Are you looking for some advice about how to write a successful article? Have you a lack of belief in your ability to write an interesting article? Around a year ago I would have answered yes to all of these three questions but have now learnt quite a lot about article marketing. In this article, I give tips and advice to help other people to become successful article marketers. I have now had around three hundred articles accepted at what I consider to be one of the main article directories, ezinearticles. At times, I have to admit that it can be quite a choir to think of a subject to write about, to then write the article and also to then submit the article to all of the major article directories. At other times, the words seem to just flow and it can be quite easy and even enjoyable. The benefits of article marketing can be huge and I am happy to report that a lot of my articles have been included on many different websites, this of course creates a lot of important one- way backward links to my websites. I have seen a large increase of traffic to my sites, which is partly no doubt down to this writing of articles. As a rule I try to write around seven to ten articles per week. If on one particular week I am not able to for whatever reason, I do not stress about it, I just see it as a break. I try to make each article interesting and they are written from the heart, in my own style. Some of them can be quite funny, for example, I have written an article about dieting which has the title of, Have You Ever Seen A Fat Postman? I try not to make each article too long as people may become bored half way through. At the same time I believe each article should not be too short as there is likely to be little value to the reader. My articles are normally anywhere between four and seven hundred words in length. Most of my articles will give the reader some form of advice about the subject I am writing about. This advice of course, is my own personal opinion and comes from my own personal experiences. I have received many e-mails from people who have enjoyed reading my articles and I have also had requests from other people who have asked if I would be willing to write articles for them. I am sure if I can write a number of articles that everyone else can. Give it a go, you might surprise yourself. Once you have written the article, you then need to submit it to some of the article directories. In my opinion these are the best, ezinearticles, articledashboard, goarticles, articlealley and searchwarp. Great selection of Pictures. Expose Your Web Site By Sherry Holub At one point in time, "SEO" (aka Search Engine Optimization) was something everyone wanted to do, no matter what the price. Lots of companies made tons of money optimizing sites with keywords and other "tactics" to get higher rankings in search engines. Over the years this has changed - for the better, actually. The "top dog" in the search engine world is Google. The top in the directory world is Yahoo. So, most people try to cater to those two companies. There are some notable others, such as MSN. The one thing that hasn't changed is the enormous competition to try to get your virtual foot in the door with these engines and directories. Take a market like ours for instance (Web Design and Graphic Design). By some miracle we were able to get in the regional directory at Yahoo, but it was very hard to get anywhere else because the market was so saturated. We were using keywords (phrases, really) such as "find affordable web design". Oddly enough, we made it into Google's #1 slot (sometimes we're in the top 5) with "high end web design". We also have a Google Adwords campaign where we try to target certain markets (for instance, we've done ones like, "web design for musicians" and "corporate web design"). Now, optimizing ONLY for "keywords" is becoming more and more obsolete. For instance, Google is not interested in keywords in special code tags ( tags) on your webpage. What they are interested in the most is: content - and good content (content that a human being would want to read, not a search engine robot), frequently updated content, and "trusted" links (any links coming in to your site - for instance, sites you have traded links with - from sites that follow all the Google rules). So how do key words still come into play? Well, it's always a good idea to put a keyword or two in the Title area of each web page (what is seen at the very top of your browser window). You can also integrate keywords into the description code tag on your website. And of course, you can use a keyword here and there in your page content (IF it makes sense and does not compromise the quality of your text). Still, just adding these things on to your web pages do not automatically mean search engines will find you. You would still need to submit your site (with Google, you can do that here: http://www.google.com/addurl/). But what we have found that is even more important than simply submitting your site to search engines is getting inbound links to your site and in turn getting more recognition from engines like Google. To get more exposure, try checking our Google's AdWords program or Yahoo's Sponsored Ads (http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch/intro101.php). It also can't hurt to submit your site to relevant directories (you can usually do an internet search for something like "(your business type) directories" and pull up some useful listings). One way to get inbound links and keep your content fresh and informative is to have what's called a Blog (short for web log). You can view our blog here to get an idea of the kind of things that are posted: http://www.jvmediadesign.com/blog/ Basically, you try to target your market with relative content. Either write about things you think your customers would be interested in, or pull content you think they would be interested in from sites such as http://www.ezinearticles.com. There is one more important step you would need to take with the blog and that is what is called "pinging". Without going into a lengthy explanation here, I've written another article on what a blog is and what to do with that can be read here: http://www.jvmediadesign.com/blog/blog.php?id=38 And if you do end up writing something on your blog, you might as well submit that article to some of those content sites like ezinearticles.com or http://www.goarticles.com. If you do, make sure to put your website link in your author bio or at the bottom of the article - that way, anyone that uses the article on their website will also be putting an automatic link to your site. When we first started our blog we were a little skeptical but kept at it and within a month we were showing up more in Google and Yahoo. I hope this info is helpful and that you now have the knowledge of several viable ways to get more exposure for your website. Sherry Holub received her degree in design from UCLA in 1995. You select what is best according to your book and theme and consider what to include in order to attract your readers. Most of all you want to include features on your site that will entice your visitors to return. Now that you figured what you need it’s time to start driving traffic to your site. How do you do it? I’m not going to go technical here about search engines or optimization. I want to be clear and simple. The first thing is to include your website address on your business cards, promotional materials, email signature And any other inexpensive communication means you use. While looking online to connect with your audience you sign up in groups, forums and websites. It doesn’t do any good to have your book listed everywhere and yet nobody knows where to find you. I usually include the groups or sites where my book appears. If there is a community on the sites I sign up with, I try to make time to stop by regularly and see if someone has any comments, questions or have visited my book listing. Some sites provide you with an author page in which you can offer links to your book and site and also write a blog or submit articles or short stories. The more you offer your potential readers the better. We are used to network in person and you probably know how to make calls or go around town and introduce yourself. It is the same thing online. I think that online you have to do it even more in order to get attention because the competition is greater since it is worldwide. Only those who are constantly posting, talking, interviewing, submitting and answering blog entries and emails are the ones who the readers are going to visit more. Nobody wants a static page in which when they come to visit there is no way to contact you, order or interact somehow. Today people are practically living online but if you don’t show up they’ll go somewhere else. So think about it and decide how and where you’ll spend your time to promote your book and support the sites that are helping you promote your book by linking back to them, writing about their services on your blog or site and in that way more people will know the places to find you. Do a search on the major search engines under your name and book and find out who is linking to your site or article and visit them, comment on their blogs and offer to answer questions. Go ahead, and start driving traffic to your site today and don’t stop until you end up on the top!
