Who Am I?
By Sherly Isaac
I was recently reflecting on my life, “Who am I?” and my memory goes back to my early days. My parents are from south India from the state of Kerala. The state consists of beautiful, lush green landscape having mountains on one side beautiful beaches on the other side with rows and rows of coconut and palm trees, evergreen forests, yucca and paddy fields. It is a so beautiful land that some call it “God’s own land”. Both of my grandfathers were in high-ranking jobs and thus they were rich and were respected in town. Though I was born in Trivandrum, Kerala, I was raised in northern parts of India. Only occasionally we went to our grand parents house. As the train passes from one state to another from north India to South, you can see a drastic difference
in sceneries, climate and vegetations. Everything looks completely different, even language, dress, food and culture.
Every morning fisherwoman would come with her big baskets, full of different kinds of fish. All the children would gather around her, as grandma would purchase fishes for lunch and dinner. But in the parts of North India where we lived, we could hardly find fishes or seafood. Even I had very little contact with the people of Kerala. The general opinion about Keralites is that they are very simple, hardworking and intelligent people. Many work in foreign countries and because of it wealth is flowing in that land. How proud I felt knowing that Kerala was the first 100% literate state in India.
So I came from this rich background. My parents were very religious.
They never failed to attend Church services and sending us in Sunday school as well. Our home was always open for prayer meetings. Many good preachers came to our home and conducted regular prayer meetings. But as I was growing many things bothered me. There was no peace in our home and I was not good in my studies. Obviously my parents were very much worried about my future thinking what I am going to make out of my life? I was tired of my failures. No matter how I worked hard yet I faced defeat in my life. There was no hope for me and for my future.
In those desperate moments I gave my life to Jesus. God started changing my life and my surroundings. My failures turned into success. He blessed me beyond measure. Today whatever I am, only because of Him and His great love
that He showed in my life. He gave His life for us. He loved us with everlasting love.
My heart was filled with gratitude toward God and His Love. With tears in my eyes, I asked, "Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?”
David asked the same question in 2 Sam 7:18, “Then King David went in and sat before the LORD; and he said: "Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?”
It is not our goodness or worth that God looks in us but He looks in the hearts of people. What good is in us? Nothing!! Psalmist says in Psalm 14:3, “They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.” Bible also says in Rom
3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
But if we repent from our sins, He is ready to forgive our sins and to take us in. Bible says in 1 John 1:8-9, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
From outside everything may look good but it is possible that you could be completely broken inside and may be have no hope at all. Come to Jesus, He can help you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 13th Feb. 2007
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
