Subject: No Minister - February22, 2006

No Minister

A minister was called to a small town in northern Minnesota. It was notoriously known among the clergy that no one ever lasted more than one year there. Our minister was in need of a respite, and accepted the call, taking with him all the books he'd been too busy to read in previous ministries. He did his stint for a year, enjoyed a leisurely ministry, but at the end of that year, he packed up his belongings, ready to move on. In the midst of his packing, the pulpit committee came to see him.

"Preacher," they said, "we want you to stay." He was struck dumb, just started unpacking his stuff, nodding.

The next day on his way to the post office he ran into one of the committee members and said, "I couldn't even speak yesterday when you boys came to see me. I was stunned! This town never keeps a minister longer than one year. Why now?"

The committeeman smiled and shook his hand. "Well, what this town really wants is no minister at all - and you've come closest!"

P.S.

You might be able to help me. Certainly you probably know someone who can.

We have been praying about our situation for a period of time. Here is what our prayers have led.

The year 2006 will bring many changes for the Oak Tree church of  Christ here in Rochester, MN. This last week we told them we plan to move. It will mean major changes for my family (moving closer to parents and both of our children will be students at Oklahoma Christian) and my ministry (looking for a new job in ministry) after spending 25 years in church planting in the Northern USA.

I am beginning the search for a new ministry job closer to my family in Oklahoma. If you hear of preaching or ministry jobs, please tell others about us and please let me know so I can follow-up on those. We hope to be within one day's drive of Oklahoma. I can send my resume to those who are interested.

This time of year people will be going to lectureships, seminars, etc. If you could "keep your ears and eyes open" for me, I would appreciate it. Then let me know of those possible opportunities, Being far away I don't hear of those good congregations with jobs that are open.

If you know of someone who would like to work with the church here with support or a ministry, you can send that information to me as well.

Thanks!
