I also have to either clean off the knife or use two different ones because my son is allergic to eggs and my daughter loves tuna (mayonaise). So what I do when I bring home a new loaf of bread is take the whole loaf out of the bag, stand it up straight and with a large kitchen knife, cut off the whole crust, then replace the bread back in the bag so that it is ready to use. -- Michelle, 36, from NJ Cleaning I dusted my ceilings with the dry Swiffer. Then decided to wash the walls and ceiling using the wet swiffer cloths. I wrung out the wet cloths, applied them to the dry swiffer and it works! Sure beats the "old-fashioned" method. -- Grandma Susu, 53, from MI Organization I make a "life book" out of a 5 subject notebook and include sections such as budget, frugal tips, recipes/menu plans, goals/misc, and household tips. That way I have all of my ideas in one place and it organizes all of my important ideas. -- Rebecca, 24, from CA We need YOUR tips for our newsletter! Are you a stay-at-home mom who has found a way to make extra money in her spare time? Here is what some of you said: "When my husband and I started having children I wanted to stay home with them. Unfortunately we couldn't afford to do without an extra paycheck, so I started doing daycare. I also pay for "little extras" by making and selling my crafts at craft shows and at a local consignment shop." "I stay at home. I was going to have a yard sale and decided to try eBay. I sold all of my items for more than I could have ever gotten at a yard sale! Now I go to yard sales and thrift stores to buy things to sell! I guess it is more of a hobby, but I have made a nice amount of "extra" money!" "Well, to make a few extra bucks, I do on line surveys and some mystery shopping. I find this enjoyable and the cash certainly doesn't hurt!!" -- Kelly, PA "I've taught piano lessons after school for 8 years. I love the flexibility I have. I can take vacations when I want to and add or decrease the number of students I teach to fit my needs. I'm also making $20 an hour, which is more than I could make in a full time job, even though I have a college degree." I was on the hunt for a dress for my 10 year High School reunion. I went to the mall (first time in over 2 years) to maybe check out Famous Barr, or something similar. As I finally wondered into almost 6 different stores, I came across one store that had their prom dresses clearanced. Well, I happened to find one that looked more like an evening gown, fit perfectly, and was marked down to $9.99 from $79.99!! Needless to say, I was beaming from ear to ear! -- Elizabeth, 28, from IL My queen size bedroom suite. We went to a store looking for bunkbeds for our sons and they were throwing some furniture out back because it was discontinued. My spouse asked if we could have it and they said sure. We got a perfect queen size headboard and footboard, two matching night stands, a dresser with mirror, and even 2 armoires (the kind that you put a TV in). We use one in the living room. Two days after we were given this bedroom suite, we went back and they were tossing out a new set of bunkbeds which we also brought home. We have gotten two desk sets from the same store just last week. We go by this store 2 or 3 times a week now because they always throw good stuff away. -- Stephanie, 38, from SC I bought my daughters infant swing for $10.00 at a thrift shop when it retails for $150.00. -- Vanessa, 23, from NY These great hints came from our Real Mom Profiles. Relishing the pictures and stories together and then getting to take some home every week for free - could life get any better? Here's one more idea: take 4 x 6 notecards and markers and write your own stories (with or without your kids helping!). Then laminate and cut out each "page" and punch 2 holes on the side of each. Tie the pages together with a string or ribbon to bind them. Make them easy to read, with hand-drawn pictures or real photos - your kids will love them, guaranteed, treasure them, in fact. -- Thanks to the reader who sent this tip!
