"Only Adam had no mother-in-law. That's how we know he lived in paradise."  --Old Yiddish Saying

==================================================

Hello!

August is here and summer is winding down.  It's hard for us to believe our baby will be here in just over a month!  I'll be happy if I can get through these last few days of swollen ankles, sore backs, heartburn, etc.

Have a great week!

Kim Danger

Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Cleaning
When cleaning Venetian blinds, soak them in the bathtub with hot water and a splash of Pine Sol. Let them soak while you are doing other household
chores, then run a scrub brush over them and rinse. No more hard core scrubbing. -- Leanne from IN

Gift-Giving
Also, I keep a "gift closet" in my home of items that I find on sale and clearance that can be used for birthdays, Mother's Day, etc.  I keep a list of the item and who it is for and what occasion.  I also keep some generic ones and put them on the list as well for last minute gift giving occasions. It has saved me many a last minute trip to Target. -- Melissa from GA

Cooking
I loved the convenience of the Green Giant frozen vegetables that come in small plastic bags that you just vent and microwave; one box (10 oz.) contains enough vegetables for one dinner.  Trying to be more cost conscious, I decided to purchase a box of quart-sized freezer bags and have started buying the large (32 oz.) store brand bags of our favorite vegetables.  I divide the veggies into the freezer bags (I get four freezer bags from each bag of veggies since we are a very small family) and freeze them.  When dinner time rolls around, I select a baggy, vent it, throw it in the microwave for three minutes, and we end up with the same thing I was buying before & at one-fourth of the cost!  I wish I had started doing this years ago. -- Morgen from ME

What's Cookin':  Bell Peppers and Onions with Polska Keilbasa

This is the easiest recipe I have ever made!!!

1 jar of spaghetti sauce
1 link of Polska keilbasa sausage, sliced
1 small onion, slices
1-2 bell peppers green, sliced
Butter
1 package large egg noodles (or whichever you prefer), cooked

In a large skillet, melt butter and add onions and peppers. Saute for 5-7 minutes (or until desired tenderness). Add sliced sausage and saute until meat is well done. Add spaghetti sauce and cook until sauce is heated through. Serve over hot cooked noodles. -- Annette from TX

Real Moms:  The Most Challenging/Rewarding Thing About Parenting

Challenging:  Dealing with temper tamtrums in public. They seem to peak around three, then hide for a few years and reappear around 11!  Puberty, I am not sure I'm ready for this! -- Diane, 27, from NC

Challenging:  Being a Mom to a TEEN & a A.D.H.D. boy *Phew* HELP??!! -- Becky, 33, from IN

Rewarding:  I realize that I am older that most of the women that write in to this group.  But, I want to tell all moms; especially single moms that if you build a good foundation with your kids from the beginning, you will have a clear heart as the kids get older.  My boys are not picture perfect, but I am not ashamed of the outcome so far.  Children make mistakes as well as adults, but it is how a parent reacts to the mistake (that makes a difference).  I have been a single parent for more years than I want to say and I am a happy mom.  My boys are doing well.  I have one in college and two in high school.  They are heavy into baseball and basketball.  I am there at every event and meeting.  I am there when they win a game and I am there if they happen to lose a game.  Everyone that to I speak to talks highly of the boys.  That makes me feel good and I feel that I am doing a pretty good job.  Most of all, never think that you can be a perfect parent. There is not a perfect person on earth.  Yes, raising children can be hectic and hard, but can be rewarding.  I see my rewards every day when they step out of their bedrooms.  I look forward to another day with them.  There are parts in my life that I would change if I had a chance, but I would not change a thing when it comes to them.  My reward is that I have them and they made me the way that I am to raise them the way they are.  -- Angela, 40, from SC

Fun for You and Your Kids: Paper Towel Art

You'll Need:
Paper towel
Newspaper
Food coloring or unsweetened Kool-Aid or Jell-O powder
Clean, empty salt shakers (optional)

Lay a piece of paper towel over newspaper and show your child how to drop food coloring onto the paper towel.  Use different colors to make an interesting design.  For variety, wet the paper towel first and lightly shake unsweetened Kool-Aid drink mix or Jell-O powder onto it.  Use a variety of vivid colors and let them dry for a beautiful result.  For younger children who might be tempted to dump the entire package at once, put the drink mix or Jell-O powder in a clean, empty salt shaker before using.
