Allah and Elohim - Are they the same God? Book

Editorial
By Sherly Isaac

We are almost at the end of this year 2006. I am sure when we are concluding this year, when we look back, several sweet as well as bitter memories come into our mind. Also we can count on God’s grace that sustained us in moments of struggles and trials, in times of sorrow and pain. He rejoiced with us when we were happy and blessed. In short He never left us nor forsook us. What a mighty and wonderful God is He who loves us and cares for us everyday.

At times life does not treat us fairly but we face troubles and troubles all over. Sometimes our life experience resembles what Joel talks about in Joel, 1:4, “What the chewing locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; What the swarming locust left, the crawling locust has eaten; And what the crawling locust left, the consuming locust has eaten.” And also in Joel 1:10-12, “The field is wasted, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine is dried up, The oil fails. Be ashamed, you farmers, Wail, you vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field has perished. The vine has dried up, and the fig tree has withered; The pomegranate tree, The palm tree also, And the apple tree; All the trees of the field are withered; Surely joy has withered away from the sons of men.”

Do you say that this is the story of yours? Do you say that joy has departed from your life? Do you say that you are at your wits end?

But today I want to tell you about a mighty God who can help you. He can restore to you everything that has been destroyed in your life. God says in Joel 2:24-26, “The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame.”

Bible talks about a man named Jabez. The name Jabez literally means “sorrow and trouble” Bible gives the reason why his mother gave this name to him as we see in 1 Chr 4:9, his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain." Not only was the meaning of his name ‘painful’ but it appears that his life was also mixed with pain. We do not know for how long he managed to drag on in pain and sorrow. But a day came in his life when he cried out to God asking for help. We read in 1 Chr 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested. And the 1 Chr 4:9 says, “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers…”

My dear friend, today you may be like Jabez in hurt year after year. The pain and the sorrow may be killing you. You may be having a wounded heart. But today give your heart to God. Give your pains, sorrow and tears to Him. 2000 years ago Jesus took all our sorrows and pain on Himself and died for us. “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed”(Isa 53:5).

Why carry those pains and sorrows with you when Jesus had already paid the price? Come to Him and just accept the free gift from Him – the forgiveness of sins and a joyful life.

2007 – A Year of New Beginning
By Sherly Isaac

In the Bible we read about Jacob and his son Joseph. Their’s is one of the most fascinating and emotional stories in the Bible. This is the story of a lost son for whom his father mourns and mourns and refuses to be comforted. When Jacob’s other sons presented and asked him to recognize the torn and supposedly blood soaked tunic of Joseph, Jacob had no doubt that his son was torn down by a wild beast. Bible says in Gen 37:33, “And he recognized it and said, "It is my son's tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces."

You can see the picture of a desperate father who immediately lost all his hopes. Gen 37:34-35 says, ‘Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days. And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said, "For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning." Thus his father wept for him…’

Too much and exceedingly great was Jacob’s sorrow. Year after year he would have wept thinking about the tragic death of his beloved son. On the other side Joseph was in pain too. As a slave there was no hope for him to meet his family again. Not only that, he was put in prison and that ended even his little bit of hope of meeting his family. But that was not the end of the world for him or for Jacob. A new day came in his life when he was removed from the dungeon and brought straight before the King. From that day his life and destiny changed forever. He became the second most powerful person in the land of Egypt. When he settled down in his life, he called the name of his firstborn son Manasseh: "For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house." And his second son Ephraim meaning: "For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction” (Gen 41:51-52).

Further God allowed Jacob to meet Joseph which seemed to be completely impossible and yet it became possible by the mighty power of God. A new day came in the life of Jacob when he beheld with his own eyes that Joseph was still alive and well and in a very big position in Egypt. A new day came in his life when he hugged Joseph and shed tears of joy.

The years of hopelessness, the years of tears and sorrow, the years of pain left them. Both rejoiced for the goodness of God. My dear friend, today you may be shedding bitter tears because of heavy loss in your life, family or business. But the Lord God almighty says, Rev 21:5, "Behold, I make all things new."

I believe that the year 2007 will bring new beginning in our lives. The almighty God Himself will roll away the condition of torn down life, the life of hurt and pain, the life of sorrow and tears. The years of sorrow and pain would be forgotten because of the blessings that He is about to pour in the lives of His children.

Are you his child? If not invite Him in your life and become one today. Please pray this prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive and forget all my sins. Wash me with your precious blood so that I could be clean. Today, I accept you as my Lord and Savior, come into my life and fill me with everlasting joy. Thank you Lord for making me your child and including me in your family. I give you all the glory. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 9th Jan. 2007

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 9th Jan. 2007
