'10,000' OUT HUNTS 'ROAD TRIP'

Movie-goers went hunting for their inner caveman as
they sat in the dark for the prehistoric adventure
"10,000 B.C.," which led the weekend box office with
$35.7 million, according to studio estimates.

The Warner Bros. spectacle, which follows a band of
people struggling to survive amid woolly mammoths,
saber toothed tigers and human marauders, also took in
$25.3 million in 20 overseas markets where it began
rolling out Wednesday.

Opening in second was Disney's comedy "College Road
Trip," which pulled in $14 million. Martin Lawrence
stars as an overprotective dad who tags along with his
daughter on her girls-only trek to choose a college.

Both movies put in decent numbers despite bad reviews.

"10,000" came in well behind the openings of past
blockbusters from director Roland Emmerich, whose best
debut came 4 years ago with "The Day After Tomorrow"
at $68.7 million.

"Those movies opened up in the summer. We're very
strong for this time of year," said Dan Fellman, head
of distribution for Warner.

Fellman said Emmerich's films tend to do better
internationally, including "The Day After Tomorrow,"
which topped out at $186.7 million domestically and
did nearly twice that overseas.

"10,000" opened #1 in 19 of its 20 foreign markets,
among them Spain, Mexico, Germany and Australia, said
Veronica Kwan-Rubinek, head of international
distribution for Warner.

Overall business was off compared to the same time a
year ago, an inevitable decline given that "300"
opened with $71 million over that weekend in 2007,
twice the haul of "10,000" The top-12 movies took in
$91.8 million, down 34% from last year.

It was the fourth straight weekend that revenues fell,
cutting into a surge earlier this year. Attendance is
up 0.5% so far in 2008 compared to a year ago,
according to Media By Numbers.

"The advantage we've been enjoying over the last
couple of months has really taken a punch in the gut,"
said Paul Dergarabedian, Media By Numbers president.

The previous weekend's top flick, New Line Cinema's
"Semi-Pro" starring Will Ferrell, tumbled to fourth
place with $5.8 million. That brought its 10-day total
to $24.7 million, a poor showing for a Ferrell comedy.

Debuting at #5 was Lionsgate's "The Bank Job," which
opened with $5.7 million. Jason Statham stars as a
former crook drawn back to a life of crime when he's
lured into robbing Lloyd's of London.

In narrower release, Focus Features' 1930s comedy
"Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" opened with $2.5
million in 535 theaters for an average of $4,750 a
cinema, compared to $10,478 in 3,410 theaters for
"10,000 B.C." and $5,174 in 2,706 locations for
"College Road Trip."

"Miss Pettigrew" stars Frances McDormand as a
destitute British governess who bluffs her way into a
gig as social secretary to a flighty American actress.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday - Sunday @ U.S. &
Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers.
Final figures will be released Monday.

01) "10,000 B.C." @ $35.7 million.

02) "College Road Trip" @ $14 million.

03) "Vantage Point" @ $7.5 million.

04) "Semi-Pro" @ $5.8 million.

05) "The Bank Job" @ $5.7 million.

06) "The Spiderwick Chronicles" @ $4.8 million.

07) "The Other Boleyn Girl" @ $4 million.

08) "Jumper" @ $3.8 million.

09) "Step Up 2 the Streets" @ $3 million.

10) "Fool's Gold" @ $2.8 million.

+===================================+
LIZA MAY MINNELLI

DOB:  March 12, 1946 - Los Angeles, CA

This legend debuted on stage at New York's Palace
Theatre with her mom, Judy Garland, when she was 7.
Blessed with a magnetic stage presence and a voice as
rich and powerful as her mother’s, Minnelli became the
youngest artist ever to win a Tony Award for “Flora”
(1965). Liza released her first album in 1964, and
throughout the years has recorded seemingly endless
compilations of Broadway tunes mixed with new,
original songs. While Liza first appeared on screen
when she was 2, it was her work in the 1972 feature
Cabaret that earned her an Oscar. Throughout the
years, Liza has given stellar performances in the
feature films New York, New York (1977), Arthur (1981)
and Stepping Out (1991). Some of her most memorable
televised concert performances include “Frank, Liza
and Sammy – The Ultimate Event” and “Live From Radio
City Music Hall."

