist?" Do you find yourself always saying you will get on top of your money issues when you get that big break? Are a lack of time and finances obstacles to your artistic success? Is your day job keeping you from putting time and energy into your artistic career? Do you wish you knew how to start taking control of your financial life? Would you like to be financially secure without feeling that you are "selling out" or giving up on your goals and dreams? Miata is an actress herself and she's designed her CD's and teleseminar programs to help artists of all kinds transform their lives - and enjoy abundance. So, do yourself a favor and take a moment to visit her site. http://www.abundancebound.com/teleseminarschedule.htm And when you sign up for the free teleseminar, be sure to let Miata know that I sent you, by using the drop down menu on the registration form. You'll see my name there, right after Backstage (I admit, I still get a kick out of seeing my name in 'print' - after all these years). Okay, have a splendid week and, as always ... Much Success, Bob P.S. I'm progressing slowly with An Actor Works - the series of video seminars I'm putting together for you. See, I didn't like the first 'takes' - so, I backed up a bit and am redoing some parts of the video - and re-editing . It should be available in early June (fingers crossed). You Must Act!
