Mommysavers Newsletter -- July 18, 2005 Visit our site for more great resources: http://www.mommysavers.com "Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort." -- Franklin D. Roosevelt ============================================================== Hello! Tonight I'm taking Sydney to her first concert, Hilary Duff, who is playing right here in Mankato. We are going with three other moms and their girls. It should be a blast! They are still good for small electronic toys, wall clocks, pagers, walkie talkies, etc. At Walmart, the photo developing clerks are asked to recover all disposable camera batteries so the managers can use them in their walkie talkies. You paid for those batteries, you keep those batteries. You can even purchase the batteries and disposable camera cheaper than purchasing a package of premium batteries! -- Kimberley G., Locust Grove, GA Kids' Clothes I recently started folding the kids clothing the way I pack for vacation. I roll a complete outfit up with everything they need to get dressed for the day. I call them their clothing bundles. It's easier for the kids to grab an outfit and I no longer have the "I don't have anything to wear" statements. My kids are older so they know they have to let me know when only 2 bundles are left. Another benefit is that I know if they have enough clothes that go together. My daughter had 20 more T-shirts than she needed, my son grew out of most everything but I knew he needed at least 5 new pairs of shorts to start. I never have to argue about what is appropriate with my daughter anymore so it's a relationship saver as well! P.S. They have 10 seasonally appropriate outfits each. -- Karen C., Easthampton MA Kids' Artwork When my daughter brings home art/ work from preschool I put the month, day and year. Then I always keep the first and last of the year to see how she has grown and let her pick 2 others. Then we put them in a 3 ring binder to save. The rest are given to friends and family and can be used as wrapping paper. -- Alissa K, St. Paul MN We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! Start with untreated lumber, cut the wood into various sizes, sand off any rough edges, stain the wood and then seal them with polyurethane. You can even let your kids paint pictures on the blocks before you apply the polyurethane. A Cool Treat for Dogs Put chicken or beef broth in ice cube trays and freeze it. Give them to your dog as a refreshing snack on a hot summer day. Longer Life for Your Carpet - Vacuum Regularly Dirt helps wear down the fibers in your carpet. Vacuum regularly and place a welcome mat at your home's entrances. Also consider a "no shoes" policy. High traffic areas can often use vacuuming once a day while low traffic areas can be vacuumed a couple of times a week. Tips courtesy of ThriftyFun.