NOTABLES:

She made her film debut at 14-months of age in the
movie In the Good Old Summertime (1949).

At age 16, Liza was on her own in New York City,
struggling to begin her career in show business.

Received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991.
She was honored for her career in theatre. Her star is
located at 7000 Hollywood Blvd.

QUOTABLES:

"Thank God for film, it can capture a moment and hold
it there forever. If anyone ever asks you, "Who were
they?" or "What made them so good?" I think a reel of
film answers that question."  (1974)

NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA

INGREDIENTS:
1 Teaspoon active dry yeast
2/3 Cup warm water (110F/45C)
2 Cups all-purpose flour
1 Teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons olive oil

1 (10 ounce) Can tomato sauce
1 Pound shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 Cup grated Romano cheese
1/4 Cup chopped fresh basil
1 Tablespoon dried oregano
1 Teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 Tablespoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS:
1. Sprinkle the yeast over the surface of the warm
water in a large bowl. Let stand for 1 minute, then
stir to dissolve. Mix in the flour, salt and olive
oil. When the dough is too thick to stir, turn out
onto a floured surface, and knead for 5 minutes. Knead
in a little more flour if the dough is too sticky.
Place into an oiled bowl, cover, and set aside in a
warm place to rise until doubled in bulk.

2. Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F (245 degrees C).
If using a pizza stone, preheat it in the oven as
well, setting it on the lowest shelf.

3. When the dough has risen, flatten it out on a
lightly floured surface. Roll or stretch out into a 12
inch circle, and place on a baking pan. If you are
using a pizza stone, you may place it on a piece of
parchment while preheating the stone in the oven.

4. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough.
Sprinkle with oregano, mozzarella cheese, basil,
Romano cheese and red pepper flakes.

5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven,
until the bottom of the crust is browned when you lift
up the edge a little, and cheese is melted and bubbly.
Cool for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

"This is a no frills New York Pizza with heaps of
mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. Use it as a base
and add your favorite pizza toppings if you wish."

ARETHA MAY LOSE DETROIT MANSION

Aretha Franklin could lose her home. The singer says

Detroit to slip into foreclosure over $445 in 2005
taxes. The Detroit Free Press reports the Queen of
Soul owes $19,192 in back taxes on the property
through 2007. She plans to pay by a March 31 deadline.
The Wayne County treasurer's office says foreclosure
judgment for $445 was entered this month. Records show
Franklin owes $18,746 in back taxes for 2006 & 2007

'RINGS' MUSICAL 2 CLOSE IN JUNE

The lavish stage musical "The Lord of the Rings" will
close July 19, 13 months after opening. Producers
announced that the show, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's
fantasy saga, will close after 492 performances @
Theatre Royal. With a budget of $24 million, "Rings"
is one of the most expensive musicals ever produced.
It had its world premiere in Toronto in March 2006,
but closed 6 months later. It was trimmed and reworked
for its London run, but still failed. While a year is
a respectable run, the show's predecessor @ Theatre
Royal, "The Producers," ran twice as long. Producers
say talks were under way to take the show to Germany.
A touring version is being developed to open in New
Zealand before going to Australia and east Asia.

NICK MOVES INTO MEGAMALL PARK

The Mall of America's indoor amusement park, 7 acres
of fun and games, is now the domain of Nickelodeon.
After a $25M makeover, SpongeBob and Dora now greet
visitors to the park, which has its grand opening
Saturday with an appearances by Ashlee Simpson. The
debut gives Nick its first standalone theme park. For
the megamall, this fills a void left by Snoopy. Nick,
which is expanding into cruises and developing a
lodging resort with Marriott, has had Nick-branded
zones in theme parks before but never a full park.
Camp Snoopy operated in the center of the Mall of
America for 13 years, from the mall's opening in 1992.
For the past 2 years, the mall kept generic amusement
rides going as "The Park at MOA." Just over a year
ago, Nick was announced as the new theme park tenant.

