They are who they are and you have to help them to succeed in the world as best you can." -- Cyndi Lauper ============================================================== Hello! It finally feels like summer here in Minnesota, and we 'celebrated' by buying Sydney a HUGE inflatable pool. We hope to test it out later today. We have some huge family milestones this week. Scott's parents celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary today and my grandmother turns 90 tomorrow. WOW! Congratulations to them. Have a good week! Shop on a Tuesday, and then the following Tuesday the item gets marked down even lower if it's not moving. Happy Shopping! -- Laura, 44, from IL Characters I've been surprised lately at how many people buy things for their kids just because there is a character they like on it. Many products, like cereal, bandaids, toothbrushes, shampoo, toys, clothes etc. are sometimes much more expensive when there is a movie or cartoon character on it. The other day in a toy store I saw a Thomas the tank engine toy that was $20. On another shelf I saw the exact same toy, but it didn't have Thomas's picture or name on it, it was $10! A plain child's toothbrush can cost $1, but one with Buzz Lightyear on it is $2-$3! -- Julia, 32, from OH Diapering Instead of buying expensive diaper rash ointments or creams, this time of year it's really easy to find plain zinc oxide (the active ingredient in diaper rash creams). Lifeguards use all the time during the summer. It's usually a lot cheaper and I have found it to be more effective!! -- Amanda, 27, from AR We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! On a monthly basis we go to our local BJ's and stock up on meats. Between my husband grilling some cuts and me baking/saute/etc others, we can get all the meat cooked within a day or two. We then portion out meals, vaccum seal them, and dump them in our deep freezer. With baby #2 due any week now, this really helps us stock up on dinners. We can spend $60 on meats but have enough meals for 4-5 weeks. Definately recommend the deep freezer and a vaccum sealer. You can use the vaccum bags in the microwave - or throw them in a pot of boiling water to reheat the food. No dirty dishes to clean up after dinner. -- Denise, 30, from NJ For more ideas on how to save money in the kitchen, click here: http://www.mommysavers.com/cooking_on_a_shoestring.htm ----------------------------- What's Cookin': PARTY CHICKEN 8 chicken breasts, skinned 8 slices bacon, regular sliced 1 can undiluted mushroom soup 1/2 pt. sour cream 1 4-oz. pkg. chipped beef Line bottom of a glass dish (8 x 12 x 2-inches) with chipped beef. Wrap breasts with 1 piece of bacon and arrange on chipped beef. Mix soup and sour cream and pour over all. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. When ready to serve, bake 3 hours at 275 degrees. Note: Do not add salt to this recipe, the chipped beef and bacon season. This recipe is so easy and may be cut in half. This recipe also freezes well after baked.
