Money/Time Saving Ideas:

Conserving Soap
I am a mother of three and as well as a licensed family home day care
provider.  We wash our hands a lot and I always use pump bottles for the
soap. They always push out too much making a mess and wasting soap.  I put a
rubber band around the part that you push down and the bottle.  Now the kids
can get the soap easily without making a mess. -- Denise from VA

Hard Water Stains
We have extremely hard water that is damaging to appliances, terrible
tasting, and very hard to clean.  We found Kaboom by Orange Glo,  and it is
awesome.  No more scrubbing or using multiple cleaners to try to clean the
bathroom.   I spray it once a month in the dishwasher and on the heating
element to remove the hard water build-up.  Kaboom has saved me tons of time
cleaning and added a little more life to my dishwasher! -- Kim from CO

Beauty
Facial Toner:  I use Witch Hazel I bought at Walmart for 96 cents for a face
toner.  It works very well .  Heals breakouts, minimizes pores.  I am very i
mpressed, I had read somewhere that a lot of stars use it. -- Jody from WI

Cleansing Towels:  I like the Daily Facial Clensing Cloths from Ponds, but
at $7.99 for 30 that's a lot.  So I took a paper towel, pumped face wash on
it, let it dry, and cut it to size.   Just run them under water and they get
soapy just like the expensive cloths. -- Danielle from PA

What's Cookin':  Pasta Bake

1 pound dry noodles (any variety works well)
1-26 oz. jar spaghetti sauce
8 oz mozzerella or monterey jack cheese, grated

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  In a large casserole dish or cake pan pour in
uncooked noodles.  Add spaghetti sauce and two jars of water. Stir well.
Bake for approximately 35 minutes or until noodles are tender.  Sprinkle
with grated cheese and bake for another ten minutes or until cheese is
golden brown and bubbly.

This recipe is easy, and cheap.  It can be doubled for large families as
well. For a variety you can add cooked ground beef, seasonings - whatever
your family likes. -- Melanie form CA

We need YOUR recipes for our newsletter! **We've recently had requests for
vegetarian and lactose-free recipes.

Real Moms:  Money Saving Strategies

We raise our own chickens, they are much cheaper and meatier than store
bought.  I can tomatoes, salsa and applesauce every year.  I find that
making home made mixes saves A LOT.  Two we really like are ranch dressing
mix and taco seasoning.  Making food from scratch instead of prepackaged is
much cheaper and healthier.  We find many of our clothes at Goodwill.  Also,
pay cash whenever possible and stick to a budget. -- Vicki, 36, from MN

Shop at the bakery thrift shop, read your local grocery store ads and shop
for sale items and specials, freeze meals for busy nights, we eat a lot of
pancakes and soup. -- Teri, 37, from MI

Research what you use all the time, try different brands, and buy the one
you like best, regardless of price.  If you don't like it, you aren't going
to use it, or you'll use it (such as foods) and then no one will eat it and
it will be wasted money anyway.  And remember when doing things to save
money, that if it saves just a buck or two, but takes 30 minutes to an hour,
you are "saving" money, but you may be "spending" time that belongs to your
kids.  They are only young once - make the most of every minute. -- Laura,
26, from TX

Fun for You and Your Kids:  Alphabet Match-Up

You'll Need:
Clothespins
Paper
Tape
Pen or marker
Old magazines
Scissors

Write the letters of the alphabet on small pieces of paper and tape them to
the clothespins, or print the letters right on the clothespins.  Cut out
magazine pictures, one for each letter of the alphabet, and have your child
match the clothespin letters to the beginning sounds of the objects in the
pictures.  Clip the clothespins to the corresponding pictures.
