Mommysavers Newsletter -- March 8, 2004 Visit our site for more great resources: http://www.mommysavers.com "A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest." -- Irish proverb ============================================================== Hello! Welcome to our new subscribers, especially those that saw Mommysavers on KARE 11 last week! I shared some baby tips on air with Pat Evans -- what a TRULY nice guy! Watch for me again in May. Nicholas has gone from getting up every 2-3 hours at night to sleeping at least 6-8 hours at a time in just one week. It has been an easy transition, with very little crying. I'm loving the extra sleep! For those of you with babies or children who don't sleep well, I highly recommend the following book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0671620991/mommysavers Have a good week! It really breaks down the tough protein-type stains like poop, milk, baby food, greasy stains, etc. For even tougher stains you can mix it with Biz (another great stain remover) or Oxi-Clean to make a paste, apply and let sit a few hours, (or even overnight) and wash with your other laundry. I have tried other dish soaps, and they work too, but not as well as the PowerPlus liquid. It's relatively inexpensive and one bottle will last a long time. -- Tyra, 25, from ND Baby Most diaper changing pads are too small for changing my toddler's diaper in a public place, and rather than spending money on disposable changing pads, I purchased a tablecloth. I cut it into generous rectangles, big enough for my child, and then I fold them up and wrap each one with a rubber band. These pack nicely, and are still cheap enough to throw away when they are really messy. -- Michelle, 28, from IL Leftover Pizza I got this tip from my mom. Instead of microwaving leftover pizza, melt a little butter in a frying pan. Place the pizza in the pan on medium heat with the lid on tightly. The steam will melt the cheese, and the butter will make the crust crispy instead of soggy. -- Kim, 33, from MN We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! No significant difference was found between store-brands (i.e. White Cloud, Loving Touch) and the premiums, however store brands can cost up to $.12 less per diaper. That adds up to $20 or more savings per month! What was the number one brand? Pampers Cruisers. The seats at the box office would cost $108 a piece. My husband and I never get out with three children but we absolutely love hockey. This is such a treat because we will be so close to the action. We have never been this close to the rink. Season ticket holders put tickets on eBay that they cannot go to so you get a great deal on great seats. -- Sara, 27, from NY Recently, 4 summer shirts for my daughter bought at Walmart. I couldn't believe the sign, 4/$1. They were adorable too! -- Lori, 40, from MA A three piece speaker system for $2.99 resold on e-Bay for $30.00! -- Chuck, 44, from WI These great hints came from our Real Mom Profiles. Here are some tips that have helped me. When I go to the store with my child we play a game. We decide what color, texture and number to look for while driving to the store. Then while we walk/stroll around the store our game makes a great way to redirect our focus. I get all of our shopping done without any emotional outbursts and my child gets to look for and feel things and also learn. I started doing this when she was very little. We used to frequent a home improvement store when my child was first born and I would have her touch all of the odd textures at the store. She loved it and it is hard to entertain an infant! I look at shopping as free education. We also let our child look at things at the store and hold them and then we say, "We need to put that back, that is for somebody else." She has never questioned it and it aleviates frustration for her. -- Amy, 31, from MN Do you have any ideas on how to keep your kids busy?
