A Slave Does Not Abide Forever
By Sheela Isaac
John 8:34 -35, Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever."
Jesus said, 'whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.' How true it is, sin is an addiction and sin destroys. One sin leads to another sin and a person keeps on committing sin unless somebody rescues him/her. If you smoke, you are a slave of smoking. If you drink, you are a slave of drinking. If you steal, you are a slave of robbery. If you tell lies, you are a slave of lies. If you watch filth in TV, internet or read filthy stuff in books you are a slave of that sin. What is addiction? When you start doing something and could not pull yourself
out of the trap, it is addiction. You know that if you are drinking tea or coffee regularly in the morning you become addicted to it. Every morning when you wake up, the first thing you will be looking for is tea or coffee and you would not feel good until you have a cup of tea. So we can say easily that I am a slave of tea or coffee. That's how slavery begins.
Couple of days back my family and I visited a home. As we were getting down from our car I heard somebody talking loudly. It was a dark and very chilly evening. I looked around and found that a girl was standing at her front porch and talking on cell phone. I did not pay much attention to it, but we entered the house we were visiting. After a few minutes when we were leaving we came out and again I heard the same loud
noise. I thought in my heart with much surprise why she is still out there in the night and talking over phone. Why she could not sit inside her house since it was bone chilling cold and it was dark and no one was around there. Then I looked at her and found out that she was smoking cigarette that's why she was standing at her front porch. I told my family, "how funny it is that she wants to smoke any how that she was out there in cold wintry night." You know in US our houses are made air tight due to harsh winter and whatever you cook the smell stays inside the house for hours together if you don't vent it. May be that's why she was not able to smoke inside her house, but see how addictive it was that she did not bother to stand out there in dark and in bone chilling cold because she
wanted to smoke anyway. That's what addiction and sin does to one. Sin is so addictive it would make you commit sin anyway if you are not willing to clean up your life.
Few weeks back I read about a heart rending story. A promising south Indian businessman lived in North India. He had wife and children. The news was that one day in the morning suddenly doorbell rang and when he opened the door somebody attacked him and killed him. When I read about this news I felt very sorry about his wife and children. Many thoughts crossed my mind thinking about the horrible condition of his young wife and kids. Well after few weeks later another newspaper came and it had very startling information about this case. The killer was none other than his own wife. She was a nurse in some hospital.
She had an affair with somebody and that's why she wanted to get rid of her husband. The news report said, first she gave poison to him in his food but he threw up and did not die so later her said lover came and killed him. How pathetic the story was. Police caught them after hearing their long phone conversation records.
That's where sin leads one. What if they both decided not to get into sin the outcome would then have been different. What if the woman might have thought, "I am a married woman how could I cheat my husband and it is not right in the sight of God" the outcome would have been different. What if the man who was an outsider had thought, "the love affair with somebody else's wife is sin;" definitely the outcome might have been different. But see one sin had lead
both to prison for the rest of their lives.
You might think, "well it is a rare incidence and it does not happen to everybody." Well the Bible says that the wages of sin is death. Rom 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Sin leads to death and destruction. You might not have committed any grievous sin, but do you know that even a small sin can lead you into hell fire? If you commit sin, you will become a slave of sin and it is pretty hard to get rid of that sin. You can't get rid of your sin by your own efforts or ability. That's why Jesus came into this world to rescue us from sin. Only Jesus can rescue us from sin. Only Jesus can deliver us from sin and sinful desires. You might say that
there are hundreds of religions and gods, then why Jesus only? What makes you think that only through Jesus you can reach heaven, why not others. When I got saved and after that also these thoughts crossed my mind. Since I did not want to believe in something blindly I thought about other possibilities and did research on other religions too and found out that only Jesus is capable to save us from sin.
If you look at the religion of Buddhism you will find out that the founder of Buddhism was not sure about his destiny. Buddha was not sure what happens after death and where people goes after death. He himself was looking for answers and he was not all knowing that itself clears that he was not god. If you look at Hinduism you will find some startling truths, which clears that Hindu
gods are not god. Look at the life of Krishna. His life was not holy. He stole butter as any ordinary humans. He told lies as any ordinary humans and on top of it he was stealing the cloths of bathing women and peeking at them. Don't look decent act right? He was battling with his own life to make it clean so how can he be able to clean others' life? It is not possible? Look at the life of Hindu god Rama he had serious doubts about the purity of his wife Sita when king Ravana kidnapped her. So he abandoned her in jungle. The incidence clears that Rama was not all knowing that's why he doubted his own wife and he can't be god. If you look at the life of Brahma the other Hindu god the hindu scriptures tell that he was not able to control his lust that's why he marries his own daughter
Saraswati. None of them were free from sin and so they can't be god. If you look at the religion of Islam the same thing is repeating there. Mohammad the founder of Islam was not sinless. Hadith says that Mohammed is not in heaven right now but he is waiting for the 'Day of Judgment' to go into heaven. Hadith says, Allah had promised hell fire and torture for his followers.
What about Jesus? How was His life?
Jesus was sinless and He conquered sin:
Bible says that He (Jesus) was sinless who committed NO SIN and deceit was not found in His mouth.
Peter 2:21-23, "For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth";
who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten,.."
Nothing could make Him fall in sin. Jesus never committed any sin and He is able to pull us out from our sins.
Jesus conquered Death:
He died on the cross but rose again on the third day and defeated death and He is alive forevermore. Jesus conquered death and He will conquer death for you. He will resurrect your mortal bodies and give you eternal life. 1 Th 4:13 -14, "But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus."
Please read
marvelous qualities of Jesus and you will know that Jesus has all the qualities, which God should have.
Jesus is God and He is the creator of us all and only Jesus can save us from hell fire. Only Jesus, who could conquer sin and death, is able to deliver us from sin and from eternal death. That's why Jesus said that who commits sin is a slave of sin and that a slave does not abide forever but son does. If you are in sin you can't abide in God's presence. If you are living in sin you can't reach heaven because you are a slave of sin. God of the Bible is not coming to take slaves in His kingdom but He is coming to take His bride. How should the bride of Christ be? Bible says that He is coming for holy and spotless bride who
is without blemish or wrinkles. He is definitely not coming to collect slaves. Are you living in sin today? Are you sinking deep in various sins? Are you saying, 'I tried everything but nothing worked and I am not able to come out of sin.'? Well that's why Jesus died on the cross to deliver you and rescue you from the clutches of sin. Getting rid of sin is pretty easy. For that you just need to surrender your life into the hands of Jesus. Give Him full control of your life. Give your life into the safe hands of Jesus and ask Him to come into your life. If you are willing to invite Him into your life please pray this prayer from the bottom of your heart.
Lord Jesus, I know that you are the savior of this world. I believe that you died for my sins. Please forgive and forget my
sin and come into my heart. Wash away all my sins in your precious blood and cleanse me Lord. Make me your child and give me a place in heaven. Lord you said that a slave does not abide forever but son does. Make me today your child so that I can abide in your kingdom. Today I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Today I handover my life into your safe hands Jesus. Thank you for listening to this prayer. Thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you Jesus for coming into my heart. I pray in Jesus name. Amen
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 13th May. 2008
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 13th May. 2008
