Gift Wrap Ideas:

Ever wonder how much money and time we spend on selecting the perfect gift
wrap?  How about calling/visiting your local newspaper office and asking if
the end rolls of plain newsprint is available!  In our towne, this paper is
100% free!   Select several holiday themed stamps and several colors of
stamp pads.  Wrap gift and let your kids go wild with the stamps!  Tie with
ribbons or sisal twine and you have a perfect personalized package!
Newsprint can be recycled, commercial wrap cannot. -- Frances

Another tip for inexpensive wrapping is to use the brown paper bags from the
supermarket. It is especially helpful for large gifts. I just wrap the gift
in the brown paper bag and you can usually dress it up with ribbon. Or my
son decorates the bag with rubber stamps, glitter glue, markers etc. It has
come in handy plenty of times when I needed last minute wrapping paper. --
Melissa, 35, from NY

During the year, as I visit garage sales, etc, I collect candy and popcorn
tins of various sizes.  I use these to store Christmas decorations and
ornaments in during the majority of the year.  At Christmas time these tins
end up under the tree with the presents in them.  I have also purchased
various Christmas prints and made drawstring bags of various sizes.  There
are some really beautiful fabrics that outdo any wrapping paper.  I didn't
acquire these all at once, just a little at a time.  I keep my eyes open and
also acquired a beautiful set of cloth covered hat boxes for the same
purpose.   -- Rachelle, 42, from MN

To save money I save my christmas cards from year to year and cut the front
of the card off and use them as gift tags on christmas gifts. When I am
wrapping my gifts I just sort through the cards till I find one that is
appropriate. -- Lori, 33, from IL

Christmas:  Tips from our Readers

Two other neighbors and I meet at one of our houses a few weeks before
Christmas. Each of us bakes three varities of cookies and spend the entire
day together baking. Before I go to my neighbor's house, I premix my batches
so I can start baking right away while my neighbor starts to mix hers. We've
gotten it down to a science and things really move along efficiently and
before you know it we have nine varities of cookies. We split the cookies
between us. I end up packing the cookies in a tin and delivering it to other
friends in the neighborhood or bring it to the office. For the last three
years, it's become a Christmas tradition with my two neighbors and we have
fun memories of us baking together. Not only does this save time and money,
but it's a fun way to get into the Christmas spirit. -- Catherine, 30, from
PA

I save my Christmas cards from each year that I receive as well as any
extras I might have & make gift tags for the next year for gifts.  Cut the
fronts off the cards & trim to whatever size you'd like.  You can even punch
a hole in the top and put pretty ribbon through it.  Great way to make a
unique tag & your cards do "double duty." -- Leslie, 32, from NC

For a Christmas decoration I bought a bag of cranberries and put them in a
clear glass vase with some red and gold ornaments. It looks great and I also
put some red Christmas lights around it on the table to make it glow. It
cost less than $10. -- Kacee, 20, from MN

What's Cookin':  Buffalo Chicken Dip

INGREDIENTS:
2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Ranch dressing (I used Bleu Cheese and like it even more)
3/4 cup pepper sauce, such as Franks?® Red Hot?® (I used a tad more Frank's)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Serve with:
1 bunch celery, cleaned and cut into 4 inch pieces
1 (8 ounce) box chicken-flavored crackers

DIRECTIONS:
Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated
through. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Cook, stirring until well
blended and warm. Mix in half of the shredded cheese, and transfer the
mixture to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover,
and cook on Low setting until hot and bubbly. Serve with celery sticks and
crackers.

Real Moms:  Money Saving Tips

I buy all of my girls clothes at local thrift or consignment shops. One of
them even has a .25 cent bin.  Everything is in great condition and I feel
better knowing I am not wasting my money on something they're only going to
wear for a short time anyway. -- Mary, 34, from FL

Always watch clearances in case there is something that you would buy
anyway. Find out which nights the restaurants around you have kids night.
Some have "Kids eat free night". -- Amy, 27, from OH

If I don't need it right away I will always try to find it on eBay or yard
sales.  I have yet to pay full price for something I can wait for.  We only
have a short yard sale season in PA so I try to find everything I want to
tide me over until next year. -- Courtney, 28, from PA
