Humorous Poetry
Issue # 52
August 30, 2003

Hi Friends,

Read the novels of this age,
The tales of cop and crook,
The crimes all seems so beastly,
Ferocious is our outlook.

All this 'civilized' violence
It keeps me on tenterhooks,
So, when I read any 'beast'ly tales
It's generally 'The Jungle Books.'

This week, poems/ballads from Kipling's
Jungle Books.

You wouldn't learn this in any School,
No, not even at Yale;
Here's a goodbye you never heard before,
Goodbye, with the shake of a tail !

Oscar Wilde was the master of the studied insult. His jabs
at hypocrisy, pretense, and boring conventionality still have
a penetrating power. His snubs and put-downs became the
talk of his time, no less by his targets than by Oscar Wilde
himself. This collection features over 750 biting comments...
