Mommysavers Newsletter -- June 28, 2004 Visit our site for more great resources: http://www.mommysavers.com "Cherishing children is the mark of a civilized society." -- Joan Ganz Cooney ============================================================== Hello! I'm getting the newsletter out a little late today. We had a busy weekend, and I'm just plain behind schedule! We had a fun family reunion with cousins I hadn't seen for several years. Sydney had 10 second cousins she met for the first time -- all between the ages of 5 and 10. She got to go swimming, tour a bison ranch, and ride a pony. She had a blast! Have a happy and safe 4th of July! Kim Danger ------------------------------ Please Visit Our Sponsors: ARE YOU STILL LOOKING FOR A WAY TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY?? After swimming in the pool, have your kids rinse their suits right away in the sink and hang to dry. The pool chemicals break down the fabric and elastic quickly, and fade the dye, if left to dry in the suit. -- Patti, 39, from KS Cleaning Toys The tip about the little tykes toys reminded me of what we did in the past. When getting ready to sell these large toys, trikes or big wheels etc. I took them to the self serve car wash and blasted them clean with the pressure washer. They looked almost as good as new with little work!! -- Diane, 41, from IL Feeding Baby Whenever we have a meal that our 19 month old son won't/can't eat, I had always fed him a Gerber Lil Entree. Well they are 1.75-2.00 dollars each with only six ounces of food in each. So I found these frozen meals called Michelina's 'Budget Gourmet'. They cost 98 cents at SuperWalmart. My son eats about half, so I am getting almost two meals for half the price. Hope this helps! -- Amy, 23, from GA We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! I painted the walls a solid color that was in the comforter. I can now use an overhead projector to project images of characters she likes currently onto the wall, and paint them on. When she decides she is into something else, these can be easily painted over and the whole room decor won't need changing. I also bought chalkboard paint for a portion of one wall. She can have a chalkboard that doesn't require putting holes in the wall to hang nor does it pose a threat of falling off onto her when she uses it. When she gets older, we can also paint over the current one and paint on a new one higher up according to her height. -- Kirsten, 29, from VA ----------------------------- What's Cookin': Spanish Rice A great tasting easy spanish rice dinner. All you need is one pound ground beef, 1 green pepper diced, 1/4 cup diced onion (if desired), 2 15oz. cans of tomato sauce and instant rice. Cook ground beef, green pepper, and onion and drain. Add tomato sauce. Use empty cans to add two cans full of water and two cans full of rice. Add a dash of salt and pepper. Bring to boil. Turn to low and simmer for 15 minutes and serve. -- Jennifer, 30, from IN ----------------------------- Real Moms: Funny Things Kids Do/Say It was bed time and my 2 year old was preparing to say her nightly prayers. My sister had been in a car accident recently, so I suggested to my daughter that we start praying for God's protection from accidents. She began, "Dear God, thank you for this day. Please protect me from accidents...so I don't pee in my underwear. Amen!" -- Julie, 28, from WY At our house, we love ice cream. One day I asked my 3 year old if she would like ice cream for dessert. She answers "Yes" (of course). As I am getting her bowl from the kitchen, I'm explaining that the ice cream is chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. She gets very up set and says "Then I need 3 bowls instead of one!" -- Jennifer, 31, from NC These great hints came from our Real Mom Profiles. Keep 'em coming!
