With a lot of things, your rebate equals the purchase price. If you take a gift card as your rebate, you get 10% more. It's like getting it free! Dorothy, 72, from TX Swim Diapers I mentioned this tip to some other moms at a splash park the other day when speaking of the expense of swim diapers, and I was surprised they hadn't thought of it: Since swim diapers really only hold solids in, if not used for that purpose, they can be "recycled," i.e. rinsed/washed and reworn. I have even run them through the washer and dryer 2-3 times - they hold up really well. I would not do this if they had gotten poopy, of course. This has really helped because we are frequently (daily!) at the pool or beach. -- Jamie, 32, from FL Homemade Toys Save your empty liquid laundry detergent measuring caps. They work great as bath toys and outdoor sandbox toys. If you buy a variety of brands of detergents you can collect a neat assortment of colors - green, blue, pink, clear. My 2 year old son loves to dump and scoop and pour water from them and into them. Then when the caps wear out - simply recycle them! -- Julie, 27, from MN We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! So I tried something knew and the whole family loves it. It's my inexpensive version of Auntie Ann's new pretzel dogs. All you need are hot dogs, cheese and crescent dinner rolls ~the ones in the can that you "pop" open and bake. You can use whichever brands you want. Roll out the crescent so it's flat, place the piece of cheese on top and the put the hot dog in and roll it up so the hot dog is covered by the crescent and cheese. Bake it in the oven per the directions for the crescent rolls and Voila! --you have a yummy new way to enjoy hot dogs! -- Melissa, 28, from OH ----------------------------- Real Moms: Uses for Shoe Racks If you have a front closet with a regular door, hang a shoe rack with the pockets on the inside. We use it to keep all of the stuff you need for outside. Sunblock, lip balm, sunglasses, mittens, hats, coupons, pens, paper, etc. Anything I might needs as I'm walking out the door. It also works great for kids, you put there things in the lower pockets. -- Tara, 31, from Shakopee MN Back of door PLASTIC SHOE RACKS: There are 24 clear plastic pockets so you can see everything you put in there. I have 1 on the back of most of my closet doors. BABY'S ROOM: hair bows, hats, clippers, etc. COMPUTER ROOM: Office supplies and computer items. GUEST BEDROOM: My cards are organized there, pillowcases, winter scarves and hats. -- Kelly, 34, from Port St. Lucie, FL These great hints came from our Real Mom Profiles. Keep 'em coming! While on the walk, have kids find things to put on the tape... leaves, flower petals, blades of grass, small pebbles, etc. When you get home go over whats on the bracelets with the kids and let them make up stories of the wild outdoors! -- Pam, 30, from NY Have a fun idea to share?
