Another sudden illness silences a top country star

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Hank Thompson Retires Due To Illness

Country Music Entertainer Hank Thompson began his Sunset Tour after seven decades of a tremendous career creating country music.

Due to illness, Thompson announces the close of the tour and his official retirement.

According to Heart of Texas Records President Tracy Pitcox, "Mr. Thompson would like to thank all of his fans and friends for making his life a pleasure."

Thompson made his first recording "Whoa, Sailor" in 1946, and has sold over 60 million records.

Thompson was the first country music artist to record a live album in Las Vegas. He was also the first country music entertainer to record in seven consecutive decades.

His hit recordings include "The Wild Side of Life" "Humpty Dumpty Heart" "Green Light" "On Tap, In The Can Or In The Bottle" and "A Six Pack To Go." Thompson was recently in the studio working on a new project.

In 1989, Thompson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee.
