Humorous Poetry
Issue # 54
September 13, 2003

Hi Friends,

To be the Wz-ard of Humorous Quotes does pay,
Makes you stumble across geniuses like John Gay.

At his "The Beggar's Opera" let's take a peek,
And then from his Fables some wisdom seek ...

I stumbled across John Gay and his
"The Beggar's Opera" while putting together

and naturally, I couldn't resist digging deeper ;)

Excerpts from The Beggar's Opera
------------------------------------
(The piece on lawyers is titled A Soldier and A Sailor)

Oscar Wilde was the master of the studied insult. His jabs
at hypocrisy, pretense, and boring conventionality still have
a penetrating power. His snubs and put-downs became the
talk of his time, no less by his targets than by Oscar Wilde
himself. This collection features over 750 biting comments...
