Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Plastic Bags
I have found 100 uses for zip-lock bags.  I used them to organize my
husband's stereo cords.  I put reciepts in them and tuck them in a drawer.
I put all the mementos from the hospital for each child in them - cards,
belly-button clip, etc.  Birthday candles and sprinkles are in one in the
cupboard.  They're great, because you can see what's in them, they're
compact when you squish out all the air. -- Brandie, 28, from Alberta

Cut Your Grocery Bill and Feed the Hungry, Too!
Shoppers in several states can take advantage of our free, volunteer website
called Cut Out Hunger.  We match the best grocery deals with newspaper
grocery coupons to help shoppers save money and time doing the research.
The site is free because we want to help shoppers find great deals for
charity--hunger is a crisis everywhere in the US.  One in 5 children go
hungry on a regular basis in OUR country.  Take a look:
www.cutouthunger.org.  The site started 3 years ago in Atlanta, California
was added 9 months ago, and now we are working to add the top 10 markets in
the US with volunteer help. -- Stephanie, 40, from GA

Holiday Decorating
Drop a tealight candle in your cleaned out glass mayonnaise jars, tie a
holiday ribbon around the neck, and you have a beautiful candle with xmas
charm. You could nestle the candle in peppermints, nuts, or even sand if you
wish. Try grouping several together for a dramatic evening effect. These
also make great luminaries. -- This idea came from:

Fun for You and Your Kids:  Dough Ornaments

2 cups flour
1 cup of salt
2 tablespoons of Vegetable oil
1/3 - 1 cup water

Mix flour and salt together.  Add oil. Add water until flour becomes dough
like. Cut dough with cookie cutters.  Be creative.  Add ornament holder
(Those metal tree hangs) by sticking it through the top of ornament so it is
in the dough and concealed.  Or puncture dough with ice pic and after
backed, add ribbon (hang on tree from ribbon). Put on cookie sheet and bake
for about an hour (sometimes more) on 250. Remove from oven and let cool.
When cool, paint (make sure you use gloss craft paint, or metallic, they
yield the best results).  You can add wiggly eyes, and be creative. We write
our family's name on the back and year. We give out over 100 a year, and my
cost is under 5 dollars.  They are great for teachers, doctors, therapists,
mail men, family members. -- Julie de Rose, CA

Stay at Home Mom Survey 2003

  Name: Madeleine
  Age: 38
  Number of Children: 7
  Household Income: $60,000.00
  Monthly Housing Payment:  $1000.00
Current Market Value of House: $175,000

Sacrifices:
We have both had to sacrifice the extras in life, many of those
things are really just the material things anyway. I sacrifice having
anytime to myself, from the moment I wake in the morning until 11:00 p.m. I
have children issues to deal with.

Budget:
Yes I have a budget, but it is really just a guideline as it is
difficult to keep with lots of unforseen things coming up all of the time. I
came up with with my budget by keeping all my receipts for a couple of
months and then itemizing them i.e. groceries, gas, clothing etc. then I added
up what I spent in those 2 months. It gave me a realistic look at what it
really costs to live.

Advice:
Most people don't understand why we have or would want such a large
family and usually voice their opinion that we should think about stopping.
Advice to moms who want to stay home, first of all if you can try to live on
1 income even when you have 2, you will get a good feel for what needs to be
cut out of your spending, also it will give you some reserve money for that
rainy day. Even if you find that hard but you really want to stay home, do
it anyway. Where there is a will there is a way, the window of time in
raising your children when they are little closes very quickly, too fast to
give those days to someone else to enjoy. You will never get a second chance
to have those days back, but you can always get a job or pursue a career
later. My own mother began a very successful career at age 40 after many
years at home.
