*Feel good. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, with a bit of honey added for flavor, will take the edge off your appetite and give you an overall healthy feeling.

*Relieve sunburn. Lightly rub white or cider vinegar on skin. May have to reapply.

*Remove splinters. Reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off.

*Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

*Treat sinus infections and chest colds. Add 1/4 cup or more vinegar to the vaporizer.

*Fight dandruff. After shampooing, rinse with a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 cups of warm water.

*To get rid of itch from mosquito bit: try applying soap on the area for instant relief. *Soothe a bee or jellyfish sting. Douse with vinegar. Will soothe irritation and relieve itching.

*Soothe a soar throat. Put a teaspoon of vinegar in a glass of water. Gargle, then swallow.

*Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The Throbbing will go away.

*Relieve dry and itchy skin. Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to your bath water.

*Conditioner hair. Add a tablespoon of vinegar to your rinse to dissolve sticky residue left by shampoo.

*Clear up warts. Apply a lotion of half cider vinegar and half glycerin. *Temporarily relieve congestion due to a head cold. Bring a pot of white vinegar to a boil. Turn off the stove and let the aroma waft through the house. Save the vinegar and boil again if needed.

*To eliminate the painful experience of removing a plastic bandage from a child's skin, saturate a cotton ball with baby oil and rub it gently over the bandage. The bandage will now (painlessly) lift off the child's skin.

*Take grease off suede. Dip a toothbrush in vinegar and gently brush over grease spot.

*Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little peroxide on a *cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!

*Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

*Remove tough stains. Gently rub vinegar on fruit, jam, mustard, coffee, and tea. Then wash as usual.

*Brighten fabric colors. Add a 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle.

*Keep colors from running. Immerse clothes in full strength vinegar before washing.

*Get rid of lint in clothes. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle.

*Freshen up the washing machine. Periodically, pour a cup of vinegar in the machine and let in run through a regular cycle (no clothes added). Will dissolve soap residue.

*Get smoke smell out of clothes. Add a cup of vinegar to a bath tub of hot water. Hang clothes above the steam.

*Neutralize garden lime. Rinse your hands liberally with vinegar after working with garden lime to avoid rough and flaking skin.

*Power up the propane. Soak new propane lantern wicks in vinegar for several hours. Let dry before using. Will burn longer and brighter.

*Increase soil acidity. In hard water areas, add a cup of vinegar to a gallon of tap water for watering acid loving plants like rhododendrons, gardenias, or azaleas. The vinegar will release iron in the soil for the plants to use.

*Deter ants. Spray vinegar around door and window frames, under appliances, and along other known ant trails.

*Kill weeds. Spray full strength vinegar on tops of weeds. Reapply on any new growth until the plants have starved.

*Kill grass on walks and driveways. Pour full strength vinegar on unwanted grass. *Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hairspray and they will take a quick dive.

*Keep car windows frost free. Coat the windows the night before with a solution of three parts vinegar to one part water.

*Polish car chrome. Apply full strength vinegar with a soft cloth.

*Dissolve rust from bolts and other metals. Soak in full strength vinegar *Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least three fours prior to burning.

*To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

*Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hairspray and they will take a quick dive.

*Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.

*Use empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

*For icy doorsteps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.

*Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is)!

*Vacuum your hardwood, tile or linoleum floors and scrub them less often. The new "Swifters" clean floors quickly and effortlessly too.

*Love to have a fire in your fireplace but hate to clean out the ashes? Spread a wide sheet of aluminum foil underneath the grates in the fireplace. The foil will catch all the ashes. When the fire has burned out and cooled, fold the foil up around the ashes and remove them to your garden for recycling.

*Clean a vase: to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets

*Unclog steam iron. Pour equal amounts of vinegar and water into the iron's water chamber. Turn to steam and leave the iron on for 5 minutes in an upright position. Then unplug and allow to cool. Any loose particles should come out when you empty the water.

*Ants, ants, ants everywhere...Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march.

*Remove decals. Brush with a couple coats of vinegar. Allow to soak in. Wash off.

*Freshen cut flowers. Add 2 tablespoons vinegar and 1 teaspoon sugar for each quart of water.

*Polish jewelry: drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

*Clean eyeglasses. Wipe each lens with a drop of vinegar. *The next time you run out of hair gel or mousse, use a small amount of shaving cream (NOT shaving gel) as an emergency alternative.

*To revive a dried out stamp pad until you can buy a new one, put enough food coloring on the pad until it is fully saturated.

*To remove old self stick shelf paper quickly and easily, simply run a warm iron over the paper and it will peel right off.

*To make an accurate grocery list, keep it on the refrigerator door and jot down what you need as you run out.

