Mom's Sayings Span Time
by Pam Kumpe

Moms have a way of using our middle names when we re in trouble.

As a kid, whenever I heard a certain pitch in my mother s voice and the words
"Pamela Anne," I knew Mom was not happy with me. Actually I heard my twin s
name more often than mine, "Melody Lynne," Mom would call.

See, Melody pretty much tested Mom s patience, which sometimes resulted in
punishment and this gave me insight as to how far I wanted to push things. I
often referred to myself as the good twin, although that s not entirely the
truth. Just ask my sister.

I d say moms have favorite sayings or pet phrases for their children and even
Rhoda See Peter, Leaves Him standing at the Door!
by Pam Kumpe

Has anyone ever called you crazy? Or off your rocker?
Rhoda worked for New Testament Christians; we meet her in the book of Acts,
chapter 12, and the praying Christians accuse her of being off her rocker. Here
they are praying for Peter's release from prison, asking God for a miracle and
Peter is standing at their front door, literally.

He knocks on the door. He kicks the dirt from his sandals, and anxiously waits
to tell everyone about the latest miracle.

Herod has imprisoned Peter to up his approval ratings when he saw how they
reacted when he killed James. So in other words Herod was driven to lock up
Peter by political motives. He seized Peter and delivered him to four squads of
Have you made plans for Easter? Already have the menu planned? Ready to color

What would you do if God changed your plan? Are you flexible, ready to travel
to wherever God sends you?

In Acts 16:9 we learn about how Paul had a vision of a man from Macedonia who
was standing and begging him, Come over to Macedonia and help us.

After Paul had the vision, his missionary team got ready and left at once for
Macedonia. They concluded God had called them to preach the gospel there.

Jesus sat at the temple treasury as people dropped their offering into the
receptacles. One by one. A group. Two men. Some women. And then, he saw her.
Most did not. Would you have picked her out in the crowd? Would you have
noticed?

This widow holding two small coins worth less than a penny walked up to the
temple. She carried her life savings in her hand. It was all she had. No
husband. No other means to make money, and yet she came with the others, the
I Can only Imagine, Mary at Bethany
by Pam Kumpe

Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, the very house where
Lazarus lived. You know the guy Jesus had raised from the dead. At this house a
dinner is being held in honor of Jesus. Martha served, while Lazarus reclined
at the table with Jesus. I suppose this is where the first recliner was
invented at the house of Lazarus.

While the guys are reclining, Mary (remember, she is Martha s sister) she
took an expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus feet and wiped his feet with
her hair. Oh, the sweet smell of the perfume filled the house. But not everyone
thought this was a good thing. One of the disciples, Judas, the one who was
going to betray Jesus objected. "Why wasn t this perfume sold and the money
given to the poor instead? It was worth a year s wages, Judas complained.
Well, even it you never watched it, plenty of people did. It was the longest
Samantha, a nose-twitching witch, and her mortal husband, Darrin were on this
And we have a mother-in-law Endora and she doesn't like Darrin. She casts
By profession, Priscilla and her husband Aquila were tent makers, and Paul the
In between his preaching stints, Paul worked with them making tents in the
Anna, A Faithful Woman Who Saw Jesus

Did you know Anna means grace? She is one of my favorite women in the Bible, a
faithful woman; one I can learn a few things from, especially in her
faithfulness. As a prophetess, she held a rare role in history, as a woman who
is actually identified by name, she served God and she saw actually saw the
baby Jesus.

She spent her days praying at the Temple, and she was doing what she did
everyday, on the very day when Joseph and Mary presented their baby boy Jesus
to the Lord.

In Jerusalem Simeon, who was a righteous was about to see Jesus too. The Holy
Spirit was upon him, and he would not die before he saw Christ. Simeon
identified Jesus as the promised Messiah, the Savior for humanity.
The Bible says no person knows when the Son of Man will return. Even the Son
and the angels in heaven don't know when that day or time will be. Only the
Father knows.

Remember Noah, when the flood came, well when the Son of Man comes, it will be
the same as the thing that happened during his time. Prior to the flood, people
were eating and drinking, going about their business.

They were marrying and giving their children to be married and they were doing
Are you a follower of Jesus? Or are you a leader of a group? Well, Mary
Magdalene led a group of women and they were prominent followers of Jesus. She
was one of the main witnesses of all the events surrounding Jesus; his
crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection.

Isn t it amazing how a woman was a primary witness, and she saw her Savior die
Have your words ever been taken out of context? What about the Bible, ever
you done it yourself?

We should always read the before scriptures and after in our efforts to
understand the true meaning of the Word.

Like Matthew 15: 21-28; with a quick read, those scriptures seem like Jesus
considered other people, those other than of the Jewish descent to be "dogs".
So taken out of context, Jesus looked like he didn t care for the feelings of
Do interruptions bother you? Is your day planned, set in stone? Do you carry a
In Luke 8: 41 - 56, we read about a ruler who knelt before Jesus, pleading and
he said, My only daughter has died. She s only twelve.
He begged, Come and put your hand on her, and she will live.
Jesus did not hesitate, he got up and went with Jarius. The crowds were so
thick, they almost crushed Jesus. He even felt the touch of the woman who had
been bleeding for twelve years, and she received a healing while Jesus was on
Does your phone ring at the wrong time, interrupting your schedule? Do you
A large crowd followed him. They pressed around Jesus. There was a woman who
It s not like she hadn t been to all of the doctors. They had cared for her and
These two received quite a bit of attention in the Bible, and rightfully so,
but I want to look at Elizabeth who lived her life in quiet obedience to God.
He blessed her with a son, even though she was past the age of childbearing.
She received her own miracle, her own blessing, her own purpose in God s plan.
Now Zechariah, her husband was in the Temple burning incense and praying. An
