Subject: Reel 2 Reel #171 ~ Happy Birthday Mom! - November02, 2007

Howdy Adventureland Friends:

Some of you may not have gotten your newsletter last
week. Zinester has a new filter that identifies this
as SPAM. With that in mind, I may go shopping for yet
another mailing list host.

November 2 is National Deviled Egg Day. So I want to
share with my tips and tricks. Swap classic mustard
with spicey mustard or honey mustard. Sometimes I add
cream cheese or even tuna. All are tastey options.

Our first birthday greetings for this month go to
Christina on November 3. She shares this special day
with Charles Bronson (1921), Ken Berry (1933),
Roseanne Barr (1952) and Kate Capshaw (1953).

My mom's birthday is November 8. Jaque shares this
special day with Bram Stoker (1847), Margaret Mitchell
(1900), Esther Rolle (1933), Leif Garrett (1961) and
Courtney Thorne-Smith (1968).

Not much has changed this week. Look for leftover
candy ideas. We also have our first Christmas Gift
Idea -- a $400 film school on DVD.My Shining Star is
the late and great River Phoenix.

Have you joined Blingo?

'SAW IV' CUTS-OFF THE COMPETITION

Lionsgate's "Saw IV" led the weekend box office with
$32.1 million, maintaining the horror franchise's
position as a Halloween perennial, according to studio
estimates.

Debuting at No. 2 was Disney's "Dan in Real Life," a
romance starring Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche and
Dane Cook that took in $12.1 million.

Overall Hollywood revenues declined for the
sixth-straight weekend. The top-12 movies took in
$86.1 million, down 2%, better results than the
previous weeks, when business had fallen significantly
more.

The results for "Saw IV" were on par with "Saw III,"
which pulled in $33.6 million over the same weekend
last year. Since the original low-budget "Saw" became
an out-of-nowhere fright sensation in 2004, Lionsgate
has released a new chapter each October, all hits.

"I would expect to see 'Saw V' next year, 'Saw VI' the
year after that and 'Saw VII' the following year if
they can keep it up," said Paul Dergarabedian of Media
By Numbers. "There's just something inherently
gruesome and compelling about these movies. I don't
know what that says about society in general, but it
certainly works at the box office."

"Saw IV" features post-mortem horrors concocted by the
fiendish killer Jigsaw, whose autopsy turns up a
cassette tape in his entrails that leads the cops into
a new snare of torture puzzles he left behind.

"Dan in Real Life" was the prime choice for the date
crowd. The movie stars Carell as a widower raising 3
daughters who falls for his brother's new girlfriend
during a family reunion.

In narrower release, Roadside Attractions' "Bella"
opened solidly with $1.3 million. The film stars
Eduardo Verastegui as a former soccer player who hooks
up with a pregnant waitress (Tammy Blanchard).

Thinkfilm's "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead,"
directed by Sidney Lumet, opened in limited release at
2 New York theaters with $73,500. The film, which
expands into nationwide release through November,
stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke as
brothers who plot to rob their parents' jewelry store.

Sony Pictures Classics' "Jimmy Carter: Man From
Plains," had a poor debut, taking in just $10,573 at 7
theaters. The film from director Jonathan Demme
follows the former president during a tour to promote
his book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid."

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at
U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By
Numbers LLC.

01) "Saw IV" @ $32.1 million.

02) "Dan in Real Life" @ $12.1 million.

03) "30 Days of Night" @ $6.7 million.

04) "The Game Plan" @ $6.3 million.

05) "Why Did I Get Married?" @ $5.7 million.

06) "Michael Clayton" @ $5 million.

07) "Gone Baby Gone" @ $3.9 million.

08) "The Comebacks" @ $3.45 million.

09) "We Own the Night" @ $3.4 million.

10) "The Nightmare Before Christmas" @ $3.35 million.

R.I. MAN SUES BELUSHI OVER SUV

Jim Belushi is being sued by a man who accuses him of
selling a used 2001 Land Rover that turned out to be a
lemon. He claims the sport utility vehicle needed more
than $6,000 in repairs - and demands Belushi pay.
"The claim is false and frivolous," Belushi's lawyer,
Brian Wolf said. Wolf said a small claims court found
Belushi did not owe Jan Lewandowski. Jan sent $11,500
to Belushi's representatives in California, then flew
out to retrieve the SUV. On the way home, the Land
Rover needed a fuel pump and still requires a water
pump, radiator and other work totaling $5,000.

GARRISON SENTENCED 4 CRASH

Lane Garrison was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in
prison Wednesday for a drunken driving crash that
killed a 17-year-old last December. "The public has
the right to know that conduct such as this, causing
devastation such as this" will have consequences, said
Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox. Garrison (27) could
have received 7 years in prison. "I'm sick of my own
behavior that night," Lane said. "This remorse is
genuine. I feel it every day." Setian was in the 2001
Land Rover that Garrison crashed on Dec. 2.

'CAMELOT' STAR HAS DIED

Robert Goulet (73) died while he waited for a lung
transplant. His Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched
his career. He had pulmonary fibrosis. Vera Goulet,
wife of 25 years, said he was in good spirits. Goulet
also performed in movies ranging from "Gay Purr-ee"
(1962) to "Naked Gun 2 1/2" (1991). The only son of
French-Canadian parents was born in Lawrence, Mass.
After his father died, his mother moved the family to
Canada. His first 2 marriages ended in divorce. He had
a daughter with first wife, Louise Longmore, and 2
sons with second wife, Carol Lawrence.

APARTMENT CABLE COMPETITION

Federal regulators plan to throw out exclusive cable
service contracts with apartment buildings and open up
competition to phone companies. Under FCC Chairman
Kevin Martin's proposal, cable companies would no
longer have exclusive deals with apartment buildings
to provide cable TV to building residents. Martin, who
circulated the proposal among commissioners, said the
proposal would be favorable to minorities because they
represent a larger share of apartment dwellers.
Trade groups for the cable companies and building
owners indicated they may challenge the ruling.

FCC APPROVES OF RULE CHANGE

Federal Communications Commission unanimously approved
a rule banning exclusive agreements that cable
operators have with apartments. The rule prohibitS
cable companies from enforcing existing exclusive
contracts and allows telecommunications companies to
offer video services along with Internet access and
phone service. The cable industry, which said it is
unlawful for the government to invalidate their
contracts, said these deals provide better pricing and
service.

UNIONS SUPPORT WRITERS

Major Hollywood unions were lining up behind writers
as contract talks resumed. Teamsters union told its
members they can honor picket lines. Teamsters Local
399 said it has an obligation to honor its contracts
but individuals are protected by federal law. Screen
Actors Guild also voiced support, but said members had
to report to work. Negotiations between Writers Guild
of America and The Alliance of Motion Picture and
Television Producers adjourned without a deal. A key
issue involves giving writers more money from the sale
of DVDs and the distribution of shows via digital
platforms. A strike would not immediately impact TV or
film production. Most shows have scripts in hand.

CONTRACT TALKS BREAK OFF

Writers and producers reached a cliffhanger. Their
contract expired Wednesday and both sides say they are
far apart on key issues. Writers are seeking DVD and
digital revenue. Writers also want to be for creating
content for the Internet. "The magnitude of that
proposal alone is blocking us from making any further
progress," J. Nicholas Counter, president of Alliance
of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The issue
is key because actors are expected to fight for a
larger share of DVD and digital revenue when their
contract expires. If writers do strike, the first
casualty would likely be late-night talk shows.

Internet sites and video games. "It's so violent, it
struck me personally as pornographic violence." He was
talking about a free version on the Internet.