CLOONEY GROUP SAVES FOOD PROGRAM

George Clooney's humanitarian organization has donated
$500,000 to a U.N. food aid agency to continue flights
in Sudan's Darfur region, the agency said. The World
Food Program said the money came from Not On Our
Watch, founded by Clooney & other stars - including
Brad Pitt & Matt Damon. The group has raised more than
$9.3 million. Earlier this week, World Food Program
warned that lack of funds would force a halt flights
of needed supplies in the region at the end of March.
"This is a critical time for the program. Without
immediate additional funding, humanitarian aid in the
region will be crippled," Clooney said. Over the past
year, World Food Program has fed 2 - 3 million people
in Darfur. The number in need could double with the
May-October rainy season.

LAST 'POTTER' WILL BE 2 FILMS

Harry Potter was the center of 7 novels, but he'll
star in 8 films. The final book will be made into 2
films, LA Times reported. J.K. Rowling's last "Potter"
installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,"
will be split into 2 parts. The first film is slated
for 2010, with part 2 in May 2011. "It was born out of
purely creative reasons," producer David Heyman told
the Times. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove
elements of this book." The final "Potter" films will
be shot concurrently, like J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord
of the Rings." Another Tolkien tome, "The Hobbit," is
being split into 2 live-action movies set for
back-to-back shooting next year. Filming on the sixth
"Potter" flick, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince," began in September. The films made $4.5B @
worldwide BO.

REDFORD WORRIES ABOUT THE RIVER

No one twisted Robert Redford's arm to get him to
narrate an IMAX film about the Grand Canyon. Redford,
an environmentalist, has navigated the Colorado River
and has a boat on Lake Powell. He worries about water
conservation as a drought threatens the region. "Its
volume is shrinking because of a megadrought cycle
that's now facing the Southwest, and some scientists
predict that it could last into the next century,"
said Redford. The issues affecting the river, source
of water for 27 million in 7 states, are addressed in
"Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk 3D," which
opens Friday. Follows environmentalist Robert Kennedy,
Jr., and anthropologist Wade Davis - accompanied by
daughters, Kick Kennedy & Tara Davis - as they explore
the river with Native American guide Shana
Watahomigie.

EA'S TAKE-TWO BID NOW HOSTILE

Electronic Arts's $2 billion bid for "Grand Theft
Auto" maker Take-Two Interactive turned hostile as EA
took its offer direct to shareholders. Take-Two has
rejected the bid since late February. Its board asked
shareholders to wait while it reviews the offer. The
$26-per-share bid was 50% above Take-Two's stock price
before EA's bid became public. Take-Two said the offer
doesn't value the company's talents - most notably
Rockstar Games. Buying Take-Two would give EA access
to some of the industry's strongest properties, not
only "Grand Theft Auto" but also "BioShock." Take-Two
sports, which hasn't been making money, is valuable to
EA because it would give the publisher of "Madden NFL"
a near-monopoly on sports games. EA's offer for
Take-Two follows Vivendi SA's plan to buy Activision.

MORE LEGAL TROUBLE 4 'GUITAR HERO'

Activision asked a federal court to declare "Guitar
Hero" does not violate a patent by Gibson Guitar.
Gibson's patent covers a device including a headset
with speakers. Gibson wants Activision to stop selling
"Guitar" until it gets a license. Activision says it
doesn't need a license. "We disagree with the
applicability of their patent and would like a legal
determination on this," George Rose, Activision said.
Dispute arose when Gibson sent Activision a letter
accusing it of violating a patent titled "System and
Method for Generating & Controlling a Simulated
Musical Concert Experience." Patent describes a device
that "simulate participation in a concert by playing
musical instrument and wearing a head-mounted 3-D
display that includes stereo speakers." "Guitar" users
play a plastic guitar connected to a game console.
