CAGE 'TREASURE' HUNT CONTINUES*

Nicolas Cage should be running out of room for his
loot. Disney's "National Treasure: Book of Secrets,"
with Cage as a history buff on the trail of a lost
city of gold, was the No. 1 draw for the third
straight week with $20.2 million, according to studio
estimates.

Three other hits crowded behind: Warner Bros., "I Am
Legend," with $16.4 million; Fox Searchlight's "Juno"
with $16.2 million; and 20th Century Fox's "Alvin and
the Chipmunks" with $16 million.

"Book of Secrets" raised its domestic total to $171
million in 3 weeks, putting it just $2 million shy of
the total that 2004's "National Treasure" rang up
during its entire run.

"I Am Legend" has grossed $228.7 million, while
"Alvin and the Chipmunks" has taken in $176.7 million.

The only new wide release, Warner Bros. fright flick
"One Missed Call," pulled in the horror-movie crowd
despite loathing by critics. Starring Edward Burns &
Shannyn Sossamon in a tale of people whose deaths are
preceded by cell phone messages recording their final
moments, the movie debuted at 5 with $13.5 million.

The first weekend of 2008 was promising for Hollywood,
continuing a holiday box office surge that followed a
weak fall season. The top 12 movies took in $123.9
million, up 18.5% from the first weekend of 2007.

Featuring a star-making turn from Ellen Page as a
pregnant teen, "Juno" has emerged as an independent
film sensation, grabbing critical praise and building
momentum as Hollywood's awards season progresses.

"It's the coolest little success story coming out of
2007," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By
Numbers. "It's playing like a mini-blockbuster right
now."

The film has 3 nominations for Sunday's Golden Globes,
among them best musical or comedy and an acting honor
for Page.

With $52 million already in the bank, "Juno" is on its
way to becoming Fox Searchlight's biggest hit ever,
approaching "Little Miss Sunshine" at $59.9 million
and "Sideways" at $71.5 million.

"Juno" started off in larger cities but now has caught
fire in smaller towns such as Columbus, Ohio,
Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said Peter
Rice, Fox Searchlight president.

"The middle of the country has really embraced the
movie. And I think the time of year has had a
magnifying effect. All the top 10 lists," Rice said.
"When the press writes that it's one of the best
movies of the year combined with a movie people love,
I think those are the defining factors."

Breaking into the top 10 as it expanded to more
theaters was Focus Features' tragic romance
"Atonement," which came in at 10 with $5.1 million.

"Atonement" leads the Golden Globe field with 7
nominations, among them best drama and acting honors
for Keira Knightley & James McAvoy.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday - Sunday @ U.S. &
Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers.
Final figures will be released Monday.

01) "National Treasure" @ $20.2 million.

02) "I Am Legend" @ $16.4 million.

03) "Juno" @ $16.2 million.

04) "Alvin and the Chipmunks" @ $16 million.

05) "One Missed Call" @ $13.5 million.

06) "Charlie Wilson's War" @ $8.2 million.

07) "P.S. I Love You" @ $8 million.

08) "The Water Horse" @ $6.3 million.

09) "Sweeney Todd" @ $5.4 million.

Nicolas Cage (1964):

Cage was born Nicolas Coppola and spent his summers
with his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola. Inspired at a
young age to be an actor, Cage studied his craft at
San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre, and by
the time he was 18, he secured his first feature role
in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He changed his name
to Cage to avoid riding his Uncle’s coattails. It was
Cage’s performance as Cher’s love in Moonstruck (1987)
that secured his star power, and in 1995 he garnered
an Academy Award for Leaving Las Vegas. Some of Cage’s
other films include City of Angels (1998), Gone in
Sixty Seconds (2000), Windtalkers (2002), Adaptation
(2002) and Matchstick Men (2003). Most recently, Cage
starred in the National Treasure films.

MICROWAVE POPCORN

"Believe it or not, you can make microwave popcorn
using standard pop corn and a brown paper lunch bag."

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

DIRECTIONS
In a cup or small bowl, mix together the unpopped
popcorn and oil. Pour the coated corn into a brown
paper lunch sack, and sprinkle in the salt. Fold the
top of the bag over twice to seal in the ingredients.
Cook in the microwave at full power for 2 1/2 to 3
minutes, or until you hear pauses of about 2 seconds
between pops. Carefully open the bag to avoid steam,
and pour into a serving bowl.

NOTE
Unlike traditional microwave popcorn, this should be
placed right side up.

