"Every mother is like Moses. She does not enter the promised land. She
prepares the world she will not see." ~ Pope Paul VI

==============================================================

Hello!

I hope you all had a good holiday week.  Ours was especially great because
our entire extended family was around to celebrate with us.  It was so much
fun to see Sydney open up her gifts this year!  We also celebrated Nicholas'
baptism this past weekend.  He cried throughout the service, but it was
pretty funny.  Even our pastor was laughing.

Let the sales begin!  In the coming weeks, we will try to let you know about
all the great deals and online sales.  We found some GREAT ones on kitchen
items this week.  Save up to 90% on platters, cookware, and Tupperware.
Scroll down to see the details.

Money/Time Saving Ideas:

After-Christmas Sales
I buy a few packages of luminaries (bags with hole punched designs that
usually line drive/walkways).  I use them for gift bags the next year. You
usually get about 10 in a package for about a dollar.  I find these at
Lowe's the day after Christmas for 75% off. (The only negative-the
punch-outs are a little messy!)

I also buy boxed candy (Russell Stover type) and save it to send to
relatives at Valentine's Day as well as stock up on red candles for V-Day
gifts or a romantic dinner at home.

Also, I usually find nice jars of nuts that might have a Christmas ribbon.
I replace the ribbon and give them as birthday gifts (uncles, brother in
law) whose birthdays fall in the first few months of the new year. Also
store some in freezer bags and freeze for recipes.

And how cheap is this??  Hit Dollar Tree the day after Christmas for 50 cent
bargains!  I got plaid aprons, ribbon, pencils and small toys for stocking
stuffers, small village trees, candles, kids' gift wrap and  more. --
Allison M.

Time is money.  Before I go shopping, I call in advance to see what
percentage the store has marked down their xmas merchandise.  This is
especially helpful at Target since they mark things down very quickly, and
often have quite a large stock.  I purchase items I can use all year:  plain
wrapping paper, bows, bags, xmas pattern tissues and paper towels (who cares
about the pattern?), toys, etc. -- Delinda in Aurora, CO

Beauty
For an inexpensive eye make up remover I use my son's baby shampoo. It's
tear-free and we already have a bunch of it for my son anyhow. I just put a
very small amount on a washcloth before I go to bed at night and it even
removes waterproof mascara and eyeliner. -- Heather, 25, from NY

Cleaning
I found the best way to clean that dirty tub. It's better than plain bleach,
or even the expensive "As seen on T.V." cleaners. And you probably already
have it at home. It is Cascade dishwasher detergent. Use the liquid form, by
putting a little on the trouble areas, then rub. Works great on counter tops
too! -- Cari, 28, from TX

Real Moms:  In the Kitchen

My family's favorite dinner is chili beans and corn casserole.  The chili
beans consist of 1 lb hamburger meat, 2 cans ranch style beans, and 2 cans
stewed tomatoes. Brown meat, drain, pour in cans of beans and tomatoes, and
bring to a boil. I also add a little shredded cheese.  The corn casserole
consists of 1 can cream style corn, 1 can whole kernel corn, 1 box jiffy
corn muffin mix, 1 stick melted butter, 2 eggs, 8 oz sour cream. mix
together, preheat oven to 375. pour in a greased 9 x 13 pan, and bake for 45
min. It's wonderful. -- Sara, 23, from OK

Go through your fridge and pantry once a month and take a mental inventory
of what you have and throw out the stuff you never use or is expired. It
helps keep your kitchen clean and meals flowing easier...which helps on the
money saving too. -- Nadine, 27, from NY

Whenever I make a casserole, I try to make 2 and freeze one. -- Lisa, 41,
from IL
