"What you teach your own children is what you really believe in." -- Cathy
Warner Weatherford

==============================================================

Hello!

Sydney and I signed up for the Blockbuster online DVD rental program
that was in the newsletter last week, and have been having lots of fun choosing
our movies.  They have a lot of choices for kids like Disney Movies, Dora, Barney,
Clifford, and other favorite characters. We get them in the mail, along with pre-paid mailers
to send them back.  When we send one back, they send us another on our list.  It's really fun!
Here's a link to a free two-week trial: http://www.mommysavers.com/deals/blockbuster.htm

Have a good week!

Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Cleaning
For getting grease marks out of clothing, I have found that Citra-Solv works
really well.  I bought a huge bottle of it and picked up a medium-size
dropper style bottle (or you could use an empty eye drop bottle) to focus it
just where you want it.  This will save you using excess product when you
don't need to and just makes it easier to handle.

Without trying to sound like an advertiser, OxyClean does work awesomely for
one thing - dried, set-in blood.  Just immerse the area that is affected in
a bowl of cold water and dump a few spoonfuls of OxyClean on top - make sure
that there is enough water for the OxyClean to dissolve completely, and let
it set for at least half an hour.  I did this with a king-size bedsheet the
other day.  I did not soak the whole sheet - just the affected area in a
small bowl, and now my white sheet does not look like a "casualty." --
Laura, 34, from GA

Leftovers
Whenever I have leftovers I take masking tape and a permenant marker and
write what it is and when I made it. I pay more attention to whats in the
fridge when I can see what it is.  If I have to guess it sits unused
longerand then I waste it. -- Julie, 35, from KY

Halloween:  Tips from our Readers

For each of my boys' first Halloweens, I made them a football player costume
that could be worn all year, each with one of Daddy's numbers from when he
played football in high school and college. I purchased sweatpants with
either a stripe down the side, or painted a stripe with fabric paint. I also
purchased a sweatshirt in the same color as the stripe, usually contrasting
to the pants (gray pants with a blue stripe = blue sweatshirt). I then
painted the sweatshirt with fabric paint putting one stripe around each arm,
large numbers on the front and back, and our last name on the back. I then
made shoulder pads from an extra thick white foamie sheet (9x12). I cut a
circle out of the center and then cut that circle in half. I made a cut from
the center hole to one long edge, and then poked holes on that edge for the
laces. I rounded off the short ends and attached the half circles (from the
center) to those edges, again poking holes and lacing them). It fit great
under the sweatshirt and was soft so as not to hurt him at such a young age.
Each was also able to wear the sweatshirt and pants until they grew out of
them. Those outfits are now in our cedar chest! -- Deb, 33, from MN

What's Cookin':  SLOW COOKED SWISS STEAK

3 to 4 lb. round steak
1 can stewing tomatoes
2 Tbsp. flour
1 1/2 sliced onions
flour for flouring meat

Cut steak into serving size pieces; tenderize. Combine
2 tablespoons flour with stewed tomatoes. Set aside. Flour
meat and lightly brown in medium skillet with small amount of
oil. Layer steak pieces, onions and stewed tomatoes in slow
cooker. Cook 6 to 7 hours on low or 3 to 3 1/2 hours on high.

This recipe came from our slow cookery page:

Real Moms:  In the Kitchen

I take a day during each season and cook to fill the freezers. I cook
lasagnas, baked spagetties, all sorts of casseroles, soups, etc. Then on
days when we are running short on time (or money), we pull out the food and
have a ready homemade meal. -- Sabrina, 27, from VA

Have a snack rack.  My girls were constantly callin me at work, asking what
they could have for a snack.  Finally I put in a small wire rack and filled
it with fruits, small bagged up cereal pouches, and a cookie jar.  The rule
is that they can have anything on the rack, but if they chose the cookies,
they could only have 2.  Since the cereal and fruit are more filling. I
don't worry about their snackin on junk after school when I'm not there.
Has been a great addition!! -- Laura, 29, from OK

I love using bran flakes from the health food store when I am making muffins
or sweet breads.  Just substitue 1/2 a cup of the bran for the flour you are
using.  Adds texture and fiber to all sorts of things. -- Monica, 26, from
WA
