Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Cooking Decorating
Instead of buying expensive, fancy gadgets to decorate cookies, I use
different sized baby medicine droppers and baby spoons (both sides).  It
really works well and is a breeze to clean, with very little mess.  It's
also fun for my sons to finish the last bit of "medicine".  You know what
they say, a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down!  -- Shelley, 37,
from MI

Teacher's Gifts
Last Christmas, my three year old daughter and I glued torn pieces of red,
green, yellow and blue tissue paper onto the outside of cleaned out
babyfood/condiment/etc. jars, put a tea light candle inside, decorated the
lid with ribbon and gave these as gifts to her Sunday School teachers.  The
tissue paper has a wonderful stained glass look and my daughter really
enjoyed making them.  We made a few for our house, too! -- Carmen, 31, from
TX

Gift Giving
One money saving tip that I am using for my 4 children this year is taking
them to the dollar store and letting them shop there for people on their
list. It is helping them feel like they can buy anything in the store they
want for the person they are shopping for. Grandma and grandpa won't mind
the cheap gifts because they really don't need anything anyway and could buy
it themselves if they did. The last thing my family wants is for us to spend
all of our money on gifts they might not want anyway.  It is really nice for
me too because as the cheapie toys get broken and lost it is a lot easier to
part with than a toy that cost $50, and they seem to like them just as much!
This also helps eliminate the holiday toy clutter we get with a large
family. -- Stacy R., St. Cloud, MN

Gift Wrap
Save money on wrapping paper by using the comic pages from the newspaper.
The kids usually like this, plus you save money on expensive wrapping paper
and you can use it for almost any occasion.  If you prefer to use actual
wrapping paper, stock up on it during the after Christmas sales.  Most
stores usually sell it for a few weeks after the holidays at huge
discounts. -- Paula, 32, from FL

Teacher's Gift Ideas:  Gifts to Make

*Loaves of poppy seed bread or banana bread or cookies

*Brownie in a jar - I have a recipe for all the dry ingredients. You put
them in a mason jar and it looks like sand art. Then you add a note with the
instructions of what to add (egg, oil) and the baking instructions. This is
good if you don't bake.

*Note cards - I bought plain cards and envelopes, and a pretty stamp. The
boys helped me stamp the design on the front of the cards. I tied up about
10 for each teacher with a ribbon.

*Individual note to each teacher was mentioned a lot by teachers that I
asked.

*Make bookmarkers with child's quotes about each teacher, a picture and hard
laminate. Made christmas necklaces last time.

*Go to a Pottery painting place and decorate mugs/plate etc.

*Stationery - take artwork from your child's cache of 'fine art' and make
into stationery. Can be done at Kinko's Printed it on nice heavy stock
(ivory is nice) and w/ivory envelopes - cards were under $1 piece and make
great gift for grandparents/aunts etc thru-out the year.

*A handprint on a piece a paper with a note served as the card or a
bookmark. -handpainted containers and fill them with stickers. Teachers are
always using stickers during class and that can get expensive, so I like to
renew their supplies.
-- AK

This year the I found coffee mugs for $.69 each and I am making instant hot
cocoa and putting the package with direction in each mug. This is going to
all of the "other" teachers" ie PE teachers, music teachers, volin lession
instructor, art teacher, special classes instructors, etc. The main teachers
are getting terra pots painted blue and the statement let it snow with a
snow man it. -- Patti

What's Cookin': Tuna Casserole

One can of cream of mushroom soup
One can of peas, drain
One box of mac and cheese, prepared

Mix all together. Add alittle salt and pepper, maybe some milk. Put in 350

still my favorite. -- Jen, 30, from IN

Real Moms:  Best Bargain Ever

I needed baskets for gift baskets I am making for Christmas.  I went to
Michael's and they had "Fall" baskets at 90% off.  I got 11 baskets that
should have been $140 for $14!  I was very excited.  I didn't want to spend
a whole lot of my gift baskets but was afraid I was going to put most of my
money into the baskets.  The most expensive basket I bought that day was
$1.59! -- Jody, 30, from MN

My best bargain ever was my $900+ wedding dress for $69.12!! I got it on
Ebay, it was brand new in manufacturer packaging and had never even been
tried on!!! -- Sarah, 28, from MI

I wanted Pfaltzgraff Christmas dishes for so long, but it seemed silly to
spend so much on something you would only use for a few weeks out of the
year.  Well, my sister lives near a Pfaltzgraff Clearance Outlet, and in
February of last year, she got everything imaginable from my favorite
Christmas pattern at a HUGE discount.  I have place settings for 12,
glasses, platters, gravy boat, cream and sugar, everything.  I got over
$1,800.00 worth of dinnerware for $162.55!! -- Natalie, 26, from PA

Fun for You and Your Kids:  Cotton Ball Snowman

You'll need:
Cotton balls
Clear contact paper
Construction paper
Scissors
Stapler

Cut three circles from clear contact paper.  The circles should be in three
different sizes ranging from a diameter of 1 1/2-2 inches to 4 1/2-5
inches.  Staple the contact paper, backing side up, to the construction
paper to form a snowman shape.  Your child can peel off the backing and
stick cotton balls to the contact paper to cover the snowman.  If you like,
cut additional snowman features such as a hat or carrot from construction
paper and glue to the snowman.
