Mother-love in its real sense is an intimate application of God-love. It is enduring, self-sacrificing, and pure, knowing no bounds." Sometimes it is only in retrospect that we fully cherish what mothers do. Good mothers have Christlike love. They sacrifice, love, forgive, love, hope, love, and love some more. While no earthly mother is perfect, many come close as they daily strive to cultivate greatness in a child, as they do their best to teach and nurture, as they realize that childrearing is not a competition but must be tailored to the temperaments and capacities of each child. Just as every child is different, so is every mother. Those unique attributes forge special bonds between mothers and children. And when mistakes are made, good mothers apologize and make amends-and teach their children to do the same. The desire to rear children in love and righteousness, the special ability to love and nurture, and the willingness to express that love in selfless development of another human soul is surely the clearest application of Christlike living. -Mark E. Petersen Thank you Cindy D:) (\o/) (\o/) Grandma's Hands Grandma, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was OK. Finally, not really wanting to disturb her but wanting to check on her at the same time, I asked her if she was OK. She raised her head and looked at me and smiled. "Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking," she said in a clear strong voice. "I didn't mean to disturb you, grandma, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK," I explained to her. "Have you ever looked at your hands," she asked. "I mean really looked at your hands?" I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point she was making. Grandma smiled and related this story: "Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life. "They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the floor. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They held my husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war. "They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special. They wrote my letters to him and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse. "They have held my children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors, and shook in fists of anger when I didn't understand . "They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day when not much of anything else of me works real well these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer. "These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of life. But more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home. And with my hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ." I will never look at my hands the same again. But I remember God reached out and took my grandma's hands and led her home. When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my children and husband I think of grandma. I know she has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God. I, too, want to touch the face of God and feel His hands upon my face. Let's continue praying for one another. Thank you Louise H:) (\o/) (\o/) "We regard the mother as the one who gives shape to the character of the child. I consider that the mother has a greater influence over her posterity than any other person can have." Poets and philosophers, scholars and sages, have long believed that motherhood possesses the greatest potential for good or ill in human life. Children unconsciously model their parents' manner, speech, and conduct. A mother's influence can be an incomparably powerful force for good. Elder Wilford Woodruff said it this way: "Show me a mother who prays, who has passed through the trials of life by prayer, who has trusted in the Lord God of Israel in her trials and difficulties, and her children will follow in the same path". Most mothers seem to have the God given ability to nurture their children. They teach their children to work hard, to persevere, and most of all, to love. They model kindness and respect. They maintain a positive attitude in the face of trials. Indeed, motherhood is the noblest responsibility in the world. -Wilford Woodruff Thank you Cindy D:) (\o/) (\o/) Walk On Good Morning Grandfather, I entered this life a ways back, and put skin on to walk two legged in this Creation. And what a glorious time it was.... It taught me about breath, and about sense, and feeling, and about caring through my heart. And I walked on around that Red Road, Looking and trying to understand more about the mysteries and the secrets She holds. And You spoke to me through the wind. And You sang to me through the birds. And You brought challenges forth so that I might listen to the messages You bring to me more sincerely. And I kept walking down this road. And I came around the bend in the middle of that curve in the road, And I began to find a secret within the spirit of myself. And still I walked on. Sometimes blind and deaf. And sometimes with pain. But I fought with my fears. And I embraced my unknowingness. And my children and family stood with me. And we came to know each other in those later years more than we had before. For some of our falseness had fallen away. And still I walked on. And I kept walking on this road towards You, Towards that other world that grew closer with each step. And as the door of the Great Spirit World came closer, My fear loomed up inside sometimes. But, something called me forth. The Morning Star, Rose with each day. My prayer became a centering. And still I walked on. Until I began to hear the song of the Mother. And Her arms embraced me so... But instead of walking, She carried me right to the door... And as the door opened, I heard Her Song. And Her song lifted me UP... So I could SOAR..... Thank you Marsha G:) (\o/) (\o/) A newborn's conversation with God: A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?" God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you." The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy." Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak." And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life." But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name." God said, "You will simply call her, "Mom." (\o/) (\o/) To all of you from me:) "In the soft and gentle arms of a mother's love, children can come to know the voice of the Lord." —Dwan J. Young I would like to thank my Mom, for being the kind of Mother that taught us about the voice & love of God. Also, she taught us really how to love, not superficial love, but, the kind where you give up a piece of your heart, for everyone you know. She taught us to love, the unloved & unlovable. Thank you Mom:) I love you always! Also, God Bless my wonderful daughter, for being that, & a great Mother as well. I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be:) Happy Mother's Day to all of you & for the love you send me, thank you:) Take care of yourselves and your loved ones!
