I always know God won't give me more than I can handle,
but there are times I wish He didn't trust me quite so much.

God, grant me the Senility to forget the people
I never liked ,
The good fortune to run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight to tell the difference.

resemblance to the first." - Ronald Regan

 The dental hygienist was giving her pep talk about frequent
brushing and flossing, the latter being something I have some
difficulty doing consistently.
I couldn't resist saying, "An old dog can't learn new tricks."
"He can if he wants to keep his teeth," she quickly replied.

My teenage son was in such a hurry to try out his new surfboard
that, oblivious of the warning flags, he dashed straight out into
the waves. Immediately, an authoritative voice boomed, "You
are an inexperienced surfer. Return to shore."
Embarrassed, he came ashore but not without asking the
lifeguard how he knew he was a novice. "Easy. You've got
your wet suit on backwards."

When Sarah, a sweet nineteen-year-old girl who temporarily lived
with our family, applied for a job at the local bank she was called
back for a personal interview.
"How did the interview go?" I asked when she returned home.
"It went alright at first," she said.
"At first?"
"Yeah, until the manager asked me if I was hired what would I bring
with me to the job everyday?"
"Oh, there's lots of answers—like a good attitude for starters.
Did you tell him you always have a good attitude?"
"No," Sarah confessed with a groan. "I told him I'd bring my purse."

