 From My Desk

 ******************************************************

Welcome to another issue of BookPromo Guerrilla Style,
I hope the information provided here is helping you
by giving you not only information but ideas to better
 market your books.

I am an author and my philosophy in writing is  to not
overwhelm my daily life to the extent that I lose
focus of what my goals are.  I've added a few more
goals to my list in the last few months and that calls for
 a rearrangement of my life.

Perhaps you too have experienced some changes in your life
as you became a published author and encountered additional
responsabilities with the promotion of your book.  I guess this
is something none of us is ready for.  A basic background on
business management and  time management won't hurt anybody.
You don't need to go  back to college to obtain this knowledge,
there are a lot of good books that treat the subjects
extensively.  My favorites are Brian Tracey, Zig Ziglar,
Stephen R. Covey, Napoleon Hill and John C. Maxwell.

I guess the main thing to keep in mind is the need for a
a plan, not only while you are writing your book but a marketing
plan to promote the book.  Who is your audience,
where are they, where do they go (on and offline)?  Here is an
examples of promotion you can do: fundraising events, book signings,
website, blog, business cards, bookmarks, contests, talks, workshops etc.
Now days even the publishing houses expect you to do your own promotion, you
 can't avoid it.

At Guerrilla Marketers' Cafe we offer the information we have
accumulated dealing with authors around the country.  You get
access to the information via forums, blog, interviews, links,
and this eZine among other things.  There is a lot more in stored
for this site that keeps expanding as our knowledge of the field
increases and as we learn to implement new technology in our book
 promotion efforts.

I want to invite you to stop by the site at least weekly so that
you can contribute on the forum, go through our blog entries and
partake of the tools available to you to help you on your journey
 towards success.

Looking forward to help, inform and empower authors.

 Best Regards,

Top Three Mistakes Rookie Authors Make in Marketing Books
on Their Web Site
********************************************************

By Steve Weber

Today every author knows they must have a Web site to help
sell their book. But most new authors make three dumb mistakes
while trying to market their book on their site.

Insisting the customer buy on your Web site.

Most authors try to sell directly to the buyer on their Web site,
figuring they will reap the full list price of the book. That's
fine -- IF if it's fine with the buyer. But most would rather buy
from an online store they've heard of, not an individual. So if you
want to sell your book effectively, offer more options.

How? Offer an affiliate link to your book's product page on Amazon or
Barnes & Noble. If you're a self-publishing author and set a short
discount (say 25 percent), you can earn the same money by letting Amazon
sell your book, plus you don't have to fill the orders.

You can reap some additional rewards through affiliate sales. I earn
about $15 a day in additional Amazon affiliate commissions from folks
who followed my site's affiliate link to Amazon and decided to purchase
additional items in the same order. So in those cases, I earn a lot more
money than I would have earned by selling the book on my own Web site,
plus I don't have to handle the customer.

Static Web sites.

Unchanging Web sites are another boneheaded practice employed by most authors.
I've had a lot of success promoting my book through my blog, and it's easier
than maintaining a regular site of static pages. (It's also easier than trying
to sell books using Google Adwords, and cheaper.)

Offering no content.

Authors can improve their Internet marketing efforts tremendously simply by adding
a bit of free content. Offer your first chapter, table of contents, and index in a
free PDF that visitors can download from your site. It's a no-brainer -- if you're
trying to sell a book outside a brick-and-mortar bookstore, the buyer has to have a
sense of what they're buying. I know I get a tremendous amount of buzz and sales
from that (I offer my first three chapters).

Many authors are leery of offering a free PDF of their first chapter online.
"My goodness," they say, "What would happen if people forwarded the chapter all over
the place?"

What would happen is that you'd get a bazillion dollars' worth of free advertising,
and the sales of your book would get a serious shot in the arm!

I wrote about this Yahoo! service in Guerrilla Insight
this week ( http://guerrilla.clarylopez.com/blog ) but just
in case you missed it, here it is.

Yahoo! Answers is a way to share your knowledge with others.
It's a great place to have your questions answered but I see
the potential as something that can potentially create awareness
for you and your books.

Go to the area of your expertise and start helping others by
answering their questions.  While you are there you can sign up
for a free 360 degree site that you can direct people to or just
add you website link in the source area when you post your answers.
Either way the community will get to know you and if you do a good
enough work they'll go visit your site.

There is also a Yahoo! Answer in Spanish for America and Spain.
Here are the links:

Learning to Blog - Part V by Clary Lopez

********************************************************

How well have you done so far with your blog?  Did you
managed to find the theme, find other blogs related to
yours and comment on them and drive some traffic to it
in the process?  I hope so.  This is a new medium and
one that is going to continue to grow.  If we learn what
makes it work we can have a way of communication that will
include trust and familiarity among people.

Once you have a few posts, I would say about ten or so you
would want to be listed in some blog searching engines like
Technorati.  Here is a link to a complete list on Google:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGGL_enUS175&q=blog+search+engines

Please make sure that when you set up your blog on the
settings, you allow for comments to be posted.  This is the
way communication opens up.  Some people like to leave opened
ended and others like to approve the comments before they are
posted.  For the time being you might want to leave it open and
see what happens, if you see some abuse or spamming going
on then you might want to change the settings to gain control.

If you have created your blog and would like to let the
BookPromo eZine subscriber see it, send me an email with
the link and I'll be glad to include in our next issue.
Our subscriber number is growing and it will be a great
way to get the word out free.

We'll continue with more information in the next BookPromo Guerrilla
Ezine edition.  If you would like to share your experience so far
with your blog, go ahead and email me.  I'll be glad to include some
of your comments here. I'll welcome your questions as well, email them
to me at:

I'll try to answer as many questions as I can.
