Add potatoes, and cook until tender but still firm, about 10 minutes. Drain, and place in a large bowl. Combine potatoes with butter, milk, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Mash together until smooth and creamy. ***************************************** *Cranberry Sauce Ingredients 1/2 pound fresh cranberries 1 cup white sugar 1/2 cup water Directions In a microwave safe bowl, mix together cranberries, sugar and water. Cover the mixture with wax paper and microwave on high power until the cranberries pop (about 7 minutes). Chill before serving ***************************************** *Candied Sweet Potatoes Ingredients 4 pounds sweet potatoes, quartered 1 1/4 cups margarine 1 1/4 cups brown sugar 3 cups miniature marshmallows, divided ground cinnamon to taste ground nutmeg to taste Directions Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add potatoes and boil until slightly underdone, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and peel. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine margarine, brown sugar, 2 cups marshmallows, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook, stirring occasionally, until marshmallows are melted. Stir potatoes into marshmallow sauce. While stirring mash about half of the potatoes, and break the others into bite-sized chunks. Transfer to prepared dish. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cover top evenly with remaining marshmallows. Return to oven and bake until marshmallows are golden brown. ***************************************** *Basic Yankee Bread Stuffing Bread, pork and seasonings blend to create a perfect filling for the holiday bird. Use more bread if needed to create a stuffing that's moist, but not mushy Ingredients 1 pound ground pork sausage 1 tablespoon butter 6 stalks chopped celery 2 onions, chopped 2 (1 pound) loaves day-old white bread, torn into small pieces 1 1/2 teaspoons sage seasoning mixture salt and pepper to taste 2 eggs 1 cup chicken broth Directions Place pork sausage in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and set aside. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Place the celery and onions in the saucepan, and slowly cook and stir until tender. In a large bowl, place the sausage, celery, onions, bread, sage, salt and pepper. Beat the eggs in small bowl and mix into the sausage mixture. Pour broth into the mixture. Use more broth if needed. The stuffing should be moist, not mushy. ***************************************** *Cindy's Pumpkin Pie Ingredients 1 1/2 pints vanilla ice cream, softened 3 eggs 1 3/4 cups pumpkin puree 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells Directions Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C.) Place ice cream near the warm oven to soften. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs. Stir in the pumpkin puree, sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Mix in soft ice cream until smooth. Pour filling into two 9 inch pie shells. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake an additional 30 to 40 minutes, or until filling is set. Allow it to dry, then polish with a soft cloth. Got a mark on your bath (ceramic or plastic), try putting a small lump of toothpaste on to your finger and rubbing the mark gently with it. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. You will be amazed as to what you can clean up with a bit of toothpaste. If an aluminium pan has become discolored, boil some apple peel in it for a few minutes, then rinse and dry. Keep your fingernails clean while doing a dirty job by first running them all across a bar of soap so there is a scraping beneath each of your nails. Crushed egg shells and water make an excellent scourer for vases. After you've dyed a pair of shoes, give the heels a coat of clear nail varnish. It prevents the new color scraping off. Avoid splashing curtains when washing the windows by folding them on a coat hanger and hanging it from the pole or runner. Prevent streaks when cleaning glass surfaces by using scrunched up newspaper for the final wipe. Use a little fabric conditioner in warm water to clean glass topped tables, TV screens or stereo lids, then rub dry. This prevents dust settling on the surface. Reduce condensation in the bathroom by running cold water into the bath first "How do I get the black film off of the inside of my new white coffee pot?" Try putting some ice cubes inside the pot and swish them around with a little bit of salt. Soak it in Chlorine Bleach and rinse well before using again. Most grocery stores have a product called Dip-It, it is made just for cleaning coffee pots and thermoses. Assuming the stains are coffee, try filling the pot with about 2 Tbs of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) dissolved in hot water. (We used this to get the coffee stains out of my dad's thermos bottle.) Another tip I think I read somewhere was to dissolve denture cleaning tablets (the fizzy ones) in the pot filled with hot water. Put ice and about 1/4 cup salt in it and swirl till the black comes off. From my old waitress days! To clean a coffee pot or tea pot,I simply put them in my dishwasher and they come out sparkling clean. If you don't want to use a dishwasher, fill pot with javex, let sit for a few minutes and wash. (be sure to rinse well. ********** To get rid of car oil stains on your driveway or in your garage, spray with oven cleaning foam. Leave for 5 minutes, then wash down with water and a brush and the stain will vanish. Salt will remove burnt marks from the edges of pie dishes, stains from china and earthenware, and egg stains from cutlery.