SHATNER'S DECADE WITH PRICELINE*

William Shatner beat out Bill Cosby for his
longest-running role. Ten years ago, Priceline
narrowed its list of potential spokesmen to Shatner
and Cosby. Captain Kirk won because he is
"futuristic," and
"anyone holding a credit card aged 18 to 95 had heard
of William Shatner and knew who he was," said Brett
Keller, their chief marketing officer. He "propelled
Priceline from a second- or third-tier brand to a
top-tier brand with extremely high brand awareness,"
Keller said. Shatner was Captain Kirk on "Star Trek" 4
years, though he reprised the role several decades.

LAWYER SAYS LOHAN BACK ON TRACK*

Lindsay Lohan rang in the New Year drinking in Italy,
her lawyer says, but is "back on track" in terms of
sobriety. A video obtained by The Associated Press
shows Lohan, who spent 2007 in and out of rehab,
taking a swig from a champagne bottle. "After being
handed a champagne bottle while on a dance floor in
Italy on New Year's Eve and drinking from it, the good
news is that Lindsay immediately stopped, called her
sponsor, and got herself back on track," her attorney,
Blair Berk, said. "There is no magic cure here." Lohan
(21) was in Italy to receive an award at the Capri
Hollywood International Film Festival.

'TRACE' STAR WELCOMES BABY*

Poppy Montgomery and her boyfriend, Adam Kaufman,
welcomed a son, Jackson Phillip Kaufman, on Dec. 23.
The baby boy was born in Los Angeles and weighed 7
pounds, 4 ounces, Montgomery's publicist, Jennifer
Shoucair, said Friday. He is the couple's first child.
Montgomery (32) plays FBI agent Samantha Spade on
"Without a Trace." Kaufman (33) has appeared on
several episodes of the CBS drama.

NICHOLS PLEADS GUILTY*

Austin Nichols, who portrayed the title character in
HBO's "John From Cincinnati," has pleaded guilty to
impaired driving and paid a $1,000 fine. The
27-year-old pleaded by mail on Thursday to driving
while visibly impaired. The plea stems from an
incident in Jackson last August, when Nichols was
staying with family at nearby Clark Lake. "John From
Cincinnati" was canceled last year. Nichols also
appeared in "Deadwood."

DICAPRIO ATTACKER FLEED 2 CANADA

Police will seek extradition of a woman accused of
fleeing to Canada after slashing Leonardo DiCaprio
with a broken beer bottle at a party in 2005. Aretha
Wilson has been in custody in Toronto in connection
with an aggravated assault case there and is suspect
in other assault cases. Prosecutors are awaiting a
formal communication from police before they launch an
inquiry into whether the charge is extraditable.
Dicaprio suffered "great bodily injury" when Wilson
attacked him, according to an arrest warrant charging
her with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

MURPHY MARRIES EDMONDS 4 NEW YEARS*

Eddie Murphy celebrated New Year's Day by tying the
knot with Tracey Edmonds. The pair exchanged vows on a
private island off Bora Bora in French Polynesia in
front of a small group of family and friends. Murphy
and Edmonds began dating last year. They were engaged
in July. Murphy has 5 children from his marriage to
Nicole Mitchell Murphy, who filed for divorce in 2005.
He also has a daughter with Melanie Brown. She has 2
sons from her marriage to Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.

PENN 2 LEAD CANNES JURY*

Sean Penn will head the awards jury at the Cannes Film
Festival this year. The festival's 61st edition is
scheduled for May 14-25. Penn said, "that a new
generation of filmmaking may have begun," citing
"increasingly thoughtful, provocative, moving, and
imaginative films by talented filmmakers" in what
appeared to be "a rejuvenation of cinema building
worldwide." "The Cannes Film Festival has long been
the epicenter in the discovery of those new waves of
filmmakers from all over the world. I very much look
forward to participating in this year's festival as
president of the jury," Penn said.

BLACK EXPECTING SECOND BABY

Jack Black has another reason to smile. His wife,
Tanya Haden, is pregnant with their second child.
"Yes, she's expecting," Black said at a press day for
his latest project, "Be Kind Rewind," People magazine
reported. He declined to offer details. Black & Haden
were married in 2006. They have an 18-month-old son.
Black said he employs a "day-by-day" strategy to
parenting. "I've been told that two children is three
times as hard as one child, but then strangely three
children is easier than one," he joked.

LSU COACH USES VIDEO GAMES

When practice & film study is done, LSU quarterbacks
play video games. The difference is Matt Flynn & Ryan
Perrilloux are working on the game plan when they fire

uses a custom-made video game. XOS Technologies worked
with EA Sports to produce PlayAction Simulator that
LSU uses. The game looks and plays just like Madden
NFL & NCAA football. Crowton is able to customize each
quarterback's video game playbook. For now the
PlayAction Simulator is geared toward quarterbacks and
is played from their perspective.