This country is so full of opportunity. Where else can a woman hire
another woman to do her housework, so that she can volunteer at the
Day Care Center where the cleaning woman leaves her child?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A young woman was suffering badly from hay fever. She was going to
a fancy dinner party that night and figured she would need at least two
handkerchiefs to get her through the evening. She didn't have any pockets,
so she stuffed them both in her bra.
Halfway through the night, she had already used up one handkerchief
and was rummaging around in her bra for the other one. She was having
trouble finding it, and soon she noticed that everyone at the table was
looking at her.
"What on earth are you doing?" asked one of her colleagues.
She replied, "I could have sworn I had two when I arrived".
Our friend Ernie was hospitalized with severe gall bladder pain.
Being admitted at a particularly hectic time, the staff inadvertently
forgot to place the nurse call button beside him.
When the pain became excruciating—too overwhelming to get up
and look for the button—our friend used Yankee ingenuity. Ernie
picked up the phone, dialed the hospital's main number, and
asked for the nurses's station on his floor. Explaining his
situation and giving them his room number, help came
immediately. For the rest of his hospital stay, Ernie received
first-class service.
After a two-week vacation, a man returned to his office and one of his fellow workers asked him what kind of time he'd had. "I spent the whole two weeks helping my wife paint the rooms in our house," he groaned. "Does she do that often?" "Well," he replied, "when we moved in a few years ago, the guest room was nine by twelve. Now it's eight by eleven!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our friend, who had just turned 60, was doing some spring planting with the help of his 91 year-old father. When the older man began to put up beanpoles in straight lines, the son suggested that stacking them tepee- style was better. A disagreement arose. "Dad," our friend finally said, sighing, "this is my garden, and I want to use the tepees." The father threw down his hoe and stomped off towards the house. "You kids!" he snorted over his shoulder. "Turn sixty and think that you know everything!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little Johnny wanted to go to the zoo and pestered his parents for days. Finally his mother talked his reluctant father into taking him.
"So how was it?" his mother asked when they returned home.
"Great," Little Johnny replied.
"Did you and your father have a good time?" asked his mother.
"Yeah, Daddy especially liked it," exclaimed Little Johnny excitedly, especially when one of the animals came racing home at 30 to 1!"
For decades, anyone living within five or six miles of the hat factory
in Denver, Pennsylvania, set their clocks and watches by the sirens
the factory set off five days a week. At 5:30 a.m., the wake-up siren
would begin the day followed by the starting, lunchtime, and quitting
sirens at the designated times.
When the siren system was eventually disbanded, a friend of mine
was reminiscing with the timekeeper about his job. "What did you
use to determine the exact time?"
With a twinkle in his eye, the man reached in his pocket and pulled
out a child's Mickey Mouse watch.
The Browns Back on Charts with New All-Hits CD
Toured With Elvis, Appeared On American Bandstand & Ed Sullivan
The sweet sounds of The Browns — Maxine, Jim Ed and Bonnie— are once again swirling across America thanks to the impact of their new Collector's Choice album, The Complete Hits Of The Browns.
Released just weeks ago, the album has risen to No. 3 on the Collector’s Choice Top 10 charts, outselling such popular packages as Frank Sinatra’s Nothing But The Best and Frankie Valli’s Solo/Timeless.
Unlike previous albums, this new package contains all 21 of The Browns’ major hits, including “The Three Bells,” “Here Today And Gone Tomorrow,” “Looking Back To See,” “I Take The Chance,” “The Old Lamplighter,” “Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair),” “Send Me The Pillow You Dream On” and “I Heard The Bluebirds Sing.”
Accompanying the album are archival photos of The Browns and detailed liner notes from the eminent country music historian, Colin Escott, who won a Grammy for producing the album The Complete Hank Williams.
Formed in their native Arkansas in the early 1950s, The Browns went Top 10 in 1954 with their first single, “Looking Back to See.” They became regular cast members of the Louisiana Hayride just in time to welcome Elvis Presley to that historic live radio show. For the next two years, they toured with Elvis Presley. Later, they moved on to The Ozark Jubilee network television show and from there to the Grand Ole Opry.
In 1959, The Browns became one of the most in-demand acts in music via their recording of “The Three Bells.” The song was No. 1 for 10 weeks on the country charts and topped the pop charts for four weeks. It even climbed to No. 10 on the rhythm & blues listing. The song also earned The Browns guest appearances on such wildly popular TV programs as The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand and transformed them into an international sensation.
The fabled trio disbanded in 1967—the sisters intent on raising their families and Jim Ed determined to carve out a solo recording and performing career.
Maxine Brown chronicled The Browns’ remarkable life in show business in her bestselling memoir, Looking Back to See, from the University of Arkansas Press.
Eddy Arnold's "To Life" Stretches Chart Success Into Seventh Decade
Eddy Arnold's song, "To Life," will chart on Billboard's country airplay chart this week, stretching his chart success into a seventh consecutive decade. Arnold recorded the song for his final RCA album, released in 2005. The label had planned to honor Arnold on his 90th birthday on May 15 by asking radio stations to help chart the single. However, he died on May 8. Arnold charted 147 country singles, including "Make the World Go Away," "I'll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms)," "Anytime" and "Cattle Call." He earned more Top 10 hits (92) and more consecutive Top 10 hits (67) than anyone in country history. Arnold is ranked as Billboard's No. 1 country artist of all time.
And I can't help but think of all the country radio people of today, and all the young country stars that have no idea how important it is to always continue to keep the legends alive by our lifetime of playing and respecting their great recordings because someday they will be old and grey hoping people in country don't forget them!
Yes! Today our life is but a moment and then forgotten! Why? Because that's life.
It has always been that way! Famous people who have worked hard through the years are forgotten as time ticks onward. It's a real shame isn't it?
Sir Eddy Arnold is truly a great legend of country music and every radio station claiming to be country should stand and applaud this great talent, with an expression of airtime play of his last resent recording. Yes, play some of his older greats, but, play his unheard new CD that just came out! Don't just play his old music!
You young recording artist, stars that will someday be legends of country, tell radio that country people do want to remember their country heritage by continuing to give tribute to the legends by always playing their last, and latest recordings up to, and beyound their leaving town like Sir Eddy Arnold just did! After all, you young stars would want radio to remember you that way, yes? Or do you want country people someday to ignore your great recordings? Put yourself in Sir Eddy Arnolds family, friends and fans shoes, sort-of-speak, and you will feel a sadness they are experiencing because nobody in country radio seems to care about this legend's new recorded country music, by not playing even one of the latest songs on his CD! We are lucky if they will play an old song of Sir Eddy Arnold's music!
I'm only fifty six years of age, my whole life in country, and I feel so sad that this respect is gone with the wind faster than ever before! Never in time has it been more greedy, selfish, unkind, hateful, dishonorable, disrespectful, in one generation than it is true of today's country people who are in control of the mass media! And it sickens be to no end how country people don't complain to radio for not giving Sir Eddy Arnold a royal honorable send off that he most truly disserves and is owed because of his many years in this great country! What is the matter with you people? Has your God given love for our country music heritage gone up in smoke with the burning fire within you?
This is Sir Eddy Arnold we are talking about here!
I'm sorry. I guess I got carried away here in my thoughts. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I respect our country music heritage to much. After all, what could country people really do to force country radio to play some of "Sir Eddy Arnold's" NEW CD music. These corporate media companies only think of their profits, and they really have no feelings like we do?
So all you young stars of country music, remember, "OUR LIFE IS BUT A MOMENT AND THEN FORGOTTEN", and as for Sir Eddy Arnold, may he rest in peace. And to all his family, friends and fans, may you be comforted to know, my heart and mind is with you and yours on this year of pain and sorrow on missing a legend who will not be forgotten in my family.
A lot different than people
Coyotes are extremely loyal to their mates. If one is caught
in a trap, the other will bring small game for it to eat; it will
soak itself in a river to allow its thirsty mate to chew on its
damp fur for water. It has been documented that the free
coyote will stay with its captive partner until death.
6 oz Cherries, tart, dried
3 tbsp Brandy, 80 proof, Calvados
1 lb medium apple (tart )
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp cardamom, ground
1 Crust, pie, all ready, refrigerated dough, 9"
2 Meanwhile, peel and core the apples; slice thinly lengthwise.
Sprinkle apples with lemon juice and cardamom. Combine
macerated cherries and apples.
3 Roll out dough into a large, ragged circle about 14 inches
the edge. Place the apples and cherries in the prepared dish,
mounding slightly in the middle. Bring pastry up and over apples
and cherries. (It will not quite cover fruit.) Sprinkle with sugar.
4 Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is brown and filling is
bubbling.
**** Today's Useless Fact ****
What is the most frequently visited tourist attraction in the U.S.?
This question proved trickier to answer than we first thought. But our search eventually lead us to the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) web site, listed in the LUKOL directory. ASTA's spring 2003 Hot Spots Survey shows that Orlando, Florida, is the number one U.S. travel destination.
We found the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau site, which offers extensive reports on the area's tourism industry.
According to the Bureau's Domestic Leisure Visitor Profile, "visiting a theme/amusement park was the most popular activity" for U.S. travelers to Orlando. Also on this site, a report from the Amusement Business Magazine and the Orlando Business Journal put Disney World's Magic Kingdom at the top of the attraction attendance list with an estimated 15.4 million visitors in 2003. Disney World's Epcot Center, the Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom fill the next spots on the attendance list.
While none of these sites came right out and said it, judging from this data, we think it's pretty safe to say that the home of Mickey Mouse and friends gets the most visitors of any U.S. tourist attraction.
