**** Country Music News **** Opinion: "The show has never kept cast performers in any kind of honorary role after their deaths." First, as the article states, "The show has never kept cast performers in any kind of honorary role after their deaths." Hank passed away on Jan 1, 1953. Only living persons can be a member of the Opry. All others are FORMER members of the Opry. They should be satisfied with that, move on and let it (and him) rest. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, the Grand Ole Opry is owned by Gaylord. The CMHOF is not owned by Gaylord, but rather the Country Music Foundation (and Country Music Association). Where's the correlation? Gaylord is not connected to that. Why picket the CMHOF when it has nothing to do with the Grand Ole Opry? Just my humble opinion. Tracey K * Suzy Bogguss Offers Blueprint For Musical Success In the Digital Age Appears in National TV Commercial Builds Relationship with A Prairie Home Companion, Joins Tour Nashville, Tenn.—Talented singer/songwriter Suzy Bogguss is blazing a new path with her music and her career. In this post-digital, iPod-fueled musical landscape, she’s driving CD sales and selling concert tickets the old fashioned way—by building relationships. It’s a blueprint for success that includes interacting with her fans through her website, aligning herself with meaningful sponsorships and forging bonds with like-minded musical luminaries such as Garrison Keillor and the folks at A Prairie Home Companion (PHC). Her latest CD Sweet Danger earned rave reviews when it was released last fall and led to several appearances on A Prairie Home Companion. The relationship between the sweet-voiced singer and PHC continues to grow stronger with her recent invitation to join the PHC Rhubarb Tour 2008 for 17 shows in 21 days this August and September. A savvy business woman from her earliest days on the coffee-house circuit, Bogguss has always had an innate knack for building relationships and creating mutually beneficial marketing partnerships. She continues to add to her promotional arsenal through national media appearances and sponsorships. The buzz around Sweet Danger began because of Bogguss’ fearless exploration of the boundaries of jazz, folk and country. The buzz continues to grow because of her willingness to diversify the ways she gets her music in front of a national audience. That includes a stellar appearance on Good Morning America on Jan. 1, 2008 and a national media campaign as spokesperson for SinuCleanse, the innovative Neti Pot nasal washing system that provides relief to those suffering from sinus problems. The campaign features a TV clip with Bogguss singing her own composition “One Clear Moment” from the Sweet Danger CD, and singing the praises of the benefits she’s received from SinuCleanse. The commercial is set to air beginning March 31 in 18 major markets, and will introduce her music to an audience that otherwise might never have heard it. Fearless in making her music, fearless in marketing her music—Suzy Bogguss is successfully navigating the waters of the digital music age. The doors that continue to open for her are testament to her boundless energy, unflappable spirit and wildly creative nature. It’s proof that great music and great musicians are as vital as ever, no matter how they get their music to their audience. ### Suzy Bogguss Appearances on The Rhubarb Tour 2008 8/10 Washburn, WI Lake Superior Big Top Chatauqua 8/12 Lewisburg, WV West Virginia State Fair 8/13 Indianapolis, IN Indiana State Fair 8/14 Bismarck, ND Bismarck Civic Center 8/15 Seattle, WA Marymoor 8/16 Santa Barbara, CA Santa Barbara Bowl 8/17 Des Moines, IA Iowa State Fair 8/19 Salt Lake City, UT Red Butte Gardens 8/20 Denver, CO Red Rocks 8/21 Ocean Grove, NJ The Great Auditorium 8/23 Essex Junction, VT Champlain Valley Expo - taped for Broadcast 8/24 Gilford, NH Meadowbrook 8/26 Sante Fe, NM Sante Fe Opera 8/27 Salem, OR Oregon State Fair 8/29 Minneapolis, MN Minnesota State Fair - Broadcast Suzy's Website Suzy's MySpace * "The Celebrity Apprentice" - Trace Adkins Loses Celebrity Apprentice Title To Brit Piers Morgan NEW YORK Trace Adkins got fired. Morgan's team raised more money than Adkins, while Adkins' team sold more tickets. Trump called his decision the toughest thing he has had to do in a long time. He told Adkins he ended up with a number one single and called him a "special human being. A beautiful guy." Morgan won $250,000 for his charity, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Sara Evans engaged to Ala. talk show host By BEVERLY KEEL • March 25, 2008 Sara Evans is engaged to marry Birmingham talk show host Jay Barker, her publicist, Lori Genes, has confirmed. "The couple are enjoying their engagement and look forward to their upcoming nuptials," Lori says. A wedding date has not been set. The couple have been dating since last fall. Jay, who has four children, is a former University of Alabama quarterback. Sara garnered national headlines when she pulled out of ABC's Dancing with the Stars in October 2006 after filing for divorce from Craig Schelske. Her divorce was final in September 2007. Atkins says country fans are smart Rodney Atkins says the country music industry has underestimated its fans. "The country music listener is intelligent," he said. "I think country music went through a white-trash period . . . for a minute. I told my manager, 'Man, I just don't get that.' "The smartest guy I know is my next-door neighbor, and I know doctors and professors," he said. "My brother-in-law is a rocket scientist who has worked for NASA. But the smartest guy I know is my next-door neighbor, and he's a mechanic at Averitt Express. "I said, 'That's my audience. That is who I want to sing to and that's who will relate to my music.' That's the regular world out there that I want to reach." It's a philosophy that has obviously paid off for Rodney, who just celebrated his fourth consecutive No. 1 from the same album. His latest hit, "Cleaning This Gun," is the humorous tale of a father's conversation with his teenage daughter's date: "I'll see you when you get back/Bet I'll be up all night/Still cleanin' this gun." Two of his previous No. 1s from the album If You're Going Through Hell were the most-played songs of the year — "Watching You" in 2007 and the title track in 2006. His third chart-topper was "These Are My People." "This album is about where I stand, what I believe in and what my hopes are," he said. Rodney is up for six trophies at May's Academy of Country Music Awards, including male vocalist, top album, song of the year and video. He won the ACM's Top New Male Vocalist in 2007. After his 2003 debut album didn't sell well, Rodney was afraid he might not get another chance to release an album. So how has he celebrated his good fortune? "We paved the driveway," said the singer, who lives in Baxter. "I bought my wife a nicer wedding ring." Thompson will return to acting Fred Thompson might not be the next president, but he can play one on TV. "William Morris announced that they've signed big Fred to do TV and movie roles," TMZ reported. "Of course, there's still buzz that he could be cast in the role of veep for John McCain."Of course, that real-life supporting role would require the actor to take a pay cut. ...