*Tired of lugging multiple laundry hampers down the stairs on laundry day? Not only is this fatiguing, it's an accident waiting to happen. Try this instead: Use some type of liner in your hamper such as a large plastic or cloth bag, or a mesh laundry bag with a drawstring at the top. When it's time to haul dirty laundry, close the bag and toss it down the steps. Empty it in your laundry room then return the liners to their (stationary) hampers. Once your kids witness you as do this, they might even offer to take over the job!

*When running errands, make a list of all the stops you need to make, then start with the one farthest away. This way, if you don't complete your list, you can always squeeze in the "close to home" stops on another day

*Use clothespins to re-close plastic food packages such as cereal bags, snack bags, cracker packages, etc. Children can manage clothespins more easily than zip-top bags, twist ties, or rubber bands. If you have wire shelving in your pantry, clip clothespins to the shelves so they're always handy. You can buy wooden clothes pins at hardware and discount stores; 50 sell for about $2.

*Keep sponges fresh and germ resistant.. Put them in them through the dishwasher on the top rack, let run the cycle then microwave for one minute.

*If you have a hard time visualizing what those small paint chips at the store will look like on your wall, here's an idea!

*Buy a small amount of the paint (such as a pint or quart) and paint a posterboard! The painted board is large enough to tape up on a wall to give you a good idea of how it will look. You can move the board from wall to wall to see how various lighting conditions will affect the color of paint you have chosen. This is a much better alternative than painting the entire room only to find you can't live with the color. ****************************************

Preserving Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds and Popcorn Both sunflower and pumpkin seeds can be roasted and make a fun snack. Separate the fiber from the pumpkin seed and place the seeds in a colander and rinse thoroughly with water. Place the seeds, either sunflower or pumpkin, in a saucepan and cover with salted water using 1/4 cup salt to 2 quarts water. Bring the seeds to a boil and simmer about 2 hours. Drain the seeds and dry them on absorbent paper. To roast, place seeds in a shallow pan in a 300 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Stir occasionally. Remove the seeds from the oven and add one teaspoon of melted butter or margarine to each cup of seeds. Salt to taste. When cool, store in an airtight container. If they will be stored longer than 10 to 14 days, place in the freezer. Salt may be omitted in the cooking water and other seasonings can be used. Simply sprinkle the cooked, drained seeds with onion or garlic salt before roasting. Hulled seeds may be mixed with vegetable oil (two teaspoons oil to each cup of seeds) and seasonings and then roasted. Place in a 300 degree oven for five to ten minutes. Store popcorn in airtight containers in the refrigerator, or better yet, in the freezer. At 40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerator temperature), the popping volume begins to decrease after about 30 months of storage. THANKS SAHM35 ****************************************

Healthy Snacks For Everyone*

* Yummy, no-cook snacks. They're easy and fun to make.

*Banana Pops. Peel a banana. Dip it in yogurt, then roll in crushed breakfast cereal, and freeze.

*Peanut Butter Balls. Mix peanut butter and bran or corn flakes in a bowl. Shape them into balls with clean hands. Then roll them in crushed graham crackers.

*Snack Kebobs. Cut raw vegetables or fruit into chunks. Skewer them onto thin pretzel sticks.

*Veggies with Dip. Cut celery, zucchini, cucumbers or carrots into sticks or coins. Then dip them into prepared salsa or lowfat dip.

*Fruit Shake-Ups. Put 1/2 cup lowfat fruit yogurt and 1/2 cup cold fruit juice in a non-breakable, covered container. Make sure the lid is tight. Then shake it up, and pour into a cup.

*Pudding Shakes. Use the same technique for making fruit shake-ups, but instead mix 1/2 cup cold milk with 3 tablespoons of instant pudding.

*Ice Cream-Wiches. Put a small scoop of ice cream or frozen yogurt between two oatmeal cookies. Make a batch of these sandwiches ahead, and freeze them.

*Ants on a Log. Fill celery with peanut butter or cream cheese. Arrange raisins along the top. ******************************************

Art Smith"s Peach Pineapple Smoothie

1 1/4 cup sparkling water, unfiltered apple juice or low-fat milk

1 cup Sliced Peaches in 100% Juice

1 container (8 oz.) Fruit Naturals Pineapple Chunks, drained

1 cup diced onion

2 ribs chopped celery

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup olive oil

3 cups long-grain white rice

1 can (14-1/2 oz.) Chicken Broth 

4 cups water

1 can (8 oz.) Tomato Sauce

1 tsp. ground cumin, optional

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper

1/4 tsp. saffron, optional

Cook onion, celery and garlic in oil in large saucepan. Add rice; cook 3 more minutes. Add broth, water, tomato sauce, cumin, salt, pepper and saffron. Cover; bring to boil. Reduce heat.
