The case of the smoking modem
Five days old and starting to smoke.Everyone knows smoking will kill ya.Well that's not even funny
but it's exactly what happened. I was starting to work on Mondays Funnies when I smelled a funny sort of hot smell, looked up just in time to see a tiny bit of smoke arise from the modem. That was it ,She was gone. So I took my licks and called tech support. 90 minutes later , after we played do this do that to Bessie   4.
I said enough.I surrender, I can't take it any more. Please send me a new modem.
Got it yesterday Bessie  4  didn't
like it at all.I had to start over. Then I got this brilliant idea.System restore, it fixed about 90% ,then I fixed the rest.So were ready to go again.

Our city-bred teacher brought some eggs into class in our country school and told us we'd soon witness the hatching of our own chicks. We watched in anticipation after they were settled in their nest of straw under lamps, but by the weekend they still hadn't hatched. We arrived back on Monday morning full of curiosity, hoping we had chicks. We didn't, and they were now overdue.

Later that day we overheard our teacher discussing the situation with his colleague, who suggested they might be dead. "I don't understand how," our teacher said. "I even took them home on the weekend and kept them in the fridge so they wouldn't spoil."

A minister dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him
is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket and
jeans.

Saint Peter says to the guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or
not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?"

The guy replies, "I`m Joe Cohen, taxi-driver, of New York City."

Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the taxi- driver,
"Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of
Heaven."

The taxi-driver goes into Heaven with his robe and staff, and it`s the
minister`s turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am Joseph Snow,
pastor of Saint Mary`s for the last forty-three years."

Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the minister, "Take this
cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."

"Just a minute," says the minister. "That man was a taxi-driver, and he
gets a silken robe and golden staff. I get a simple cotton robe and
wooden staff. How can this be?"

"Up here, we work by results," says Saint Peter. "While you preached,
people slept; but while this guy drove, people prayed."

My wife and I were planning to serve chili at a party for her extensive family. She gave me a grocery list, and at the store I picked up the fruits, eggs and milk, and then went to the meat counter where I ordered 35 pounds of hamburger. The butcher commented: "That's a lot of meat. You must be having a heck of a party."

When I got home, I took in two bags of meat and went back to the van. I returned with two more grocery bags. After repeating this four times, I started to walk out again when my wife gave me a puzzled look. "Pete, what on earth did you buy?"

I should have kept that grocery list for evidence -- I'm sure there was no decimal point between the numbers 3 and 5.

One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short
of the active runway while a DC-8 landed.  The DC-8 landed, rolled out,
turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee. Some quick-witted
comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute little
plane.  Did you make it all by yourself?" The Cherokee pilot, not about
to let the insult go by, came back with a real
zinger:
"I made it out of DC-8 parts.  Another landing like yours and I'll have
enough parts for another one."

As a trail guide in a national park, Danny ate with the rest of the
seasonal staff in a rustic dining hall, where the food left something to
be desired.
When they were finished with their meals, they scraped the
remains into a garbage pail and stacked the plates for the dishwasher.
One worker, apparently not too happy after his first week on the
job, was ahead of Danny in line.  As he slopped an uneaten plate of food
into the garbage, Danny heard him mutter,  "Now STAY there this time."

A salesman was trying to talk a farmer into buying a bicycle, but was
meeting with considerable sales resistance.

"Shucks, I'd sooner spend my money on a cow," said the farmer.

"Ah," replied the salesman, "but think how silly you'd look riding
around on a cow."

"Humph!" retorted the farmer. "Not near as silly as I'd look trying to
milk a bicycle!"

On a visit to my wife, Tania's, native England for our honeymoon, we
arrived at London's Gatwick Airport.

Tania headed for the British passport control line while I, an American,
waited in the foreigners' line.  When my turn came up, the customs
officer asked me the purpose of my visit.

"Pleasure," I replied, smiling broadly.  "I'm on my honeymoon." The
officer looked first to one side of me, then the other.

"Really? That's very interesting, sir," he said as he stamped my
passport....

"Most men bring their wives with them."

If you haven’t read this anywhere yet, well, read it here first!

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing driver Graham Rahal, 19, will not compete in the IndyCar Series season opener this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway after his team was unable to repair damage to his car in time.

