Put the evelope in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed. -- Tonia, 32, from Rowland, TX Birthday Parties I recently learned of some great birthday gift ideas for parents concerned about their kids having too many toys. A couple of ideas are movie tickets, tickets to special events like Disney on Ice, or vouchers for free lessons (art or piano classes). My absolute favorite (and fairly frugal) idea was taping Chuck E. Cheese tokens inside a birthday card. It doesn't take up a lot of space and kids love it. -- Stephanie, 31, from Mebane, NC Freecycle Join your local chapter of freecycle.org. I have received so many great toys and second hand clothing for my kids this way (for FREE), including many larger Little Tikes type of toys, and even some things to help with birthday party decorations. It is a great way to get rid of clutter in your home, as well, by clean sweeping and giving away the items in your home you no longer have a use for any longer. -- Amy, 33, from York, PA By submitting a tip, you're eligible to win in our Veggie Tales contest! http://www.mommysavers.com/veggie-tales-contest.shtml ------------------------------ What's New: Real Mom Profile: Laurie, 27, from Delta Junction Alaska Laurie loves cooking from scratch and has some great tips on where to get the best recipes with the most frugal ingredients... http://www.mommysavers.com/real-mom-profiles/3.19.2006-laurie.shtml FrugalJo: Rewards Gone Wrong Potty training M&Ms help FrugalJo through a rough patch... http://www.mommysavers.com/frugal-jo/index.html Picture of the Week: "Even a Mom Can't Resist" Submitted by Michelle from NJ Michelle writes, "Daddy used this underhanded way to get back in Mommy's good graces." http://www.mommysavers.com ------------------------------ HOT Deals: *Get $10 off your $50 order at Old Navy *Get a free Fisher-Price toy when you spend $25 *Hot Bargains at the Disney Store Outlet - Save up to 75% *Free shipping on any order at Joann.com *Buy Robots and Ice Age DVDs together for only $12.97 *Woman's Day Magazine only $3.99/year *Two years of Family Fun magazine for only $5.25 *Book Closeouts Dollar for Dollar Sale - HOT! In a large mixing bowl, mix together crushed vanilla wafers, confectioners' sugar, cocoa, and butter or margarine by hand. Press ingredients into a 9 inch springform pan. In the top of a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips, making sure that they are very smooth. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy with an electric mixer. Gradually beat in condensed milk until smooth. Mix in melted chocolate, eggs, and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer on low speed until the ingredients are thoroughly blended. Pour the filling into the prepared crust. Bake at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 55 minutes. The cake will seem underbaked in the center, but will continue to cook after you remove it from the oven. This came from our Desserts forum: http://www.mommysavers.com/discussion/index.php?showforum=11 ------------------------------ In the Forums: Learning to Read My daughter is in kindergarten and learning to read. We are having a problem with how they are teaching her to do it. They're teaching them to look at the picture and then say what the sentence says, which pretty much means my daughter is guessing at what the words say and hoping they are right. She is not learning or being taught how to sound them out at all. How do you go about teaching them to sound it out? What methods do you use to teach your child how to read? I need your ideas! http://www.mommysavers.com/discussion/index.php?showtopic=29180 Packrat Husband My husband is a pack rat! He saves and collects everything. Every magazine he has ever gotten is in a box. Newspapers, he has piles of them. He still has every t-shirt he has ever gotten, even from high school. Every present he has gotten, even if he never liked it or has taken it out of its box. He still has toys from when he was little because he might want to look at them someday. Now my daughter is catching on to the hording of things. I find all the stuff I am missing through out the house under her bed. Help!! His stuff is taking over the house. Any ideas? He gets vicious when I bring it up to him. Kind of like an attack dog when you take away his bone. HELP! http://www.mommysavers.com/discussion/index.php?showtopic=28501 Good Manners: What Do You Expect? What do you expect of your children? Seats given up for elderly or other adults on buses, thank you notes written for gifts (slipping a bit in some age groups), children shake hands when introduced to their seniors (next generation and above), etc. Just some of the ways over here, are they very different to yours? http://www.mommysavers.com/discussion/index.php?showtopic=29193 ------------------------------ Book Closeouts Sale: Spend $25, get $25!
