Subject: Reel 2 Reel #162 ~ See our new blog! I am moving soon! - July19, 2007

Howdy Adventureland Friends:

Remember the blogging idea that I had shelved. Well, I
finally decided to give it a try. Check it out and see
what you think. Should I keep it?

http://advland.braveblog.com

Now, I have some good and bad news. I have been
getting ready to move again. So I will be offline
eventually as I get everything going again.

There may or may not be another newsletter in July.
But, God willing, I will be back no later than August
1. And most likely with broadband. Wow!

Happy Birthday to my cousin Libby who turns 35 on July
19. She shares this special day with George Hamilton
(1937) and Anthony Edwards (1962).

Happy Birthday to Doris on July 20. She shares this
special day with Natalie Wood (1938) and Kim Carnes
(1946).

+===================================+
'HARRY POTTER' IS BOX OFFICE CHARMER

The Warner Bros. sequel "Harry Potter and the Order of
the Phoenix" conjured up $77.4 million to lead the
weekend box office, according to studio estimates.

That raised the movie's total domestic gross to $140
million since opening Wednesday.

"Order of the Phoenix" has taken in an additional
$190.3 million in 44 other countries where it began
rolling out Wednesday.

"Transformers," the DreamWorks-Paramount tale that was
the previous weekend's No. 1 movie, slipped to second
place with $36 million, lifting its total to $223
million.

The weekend's other new wide release, "Captivity" from
Lionsgate and After Dark Films, opened out of the top
10 with $1.55 million. The movie stars Elisha Cuthbert
as a model who is abducted and tortured.

"Order of the Phoenix" expanded Hollywood business.
The top 12 movies took in $171.1 million, up 14% from
the same weekend last year, when "Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" was No. 1 with $62.3
million.

The previous 4 "Harry Potter" flicks all had bigger
first weekends, ranging from $88.4 million to $102.7
million, but those debuted Friday. "Order of the
Phoenix" was the first to get a Wednesday opening.

"We're in the middle of summer, and we just said why
not, because kids are out of school," said Dan
Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros. "It
certainly turned out to be the right decision."

"Order of the Phoenix" did more business in 5 days
than each of the first 3 "Harry Potter" movies did in
their first full week, and it nearly matched the $146
million first week total of the fourth film, "Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Fellman said.

Warner Bros. counts on the "Harry Potter" frenzy to
persist with the publication next Saturday of the
final book in the series, "Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows."

"People are going to have Potter mania happening again
when the book comes out," said Paul Dergarabedian,
president of Media By Numbers.
"They'll be walking book in hand into the movie
theater."

In limited release, Focus Features' biography "Talk to
Me" opened with $390,754 in 33 theaters. The film
stars Don Cheadle as an ex-con turned commentator on
the radio in the 1960s.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at
U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By
Numbers LLC:

1. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" @ $77.4
million.

2. "Transformers" @ $36 million.

3. "Ratatouille" @ $18 million.

4. "Live Free or Die Hard" @ $10.9 million.

5. "License to Wed" @ $7.4 million.

6. "1408" @ $5.01 million.

7. "Evan Almighty" @ $5 million.

8. "Knocked Up" @ $3.7 million.

9. "Sicko" @ $2.65 million.

10. "Ocean's Thirteen" @ $1.9 million.

HUME BLAKE CRONYN

DOB: July 18, 1911, London, Ontario, Canada
DOD: June 15, 2003, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA.

He had a spectacular career on Broadway as a writer,
director, producer and actor. Cronyn’s work in theatre
lead him to 2 of the greatest joys in his life – his
successful film career, and his marriage to the
multi-talented, Jessica Tandy. Cronyn and Tandy
starred on both stage and screen together in "The
Fourposter," "A Delicate Balance," "The Gin Game,"
"Foxfire," Cocoon (1985), Batteries Not Included
(1987) and 1993 TV movie "To Dance with the White
Dog." Cronyn and Tandy were honored together in 1994,
with the first Tony Award for lifetime theatrical
achievement. In recent years, Cronyn made memorable
appearances in the films Marvin’s Room (1996), 12
Angry Men (1997) and Seasons of Love in 1999. Sadly,
Cronyn passed away in June of 2003, but earlier in the
year had appeared as himself in the documentary
Broadway: The Golden Age, by The Legends Who Were
There. A fitting end.

FACTOIDS:

His father Hume Blake Cronyn has an observatory
dedicated to him in the University of Western Ontario.
The refractor telescope was the largest ever built in
the western hemisphere at the time.

Although not widely known, he had a glass eye, having
lost the real one to cancer.

Was once a boxer who was nominated for the Canadian
Olympic boxing team.

QOTABLES:

"To act you must have a sense of truth and some degree
of dedication."

"If you're doing the devil, look for the angel in him.
If you're doing the angel, look for the devil in him."

CAR BUFFS RANK TOP 10 MOVIE CARS

The people at the automobile web site Cars.com
recently jump started a good discussion with their
list of the Top 10 Most Memorable Movie Cars. The
chart is in honor of the new Transformers movie.

Their list is a retread of a similar list of theirs
from last year, that one for the movie Cars. This
overhauled line considers much of the reader feedback
the original list received.

Without further ado, here is their list.

10) The Italian Job - 2003 Mini Cooper S
09) Ghostbusters - 1959 Cadillac Ambulance
08) The Blues Brothers - 1974 Dodge Monaco
07) American Graffiti - 1932 Ford coupe
06) Wayne's World - 1976 AMC Pacer
05) Bullitt - 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390
04) Goldfinger - 1964 Aston Martin DB5
03) Ferris Buehler's Day Off - 1961 Ferrari 250 GT
02) Smokey and the Bandit - 1977 Pontiac Trans Am
01) Back to the Future - 1981 DeLorean DMC-12

As Cars.com admits in their article, this list will
likely be revisited with the debut of next year's
Speed Racer movie. Maybe Bumblebee, the '77 Camaro
from Transformers (you can now bid for it on eBay),
will make the 2008 list.

