Money Saving Ideas: After Christmas Sales

When the after Christmas clearances start I always keep my eyes open
for things that would make great wedding, birthday, anniversary gifts,
etc. as well as to get a stash of wrapping paper, ribbon and bows for
those items.  Last year I got pretty plain blue, green, red and gold
paper rolls that are perfect for any occasion! I NEVER pay more than
a quarter a roll for them either! -- Pam, 40, from UT

The best after-Christmas bargains I look for are holiday-themed everyday
items, such as crackers, tissues and air fresheners. I don't care if I'm
eating snowflake shaped Ritz in March! Drugstores usually have the most
aggressive markdown schedules due to lack of space, so I visit them often
after the holidays. -- Cheryl, 39, from FL

What's Cooking:  Oreo Truffles

1 Pkg. Oreos
1 Pkg. Cream cheese
1 Pkg. Chocolate almond bark/white almond bark

Crush oreos so they resemble powder. The best way to do this is in a
zippy bag for me. Once crushed, knead the oreos with the cream cheese
into little balls with your hands. You can add a tsp. of vegtable oil
so the balls won't be lumpy. Put a toothpick in the center of each one
and put them on wax paper in the fridge for one hour.

Melt your chocolate bark, then take the oreo/cream cheese balls out of the
fridge, and dip in the almond bark and let set to harden.

Make sure you get them completely coated so they don't ooze out the bark.
Keep refrigerated. I personally like them best with the white almond bark
though the chocolate is also yummy. -- Username Brensmom

Going Against the Grain with Spending
To be frugal, sometimes we have to buck the trends to buy new cars,
big houses, and fancy clothes. In what areas do you feel like you're
going against the norm when it comes to your expenditures or lifestyle?
Are you doing this out of choice, or necessity? How does it make you feel?

Kids and Money
I've always thought that our schools don't do very much to teach kids about
spending and personal finance. This is something that really falls on the
shoulders of us as parents: to teach and model financial responsibility at
any age. What do you do to teach your kids about money and personal spending?

Fun and Creativity:  Coffee Filter Snowflakes

YOU WILL NEED:
Coffee Filter
Scissors
Blue Tempera paint
Water
Paint brush

Take some blue paint and water it down. Paint a coffee filter with the paint.
Once it dries, fold it in half. Then in half again, and then in half one more
time. Cut it like you would a snowflake. When you open it will look like a blue
tie dyed snowflake. This looks pretty hanging in a window. Kids love this project!