Rahal, the son of three-time CART champion and 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, damaged one of the team's new Dallara chassis in a crash at Homestead on Tuesday night during the final day of a two-day test for Champ Car teams switching to the Indy Racing League. Because former Champ Car teams just recently took delivery of their new equipment, spare parts are at a premium. A Newman/Haas/Lanigan statement said that the team will focus on rebuilding Rahal's car for a test at Sebring International Raceway on April 1, prior to the St. Petersburg street race on April 6.

Danica Patrick criticizes new IRL weight rule

Danica Patrick is listed as 5-2 and 100 pounds, which is the lightest in the IRL IndyCar Series.

What's this?
By Nate Ryan, USA TODAY
An Indy Racing League rule change has Danica Patrick feeling as if she'll be penalized for being petite — which the popular driver said wouldn't happen in other sports.
Starting this season, the minimum weight for IRL cars will include the driver, and Patrick is the series' lightest at 100 pounds according to the 2007 media guide (which lists other female drivers Milka Duno and Sarah Fisher at 120 pounds apiece; Ed Carpenter is the heaviest at 165).
"If someone's going to take the hit it's going to be me," Patrick said Thursday. "It's disappointing the league decided to do that. In so many other sports, athletes don't get penalized for being too strong, or too tall or too fast.
"(It's) just your God-given stature is being penalized. What am I going to do, though? It's not my decision. That's the people higher up (who) made their bed, and they've got to lay in it."
Patrick said she asked IRL officials about the reason for the change but said "they didn't really have one.

"I just follow the rules," she said. "Maybe I'll get more specific reasons somewhere down the line …"
IRL spokesman John Griffin said the rule was intended to reduce the difference between the lightest and heaviest drivers, which is a gap that can range from 75 to 100 pounds.
"We want to make absolutely clear this is not a Danica rule," Griffin said. "You look at guys like Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti, and they're light guys."
Griffin wouldn't disclose the cars' minimum weight but said drivers are broken into three weight classifications. The heaviest would have weight reduced from its car while the lightest would have a maximum 35 pounds of ballast added.
"It's something that had been looked at and was in the back of our minds every year," Griffin said.
Patrick admits to having had a slight speed edge from weighing less in a sport where lighter means faster. An Associated Press story in 2005 reported rival teams estimated Patrick might gain nearly 1 mph because of her weight, and Sprint Cup driver Robby Gordon said he wouldn't race Patrick in the IRL until the series equalized weights as NASCAR's premier circuit does.
Patrick hopes to put the issue behind her by winning the season-opening Gainsco 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway on Saturday.
"Let's just do that," she said with a laugh, "and then I'll say, 'Why didn't you guys do this years ago?' "
Gracious offer:
David Reutimann would give up running for a Nationwide Series championship — and a larger share of each race's purse — if the result was more money and exposure for the series' teams without Sprint Cup ties.
"The only way to truly help is to give them more money so they can hire engineers and pay for wind tunnel time," Reutimann said during a Nationwide test at Richmond International Raceway.
Reutimann, who is running both the Cup and Nationwide circuits for the second consecutive season for Michael Waltrip Racing, believes NASCAR should redistribute its prize money to Nationwide-only teams and perhaps limit Cup drivers from earning points.
"If that takes me out of a seat and gives someone else an opportunity, maybe that's not a bad thing because I needed an opportunity one time," he said. "My first race was here in Richmond with one car, one motor and barely enough money for a set of tires." Jason Keller, the career Nationwide leader in starts (428), has "mixed emotions" about points restrictions.
"The series needs Cup flavor," he said. "But David hit the nail on the head … We do need more money."

Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel recording joint album
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 – Wilie Nelson is not exatly slowing down. He is at work on a joint project iwth Texas swing band Asleep at the Wheel on a joint album. They started recording last summer at the Wheel's Texas studio and now are recording when schedules permit, according to an employee at AATW's management company.
A final song will be recorded Thursday.

The album is a covers disc of songs from the 1930's, including songs by Milton Brown. It is not clear when the CD will be done. AATW, which soon will tour Europe, previously worked with Nelson the "Last of the Breed" CD with Ray Price and Merle Haggard.