Visit Cars.com for photos of all the models.

WORK TIME:

Recently, a magazine ran a contest. They were looking
for people to submit quotes from their real-life
managers. Here are some of the submissions:

As of tomorrow, employees will only be able to access
the building using individual security cards. Pictures
will be taken next Wednesday and employees will
receive their cards in two weeks. (Fred Dales @
Microsoft Corp.)

What I need is a list of specific unknown problems we
will encounter. (Lykes Lines Shipping)

E-mail is not to be used to pass on information or
data. It should be used only for company business
(Accounting manager @ Electric Boat Company)

This project is so important, we can't let things that
are more important interfere with it.
(Advertising/Marketing manager @ UPS)

Doing it right is no excuse for not meeting the
schedule. No one will believe you solved this problem
in one day! We've been working on it for months. Now,
go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when
it's time to tell them.
(R&D supervisor @ 3M Corp.)

Quote from the Boss: "Teamwork is a lot of people
doing what I say." (Marketing executive @ Citrix
Corp.)

We recently received a memo from senior management
saying: "This is to inform you that a memo will be
issued today regarding the subject mentioned above."
(Microsoft, Legal Affairs Division)

One day my Boss asked for a status report concerning a
project I was working on. I asked him if tomorrow
would be soon enough. He said "If I wanted it
tomorrow, I would have waited until tomorrow to ask
for it!" (New business manager @ Hallmark Greeting
Cards.)

CHOW TIME:

Every morning during our coffee break, my co-workers
and I listened to the culinary disasters of a newlywed
colleague. We then tried to share some helpful hints
and recipes.

One day she asked us for step-by-step instructions on
cooking sweet potatoes, one of her husband's
favorites. "I've finally been able to make them
sweet," she said, "but how do you make them orange?"

LOWE PROMOTES TAX CREDITS 4 HYBRIDS

Rob Lowe appeared before lawmakers and promoted tax
credits for people who add a plug-in feature to
hybrids. Lowe plays a junior senator from California
on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters." He testified before a
panel looking at energy and global warming. Later, he
appeared at a demonstration 3 blocks from the Capitol
featuring a Toyota Prius that had been converted to a
plug-in hybrid. Lowe's interest in clean energy is not
new. "The first money I ever made and was able to
invest, I invested in an alternative energy company
going back 25 years," he said. Plug-in hybrids have
electric & gas motors, plus a battery pack that can be
recharged at home.

SHEEN ANNOUNCES HIS ENGAGEMENT

Charlie Sheen's  bride-to-be is Brooke Mueller, a real

said. Rosenfield said Sheen (41) proposed to Mueller
(29) during a recent trip to Costa Rica. He said the
couple met in April 2006. Sheen has two daughters, Sam
(3) and Lola (2), from his marriage to Denise
Richards. They divorced last year. He stars in CBS
sitcom "Two and a Half Men." His screen credits
include "Platoon" and the "Hot Shots!" movies.

WAYAN BROS. TRY AGAIN 4 STUDIO & PARK

The Wayans brothers could be headed back to the
bargaining table to build a movie studio and theme
park. An Oakland City Council committee planned to
consider an exclusive 4-month negotiating agreement
with a team led by Keenen Ivory Wayans to develop 70
acres on a former Army base. An 18-month agreement
expired in May after the team failed to meet most
deadlines. City officials said the new agreement will
require a series of tight deadlines. Keenen Ivory
Wayans met with Mayor Ron Dellums last month to pitch
the project, which would include a movie production
studio, business park, retail village and luxury
hotel. Developers said it would create more than 1,500
jobs in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods.

HARRISON (65) UP 'INDY' CHALLENGE

Harrison Ford, who just turned 65, still fits into
Indiana Jones' trousers. Many fans are curious, after
18 years can he live up to the physical rigors of the
series. Producers say Ford is as fit as ever. "I have
to say, he looks amazing," said Kathleen Kennedy. "He
looks fantastic in the outfit." The action star is
actually doing many of his own stunts. The movie just
completed the first of 3 weeks of filming in Hawaii,
after a week each in New Mexico and Connecticut.
George Lucas & Steven Spielberg have not released the
title of the film, scheduled to release May 22, 2008.
The producers are tightlipped, and the remote sets are
well guarded. But Kennedy promised fans would get the
same level of excitement as the previous 3 films.

VERN TESSIO GOT MARRIED?

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell were married in a
weekend ceremony. Romijn (34) and O'Connell (33) tied
the knot in a small ceremony, Romijn's representative,
Lewis Kay, told People magazine. The actress stars in
ABC comedy "Ugly Betty." She was married to John
Stamos. They divorced in 2005. It is the first
marriage for O'Connell, who starred in NBC's
"Crossing Jordan." His screen credits include "Stand
by Me" and "Jerry Maguire."

HUSTON LANDS 'CHOKE'HOLD ON ROLE

In May, Hollywood greenlighted Chuck Palahniuk's Choke
with Sam Rockwell in the lead. The production is set
to start this week in New Jersey and Sam's mother has
been cast. Glenn Close, Annette Bening and Julianne
Moore were being considered to play Victor's mother.
Anjelica Huston won that role. This is the second book
from Chuck Palahniuk to be made into a film. The first
was Fight Club. Choke is on track for an April 2008
theatrical release.
