Mommysavers Newsletter - December 4, 2006 Visit our site for more great resources: http://www.mommysavers.com "You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." -- Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet ============================================================== Hello! We got our Christmas tree yesterday the old fashioned way by visiting a tree farm and cutting it down ourselves. Everything was great until about 9:00 last night when we heard a crash as it fell over. It's not looking as festive this morning leaning against a wall waiting for a bigger tree stand! Hope you all have a better handle on the holidays than I do! :) Have a great week, Kim ------------------------------ Please Visit Our Sponsors: A craft of the month club subscription makes a fun, affordable gift for that special child in your life. Submitted by Christy from Enid, OK Christy writes, "Ty's first exposure to the snowy side of winter" http://www.mommysavers.com Hip Mom Rules: Keep Your Cool I can handle being pooped on, spit-up on, vomited on, and cried on. A hip mom is a patient mom. But there are days when even the most patient mom is tested. http://www.mommysavers.com/moms-coffee-break/hip-mom/keep-your-cool.shtml Home for the Holidays Contest Win a $50 American Airlines travel voucher courtesy of the Nativity Story and Mommysavers! Besides buying things like milk and eggs, we could live off our grocery supply for an entire month! We're going to be following a "use it up" strategy the next couple months to offset holiday purchases. -- Username Kim Me too (using grocery stockpile) and I've been going to allrecipes.com and you can do a search for recipes using the ingredients you have and/or don't have! It's pretty cool! -- Username Shabin http://mommysavers.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=4 Recycling Holiday Cards Each year I save up the Christmas cards that we receive from friends and family. I take the fronts of the cards off and throw away the other half (where friends have signed a personal message). I then use a pair of my scrapbooking scissors and give the fronts a nice edge. When that is complete, I glue them to card stock that I have bought at Hobby Lobby or Michael's with my 40% off coupon (50 cards for $4.00 plus the coupon). I then use my scrapbooking and stamping supplies to give the cards my personal touch. This year we'll have the boys help us with the envelopes. All my cards are completely finished and mailed for under $8.00. -- Username Christy_K_ Applesauce/Cinnamon Ornaments I made some a couple of months ago using 3/4 cup applesauce and an almost 4 oz bottle of cinnamon (.50 at Walmart). I just let them air dry for a few days and turned them over daily. They smell so good while drying! This month, let's post our favorite holiday dessert recipe. I know there have to be a TON of great ones out there! http://www.mommysavers.com/boards/showthread.php?p=111693#post111693 How to Live Simply I was wondering how to go about making the big switch and helping the rest of the family make the transition. I have 3 boys...12,5,2 and a DH. We live quite comfortably, but want to take on the "simple living" lifestyle. What are the first and most important steps? What is stockpiling? What is the best way to go about making a budget. Is there a difference between simple living and just being cheap? LOL! Help please! http://mommysavers.com/boards/showthread.php?t=12251 Spending Less Support Group: December Challenge lets try again this month to plan out all our meals, and really keep track of spending! I'm hoping if I plan my menu for the week, my chances of eating out, or grabbing something on the run will be a lot less. I'm also going to plan snacks and store some in the car for the kids so that way I won't be tempted while we are at the mall. As far as spending I am going to give myself a set amount and when it's gone it's gone. What are everyone else's goals for this month? http://www.mommysavers.com/boards/showthread.php?t=12196 Can't Keep Living This Way I am sick and tired of watching every dollar. It;s fun to get a deal but its not so fun when you can't buy it if it's not a deal. We dont live lavishly and our morgage is low for this area. I buy used whenever possible and rarely buy more than just groceries. SO why do I feel so poor? I cant keep this up for years and its starting to feel like that is the way its going to be. http://www.mommysavers.com/boards/showthread.php?t=11872 ------------------------------ Shop Mommysavers Links this Season!
