"It is at our mother's knee that we acquire our noblest and truest and
highest ideals" -- Mark Twain

==============================================================

Hello!

We just got back from a wonderful family weekend where we celebrated my
grandmother's 90th birthday.  My grandma still is living by herself and
participating in an active life with her friends, family, and church.  She
is amazing!  I hope I'm still kickin' at her age!  For some photos, click
here: http://www.mommysavers.com/family_photos.htm

Wow!  I just checked out one of our shopping tips, for a huge toy sale and
free ship on Amazon.com.  There are some great bargains!  I just picked out
a Barbie bike for Sydney for only $24 plus FREE shipping.  It had been $64!

Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Summer Fun
Instead of wasting so much water on a big plastic or blow-up pool, I bought
a large plastic storage container.  I fill it up in no time and my 2 yr old
has her own "pool".  I have another one for when her 6 yr old sister wants
to have some water fun.  Since their attention can be short - I don't feel
like I'm wasting as much water as I would on a pool. -- Karen, 33, from NC

Home Remedies
We all know that breastmilk makes our children healthier and can save over
$1000 in the first year but did you know you can put a little in your
child's eye if they have pink eye to help clear it up?  Or a little in their
nose if they have a sinus infection?  Or as a quick fix for a burn? --
Megan, 24, from OR

Clothing
To make my children's clothes last longer, I spray scotch guard on the knees
and back of their pants and the back of their shorts. Since we wear shorts
pretty much all year round here, I buy their shorts a bit bigger and they
usually last a full year without fading or getting destroyed.  You can also
spray the front of shirts before they are first worn to prevent food stains
from sticking. -- Christine, 33, from FL

Entertaining on a Budget:  Tips from our Readers

Pick a theme, no matter how silly or cheesy, and work around it.  Tie the
refreshments, decor, etc to the theme. Let's sayyour theme is THE OCEAN.
Decorate with sea shells, serve goldfish crackers, bake a cake and use food
coloring to make part of the icing blue (ocean), then crumble vanilla wafers
on the other part (sand) and stick some little paper umbrellas in it.  Use
your imagination! -- Becki, 46, from IN

We entertain constantly and are always looking to keep our "fun" costs down.
When entertaining families with kids we always do a make your own ice cream
sundae bar. (Wonderful during the summer!!) We purchase 2- 1/2 gallon
containers of ice cream (basic flavors), 2 or 3 fudge/caramel toppings,
whipped cream, chocolate chips, cheries and bananas.  We use coupons in
addition to a sale price for EVERYTHING!!! The left over toppings usually
last for several get togethers and so we only need to purchase additional
ice cream.  The dessert is a HUGE hit and over the entire summer averages to
less than $5.00 for each get together! This idea also works great if you
have a really big crowd-- have each person buy a different topping and you
supply the ice cream.  Dessert is covered and everyone makes a sundae they
love!!  Enjoy! -- Andrea, 34, from NJ

Real Moms:  Best Bargain Ever

At a garage sale I got 14 out fits for $19.50.  They were Tommy Hilfiger and
Polo.  At a store I got a pair of baby GAP cords for $2.49
At the grocery store they had "reduced for quick sale" hamburger for
$.69/lb. for 90% lean and chicken breasts were $.89/ lb. -- April, 22, from
IA

When we remodeled our master bathroom, we knew exactly what bathtub we
wanted.  We went to Lowes, and come to find out they had just restocked them
with tubs that were two inches more narrow that what we wanted.   So, the
only one left was the display.  We spoke to the manager and hauled the
bathtub home in our van for $75. -- Angie, 33, from MS
