SALSA AT THE JAZZ FESTIVAL

Beaches Jazz Festival Dear Salseros and Salseras!

Another weekend in Toronto and another music festival. The 16th annual Beaches
Jazz Festival
hasn’t disappointed us yet as close to a million people attended it's various
performances. The only problem seemed to be finding parking and dealing with eager and not-tourist friendly parking officials.

We were there on Sunday and received an extremely warm reception by the organizers of the event who enjoyed the Son Aché performance as much as we did. It seemed almost as though Son Aché put the crowd on fire as anywhere you looked as people were swaying along and enjoying their great performance.

If you missed the festival, you can come any Friday to Cervejaria to hear these guys. Cervejaria is the music connoisseurs’ gathering place and it serves as an initiation spot to many who like this music and it's easy-going, non-pretentious atmosphere. Not only that, but you can be just steps away from one of the best voices of our time, Alberto Alberto.

To all of you who are not aware of this band’s calibre, check out our video gallery of Alberto Alberto singing at Oscar d'Leon’s concert! And don’t forget to drop in on Cervejaria on Fridays, or check them out at the Red Violin on August 21. You could also always drop by to hear Alberto Alberto who will be performing with Cassava Big Band on August 14. Cassava is touring to promote their recently released CD “Encuentros” . Check out our review of this CD as well!

And the great, free music never stops: Tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 27, 2004 Lula Lounge is holding a private reception from 6 to 9 pm for event and corporate party planners. If this means you, join them. Email tracy@lula.ca to register and for more details. Please pass this information on to any event planners you might know. After 9 the party is open to everyone. It's a great chance to hear Caché as well as the Brazilian drumming group Maracatu Nunca Antes. If you missed Maracatu at the Yonge Street Festival and Harbourfront over the past couple of weekends, come and join us on Tuesday. THERE’S NO COVER CHARGE! Hope to see you there, and until then:

FREE THE CUBAN FIVE: FIESTA RALLY

Many people demand freedom for the Cuban Five who have been unjustly imprisoned mainly for “conspiracy to commit espionage” when they infiltrated extremist Cuban American groups in Miami in order to prevent terrorist attacks against Cuba.
A Fiesta Rally was held on Saturday, July 24, at Metro Square, west of Roy Thomson Hall. Event's purpose is to denounce the recent draconian measures adopted by the U.S. government aimed at de-stabilizing Cuban society and to demand freedom for the Cuban Five unjustly imprisoned in U.S. jails. Check out our pictures from the event, click here

SHALL WE DANCE
A few weeks ago, we reported about the flip flops of this masterpiece remake. We have received some follow-up comments, so check them out in expectation of the October’s release of the movie, click here

CHOOSING A SWIM SUIT
With Summer just a bit behind the schedule, you still have time to prepare yourself for the season and do some shopping at discounted prices. What swimsuit fits your body type? Find out

VOTING
Amazingly enough, even though you can vote only once this time, there are thousands of you making a choice. Lula Lounge, Palazzo and Red Violin are in lead for the best T.O. club; Cache, Ricky Franco and Nick Ali and Marron Matizado seem to be band favourites, and DJ votes are really close, and with 2 more months of voting we predict a strong and close race.
