"Career mothers are not kidding anybody. Being a mom is the hardest job of
all. You got to work to rest." -- Sandy Duncan

==============================================================

Hello!

This Friday I'm taking both kids to Florida to visit my parents.  It will be
a challenge flying with two little ones by myself!  We'll be so glad to just
GET there.  After enduring the Minnesota weather we'd had so far this year,
it will be great to be somewhere WARM!

Have a good week,
Kim

Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Holidays
For Valentine cookies, I cut out heart-shaped sugar cookies.  I them use a
smaller heart cookie cutter to make a smaller heart in the middle.  I then
crush the left-over from Christmas candy canes and sprinkle them in the
middle of the cookies.  Bake and you get a minty swirl in the middle of a
delicious cookie.  These have been a hit and a great way to use up all those
candy canes!! -- Jane, 36, from NJ

Winter Gear
Wonder what to do with all those wet mittens, hats & boots after the kids
have been outside playing in the snow? My grandson's daycare provider had a
clever idea I would like to share with you. She uses a shoe rack & slips the
mittens, hats and boots on the prongs that you would normally put the shoe
on. They stand up straight & dry quickly. It holds several sets & the
toddlers have fun finding their own when it's time to leave. They also enjoy
the praise & applause for choosing the correct outerwear that belongs to
them! -- Deb, 52, from MN

I use a shoe rack with clear pockets on the inside of my front closet door.
This is perfect for storing items that tend to get misplaced during the
winter, mittens, scarves, hats.  I also use it for items that we requently
take in the car, but don't necessarily leave in the car.  These are things
like walkie-talkies (when traveling with two cars), AA battery charger with
a/c adapter, CD players, dog leash.   The clear pockets allow you to see
exatly what is in each pocket.  You can even mark a row for each family
member. -- Brenda, 41, from MI

Shopping Tips

Target continues with their 75% off of shoes and slippers. I found slippers
in many fun colors and purchased for my daughter's  "sleep over" birthday
party. For $1.75 each they make a great take home gift rather than treat
bags! They also have many fun sparkly shoes under $5.00- great for dressy
occasions or for "dress up". -- Kim from MN

Valentine Ideas:

For Valentine's Day or any time of the year give homemade "Favor" or
"Coupon" tickets.  Ideas could be "This Coupon/Favor is good for One Foot
Massage" or ...Car Wash or Favorite Homemade Dinner, A Chore like cleaning
up dishes, folding laundry, etc...  Make these personal to the recipient's
preferences.  Be creative or simple.  This doesn't cost anything & is a
welcome gift.  I've made 5 or six ticket stubs & stapled them together.  My
husband keeps them in his jewelry box for safe keeping.  We've done this for
years.  From past experience, I suggest an expiration date & destroy the
ticket after it's been redeemed!  Great for kids too, I gave my 5 yr. old
son Logan a decorated sheet of paper "This ticket is good for one Logan
Day".  We did whatever he wanted to do that day.  He loved it!!  And all he
really wanted to do was stay home & play games & playdoh! -- Debbie, 34,
from PA

I made about 20 lavender hearts of paper and wrote a different something I
loved about my husband on each one.  I hid them in various places that he
would find them--inside a shoe, on his razor, in a jacket pocket.  I put
enough of them in places that he would find a bunch early on, but some he
didn't find for a few days.  It was a nice surprise and he liked the
specific loving items written on each heart. -- Genie, 40, from CA

I did this for my husband years ago when we were first married and money was
very tight.  We couldn't afford to do a whole heck of a lot just starting
out, so, I decided to give us a "Valentines Date" at home.  I took his fold
away fish house and set it up in the house, draped Saran Wrap on the floor
to give the illusion of ice and cooked a nice delicious meal.  He was
welcomed home from work with a ice house retreat!  He did the same for me
for our Thanksgiving.  Knowing that I've always wanted to see the ocean, he
got a hold of a bunch of refrigerator boxes and drew the ocean with a bon
fire on them, got a bunch of brown blankets and draped them on the floor to
make it look like a sandy beach.  When I got home that time, I was welcomed
to see the ocean and hear the waves crashing (as he bought a tape from a
store), and HE cooked a wonderful meal as well!  It was the best
Thanksgiving we had together! -- Stacie, 30, from MN

Real Moms:  In the Kitchen

Can't open a jar?  A vinyl-backed bib works well to open it up. -- Ashley,
22, from CA

My favorite kitchen hint is to put browned hamburger meat into a gallon size
ziplock freezer bag and squash it flat and stack them in your freezer.  It
takes up much less space, doesn't roll out of the freezer on you and thaws
in no time at all! -- Rebecca, 37, from KY

Add a packet of Kool-aid to one cup of sugar and put it in a zip-lock bag.
It's ready to go, just add the water.  Make as many as you can ahead of
time.  This is perfect for picnics when you don't want to transport the
liquid until you are ready to drink. -- Jennifer, 27, from OH

Fun for You and Your Kids:  Coffee Filter Art

Place the coffee filters on newspaper (to protect your table) and have your
children draw/scribble on them with markers. Spray the coffee filters with
water so the colors bleed together.  Or, have kids decorate with watercolor
paints.  When dry, cut the coffee filters into heart shapes for Valentine's
Day or bunch in the middle to create a butterfly.  These look great hanging
on a window or sliding glass door! -- Christina from CA