"American Idol" - Kristy Lee Cook Wows The Judges With Her Patriotic Performance
HOLLYWOOD
She's been part of the bottom three vote-getters in the last three result shows, but last night it was nothing but love from the "American Idol" judges for Kristy Lee Cook. They praised her performance of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The contestants had to pick songs from the year they were born. Simon said it was Cook's "best performance by a mile." He also said it was the most clever song choice he'd heard in years. The judges also gushed over David Cook's rendition of "Billy Jean." Simon said it was "amazing" and Randy said "you might be the one to win the whole lot." Michael Johns and Syesha Mercado also got props for their performance, as did Brooke White despite messing up her song right off the bat. The judges liked that she was able to recover from her mistake. Paula and Simon cautioned Jason Castro to start taking the competition more seriously. They say they're still looking for his wow factor. And while the judges agree David Archuleta has golden pipes, Simon panned his performance last night saying it was reminiscent of a theme park performance. He also hated Archuleta's obscure song choice, calling it a "ghastly song."

"Dancing With The Stars" - Priscilla Presley Safe For Another Week
LOS ANGELES
Priscilla Presley is safe to strut her stuff another week on "Dancing With The Stars." She made the cut on last night's double elimination show. Sent home was magician Penn Jillette. Although, he didn't take his fate quietly. He threatened to return next week and dance in the parking lot. Also given the boot was tennis champ Monica Seles.

Priscilla Presley Says She Was The Victim Of A Fake Plastic Surgeon
LOS ANGELES
Priscilla Presley is confirming that she fell victim to a phony plastic surgeon. Gossip Web sites were the first to report the story. People magazine quotes Presley's rep as saying Presley was one of many victims of the unqualified plastic surgeon and that an investigation "uncovered his misconduct," which ultimately lead to his imprisonment. The rep says Presley "dealt with this matter years ago and everything is well."

Ricky Skaggs On Lineup For Nyc Earth Day Concert

Free shows will also be staged in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco. The flagship show will be on the National Mall in Washington. Kenny Chesney Wants To Get The Next Generation Of George Straits And Reba Mcentires Closer To Their Dreams
Country Music World
Kenny Chesney wants to give local bands across America a crack at being his opening act. It's part of his Big Star Contest, where Chesney selects his opening acts in 34 markets. Chesney says he remembers how hard it can be and just wants to get the next generation of George Straits, Reba McEntires and Alabamas "closer to the dream." **** Today's Useless Fact ****

Was Marilyn Monroe's famous beauty mark real or painted on?
I don't remember her having it when she was Norma Jean Baker
.

You were right to observe that the beauty mark arrived with the transformation of chirpy, brunette Norma Jean to the blond, sultry Marilyn. The early modeling shots from the 1940s show no beauty mark. If it was artificial, however, Marilyn was nothing if not consistent. It always appeared just above her lip, along her dimple line.
Fortunately, the issue was resolved at Skinema, a fantastic site created by a dermatologist that's devoted to movie stars and their facial abnormalities. Marilyn's beauty mark was a facial mole, and was probably erased with make-up in her early career. Other famous celebrities with prominent facial moles include Robert DeNiro, Sherilyn Fenn, and Cindy Crawford.

We also learned that in piercing circles, a "Monroe" refers to a stud inserted above the lip. And as to whether Marilyn had an extra toe on her left foot, as an early publicity still seemed to indicate, the answer is no

****A Parting Thought ****
"What a wonderful life I've had! I only wish I'd realized it sooner."

Last Call Y'ALL

I had registered in a number of programs at The College of New Jersey and was looking for an option. Art, I thought, although I hadn't drawn since public school, and my husband, an accomplished artist, had been selling his paintings for years.

The year flew by and on the last day of class, I loaded all my artwork into my car. At home I pulled up to the carport. I lifted the trunk of the car, and on top of the pile was my first nude painting. That is awful, I thought, truly awful. Several nude paintings underneath it were not much better. I didn't want anybody to see these terrible paintings, and especially not my husband.

One by one the masonite boards reverberated with a loud crack as I broke each painting into four pieces and dropped them into the garbage can.

Several days later my neighbor stopped me in a store. "Say, Nancy," he said, "is someone in your house throwing out nude paintings?"

I dropped the eggs into my basket in shock. "How did you know about the nudes?"

"Well," he said, "my twelve-year-old grandson found them in your garbage, and he nailed them up on the walls of his tree house."

"The trouble with the younger generation is that most of us aren't in
it."

See y'all next week if nothing else goes wrong
