Subject: Reel 2 Reel Issue # 184 ~ Superbowl Sunday: Go Giants! - February03, 2008

Hey Adventureland Friends:

Gosh, it has been another one of those weeks. When
everything goes wrong. First the microwave died. My
computer geek fixed it. The guy is a genious.

You would be hard pressed to find something Danny
can't fix. And he works cheap too. Knowing him as I
do, I am still amazed by his talent. Thanks, dude!

Then, I lost my telephone again. Yes, even more
telephone trouble - and outside too, buried in the
ice. What could be more convenient, huh?

I am eager to finish to website and get it published
for you. That is my goal for this month. Depending on
how cooperative my computers and phone line are.

Blingo is the place to be on friday for movie buffs.
The prizes awarded are movie tickets. This is now
owned by Publishers Clearing House.

'SPARTANS' BARELY BEAT 'RAMBO'

Epic spoof "Meet the Spartans" narrowly conquered
"Rambo" to nab the top spot in the weekend box office,
according to studio estimates Sunday.

The 20th Century Fox movie, which lampooned last
year's "300," took in an estimated $18.7 million in
its weekend debut. It edged out "Rambo," a Lionsgate
release starring and directed by Sylvester Stallone,
which took in $18.2 million.

"This was a very tight race for the No. 1 spot," said
Paul Dergarabedian of Media By Numbers. "I think we
tend to underestimate films like 'Meet the Spartans.'
Fox has really locked onto something that's extremely
popular."

"Spartans" tells the tale of hero Leonidas who leads a
group of 13 Spartans to defend against the invading
Persians. It was directed by Jason Friedberg & Aaron
Seltzer, who produced "Epic Movie" and "Date Movie."

"Spartans" was popular among teens and young adults,
who made up about 75% of the audience. The film was
rated PG-13, while R-rated "Rambo" was popular with
older men.

"We are thrilled with the numbers," said Bert
Livingston, senior VP of distribution at Fox. "We made
it for young people and they came."

Harvey Weinstein of Weinstein Co., who co-distributed
"Rambo," said he expected the film's mature audience
to sustain its popularity at the box office.

"I think we'll have a great hold," Weinstein said.

"Rambo" is the fourth installment of the franchise and
stars Stallone as the Vietnam vet spending his
retirement in Thailand when a group of missionaries
enlists his help in aiding a village endangered.

The top 12 movies raked in $117.8 million, up 32% from
the same weekend last year, when Fox's "Epic Movie"
led the box office with $18.6 million.

Last weekend's hit, "Cloverfield," which set a January
opening record with $41 million, fell to #4 with $12.7
million, a 68% decline. "27 Dresses," starring
Katherine Heigl was #3 with $13.6 million, and the new
thriller "Untraceable," featuring Diane Lane, rounded
out the top five.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday - Sunday @ U.S. &
Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC:

01) "Meet the Spartans" @ $18.7 million

02) "Rambo" @ $18.2 million

03) "27 Dresses" @ $13.6 million

04) "Cloverfield" @ $12.7 million

05) "Untraceable" @ $11.2 million

06) "Juno" @ $10.3 million

07) "The Bucket List" @ $10.2 million

08) "There Will be Blood" @ $4.9 million

09) "National Treasure 2" @ $4.7 million

10) "Mad Money" @ $4.6 million

DGA RECOMMENDS LABOR DEAL

The Directors Guild of America voted unanimously to
recommend ratification of a deal with Hollywood
studios. The 3-year collective bargaining agreement
reached Jan. 17 establishes key provisions involving
compensation for programs offered on the Internet.
The deal has been lauded by 8 major studios. The
ballot will now go to the DGA's 13,500 members for
ratification. Internet distribution has also been a
sticking point between writers and studios, which
broke off talks on Dec. 7.

For the month of love, I am looking for movies of love
and friendship. Please, send me your favorites. Tell
us about them and/or their significants to you.

mailto:advland@live.com?subject=Valentine_Movies

Here are 2 movies that were delayed. The deaths of
Brad Renfro & Heath Leger had diverted my attention.
They are 'Man In The Moon' and 'Miracle In Lane 2.'

Puppy love is the plot of number one. A young girl
falls for a young man who later dies in a freak farm
accident.

Number 2 deals with the bonds of brotherhood. A big
brother, pushed to the limits by his disabled little
brother, rallies behind him when he needs it most.

STAND BY ME

Four boys set out on a search for a missing teenager
and have the adventure of their lives.

THE CURE

Dexter, who has AIDS, and his neighbor, Eric, become
best friends and make one summer last a lifetime.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

The forbidden and secretive relationship between two
cowboys and their lives over the years.

THE MAN IN THE MOON

After handsome 17-year-old Court moves into the long
vacant Foster ranch, 14-year-old Dani falls in love.

MIRACLE IN LANE 2

a 13-year-old boy, confined to a wheelchair, is
determined to win a trophy like his athletic brother.

Now, I will let you get back to Superbowl Sunday. My
team is out, but I am rooting my favorite QB's baby
brother. Yes, go New York Giants!

Rewind,
Paul @ Reel 2 Reel
