Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Toys
I like to make egg rattles for baby gifts.  All you need is: plastic easter
eggs, easter egg shrink wraps, rice, popcorn, or small noddles and a hair
dryer. Fill the egg 1/3 full with either rice, popcorn or noddles(each one
will make a slightly different sound), close egg and slide shrink wrap over,
blow the egg with the hair dryer until shrink wrap is smooth.  The shrink
wrap keeps the egg closed so that the baby can not get the small pieces in
their mouth, and the egg is to big for the baby to choke on.  I would not
let small children do this because the hair dryer gets the egg pretty
warm.   -- Jen, 26, from MN

Multiples
When my twins were born, they were tongue-tied, which made it very difficult
to breastfeed, so we supplemented with formula until we went completely to
formula by three months. To make it easier to make two bottles at a time, I
used my "Quick-stir Pitcher" from Pampered Chef to mix formula. I could
quickly make 2 quarts of formula and leave it in the fridge to be used for
the next couple of feedings. It is also a great gift for anyone you know
that is having multiples! And now that I don't use it for formula, it is
great for Kool-Aid, iced tea or lemonade! They also now have a one-gallon
family size.  Deb, 33, from MN

Travel
We cut out the games and mazes on the back of the cereal boxes and put them
in the kids travel bag. When they are at home they never seem to want to do
them. But, in the car they argue over who gets what maze or puzzel. It saves
us money on buying activity books and I do not feel as bad about not buying
the store brands that are a little cheaper. If you get the cereal on sale it
can save you money all around. -- Laura, 41, from WY

The School Year is Ending!

Teacher Appreciation Ideas by Deborah Taylor-Hough
As the years go by, it seems to become more and
common for parents to be expected to give gifts to their
children's teachers at school.  For many families, there's
a fine line between showing appreciation and going broke.
Finding just the right gift -- at just the right price -- can be
challenging at best.

What's Cookin': Eclair Dessert

2 boxes French vanilla instant pudding
1 8oz cool whip
3 cups milk
1 box of graham crackers
3 T butter
4 T milk
6 T cocoa
2 cups powdered sugar
2 T Karo Syrup
1 tsp almond extract

Mix pudding and milk.   Fold in cool whip.  Butter 9x13 cake pan.  Layer
graham crackers, then ?? pudding mixture.  Layer graham crackers then
remaining pudding mixture and top with another layer of graham crackers.
Put in fridge.  Melt butter on low heat.  Add Karo Syrup & milk.   Stir.
Add Cocoa and stir until well blended.  Add powdered sugar.  Stir until
almost all lumps are gone.  Remove from heat and add almond extract.  Blend
well.   Pour icing over the top of graham and pudding layers.   Refrigerate
OVERNIGHT.

P.S.  I found out a little tip the last time I made this.  To keep from
having to stir and stir until all the powdered sugar lumps are gone, make
the icing first.   Set it aside.make the pudding/graham cracker layers, and
by the time this is done, the icing has cooled.  I stirred it really good,
and the lumps just disappeared. -- Pamela, 37, from IL

Real Moms:  Money Saving Tips

If I don't need it right away I will always try to find it on eBay or yard
sales.  I have yet to pay full price for something I can wait for.  We only
have a short yard sale season in PA so I try to find everything I want to
tide me over until next year. -- Courtney, 28, from PA

Make it from SCRATCH!  Stay home! You can't spend money if you are not in
the stores to see what is available.  (The internet can be a pitfall though
if you are not careful.) -- Beth, 31, from TX

Coupons from the Sunday paper.  Also shopping in bulk from Sam's Club.  I
really love Walmart.  You can't beat their prices for kids clothes or for
presents for family members. -- Dana, 31, from NJ

Baby Bargains:  Tips from our Readers

Ask your doctor's office for free formula at your baby's visit.  The
drug reps often leave more than they bother to give to clients.
They often have lots extra to spare.  -- Laurie, 34, from ME

If you're thinking of using cloth diapers and this is your first child,
don't buy any of the newborn size. Just stick with disposables during
the first couple months while you're getting used to life with a baby!
Instead, buy some small/medium cloth diapers. You can find them used
from eBay quite often, and most cloth moms keep their diapers in good,
clean condition. Then, commit to using the diapers part-time. You won't
burn out in the beginning, and you can always increase your usage when
you don't want to spend more money on disposables. It's not hard at all
to wash the diapers with your regular laundry, and in the end, it will
save your pocketbook and the environment.   -- Julie, 31, from KY

I make my own baby wipes.  Take a high quality roll of paper towels
(I use Viva, they feel so much like cloth).  Saw it in half with a
non-serrated knife and use a pliers to pull the cardboard out of the core.
Put it in an appropriately-sized storage container.  Mix 2C water with 3T
baby wash (you can add fresh aloe vera here) and pour over towel roll.
Start pulling individual sheets from the center.  Viola!  Home made baby
wipes that, in my opinion, work FAR better than top name brands!
