If you talk to them skillfully, you can help them to build future dreams." -- Jim Rohn ================================================== Hello! Last week was a big one for us with Sydney's first day of preschool, plus adjusting to a new baby. With all the changes in our family, it will be great to get into a routine. To view a couple pictures of our new family, click here: http://www.mommysavers.com/nicholas_william.htm There are some fun sales this week, including the Gap's summer clearance. When I get ready to go to the grocery store, I peel the sheet off and take it to the store (or, if it's not too long, transfer the list to a small piece of paper). If we've got coupons, I write a "C" in a circle next to the item and know to bring that coupon with me. These dry erase sheets are inexpensive and can be cut down to any size. They are easy to put back up after peeling off, too. -- Lisa, 47, from TN Health Club Memberships As an aerobics instructor, I get paid to teach fitness classes and use the gym at any time without having to pay for a membership. You don't have to be an instructor to receive a free or discounted membership. A woman's only gym I once attended, discounted membership fees for mothers who volunteered in the fun center caring for children a few hours a week. -- Allison, 26, from KY Beautfy Witch Hazel (found at Walmart for 96 Cents) can be for several other things besides the best (and cheapest facial toner). Witch Hazel can be used on bug bites, cuts and scrapes, and hemmoroids. It is the same stuff found in the Tucks pads but for a much cheaper price! I save a lot of money by buying one bottle of Witch Hazel that lasts for at least a month at a time instead of buying different products for all of the above. -- Sara, 27, from NY We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! It's easy to make and has a beautiful presentation. Prep Time: Approx. 30 Minutes. Ready in: Approx. 30 Minutes. Makes 1 - 7x11 inch pan (15 servings). 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1/2 cup butter, melted 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese 1/4 cup milk 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar 1 (21 ounce) can blueberry pie filling 1 cup heavy whipping cream 3 tablespoons white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract In a small bowl, stir together the graham cracker crumbs and butter. Set aside 1/2 cup for topping, and press the rest of the crumbs into the bottom of a 7 x11 inch baking pan. Set aside to chill in the refrigerator. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and milk until smooth. Spread evenly over the chilled crumb layer. Spread the pie filling over the cream cheese layer, and chill while preparing the whipped cream. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, sugar and vanilla until stiff, spread over the top of the blueberry layer. Sprinkle the top with the remaining graham cracker crumb mixture and keep chilled until serving time. -- Alicia, 33, from OK We need YOUR recipes for our newsletter! Submit them here: http://www.mommysavers.com/share_tips.htm ----------------------------- Real Moms: Saving Strategies Money saving tip: I reuse the Dorito 3-D containers (the little black ones with a lid, that my husband gets for free from the school he works at, which is another great saver for us!) to make pencil holders, hair-clip holders, etc, as well as for sending chips in for my younger sons' Scouting events. They also make great giftboxes for long thin items, such as brush and comb sets, etc. I just cover them in pretty contact paper, slap a bow on the top, and voila, an interesting package, that the receiver always wants to open first! -- Connie, 37, from KS Use store brand formula to save money. If baby is really partial to one brand, try substituting only one scoop per bottle. It still adds up to a saving. -- Cora, 34, from IL I shop alot at garage sales. It's great to buy used clothing and shoes. I also clip coupons and shop at stores who offer double coupons. I save a lot of money this way. -- Annette, 41, from SC These great hints came from our Real Mom Profiles. Keep 'em coming! To fill one out, click here: http://www.mommysavers.com/real_mom_profiles.htm ------------------------------ Fun for You and Your Kids: Birthday Time Capsule You'll Need: Envelope Writing paper Pen This is a wonderful tradition for young and old alike. Each birthday person prepares information to be put into their "time capsule." Ask questions of young children and write down their responses. You may want to ask about favorite foods, songs, activities, friends, and so on. Ask what your child looks forward to over the year, and what he expects life to be like next year on his birthday. When everything is written down, place the paper in an envelope labeled with the birthday person's name and the Date to be Openened (next year's birthday). You'll all have a lot of fun when the time capsule is opened.
