Consider hosting a candle party this winter! Earn some free candles for yourself!   I don't do a sales pitch or pressure in any way to buy or book parties, candles sell themselves when they smell the awesome scents, and I'm simply available to answer questions if they want.   It's a relaxed  time with your friends, smelling great scented candles and just having fun!  You can do a theme if you'd like (such as a nacho night, wine & cheese theme, flip flops, or any other creative idea that would be fun) I'm willing to drive up to an hour from Sedro Woolley.  If you'd  like more details on how this works, please email me at:   valerie.garner@joyfuldesignsinsoy.com

I can do fundraisers for groups.  Email me for details if interested!  (I would consider doing out of area fundraisers, please contact me for details)

New Reed Diffusers!  For Skagit County residents only as I'm not prepared to ship these.  Heavy duty square jars helps prevent accidental tip overs.  Long lasting, no flame scenting great for bathrooms, bedrooms, offices or near computer areas.  Simply insert reeds and the oil draws up and out creating a beautiful soft scent.  $18.00 and will last a minimum of a year but should much more than that.  Available in any scent I carry.  Email or call if interested.

Also for local customers, I now have room / linen sprays, 4 oz for $6.50.  Now with your candle or diffuser orders you can match your scent to fragrance your linens.

Closeout

I'm closing out my hunter green punched in electric tart warmers.  These are powered by a light bulb to melt tarts or warmer oils and cast a beautiful light if used in a darkened room.  Normally $25.00, on sale now for $15.00.  I have 8 available.  Email me if you want one or all.  Great gifts.  Comes with a free pack of tarts as well to use.

The Effect of Scent on Moods

When we talk about scents it could refer to a variety of applications.  From the choice of perfume we wear, to lotions we use, candles we choose, oils, potpourris, etc.   It is known that certain scents seem to effect people in different ways.

Some scents are tied to certain memories, and if those memories were good or bad, will probably have a huge influence on whether the scent is liked or not.  For instance, if mom made a great apple pie and there were lots of good memories of that apple pie, odds are you would find the scent of apple pie comforting and homey.  Many people have fond memories of a lilac bush in grandma’s yard.  The list goes on and on.  You may want to ask yourself what scents you typically tie to good memories, those could be a good place to start.

There are categories of scents that are commonly known to have certain affects on people’s moods.  These are listed below:

1.         Romantic scents:  jasmine, patchouli, freesia, gardenia, rose, sandalwood, cinnamon.

2.         Energizers:  tangerine, eucalyptus, mint, lemon, bergamot, ginger.

3.         Calming:  lavender, frankincense & myrrh, cedar, almond, heliotrope, marjoram, hyacinth, vanilla.

4.         Refreshing: eucalyptus, grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, mint, tangerine, rosemary.

This also helps to explain why we tend to prefer different scents based on our moods.  I know mine vary quite a lot, as does my taste in candle scents.   I think that’s true with most of us.  Perhaps it’s time to try another type of scent that you wouldn’t naturally gravitate to, you may find you discover a new favorite when the "mood" hits you.

Candle Tips

To extinguish your wick in a truly smoke free way, take a small piece of wire (paperclip works well)  and use it to push your burning wick into the burn pool, thus drowning it.  Then use that wire to put the wick back in it's original position.

Be sure to trim your wick to ? or ?” before every burn and keep the lit candle out of a draft to ensure a clean burn.  Toenail clippers work great to trim the wick as it burns down deeper into the jar.

Burn your candle 1 hour for every inch of diameter.  For the 12 oz oval hexagon candles, burn a minimum of 3 hours, and the jelly jars and minimum of 2 hours for best results.  This helps to ensure a full melt pool.

If your candle flame ever gets too big, extinguish the wick, trim it and relight.  It's simply because the wick has gotten too long.

Check our website for complete proper candle burning instructions.
