We all went out to lunch & they are again on their way. Bet the Calgary Stampede will be great to see this year. Going? Thank you so much for all the great ideas:) Our favorite summer fun is to have our kids and grandkids over for a cookout a couple of times during the summer. We have four kids (that are local) and 5 grandkids (the rest -- 2 kids, 7 grandkids and 2 great-grandbabies! -- are in Texas) -- the (local) grandkids range from age 10 to 17. We have 5 acres that we turn them loose on. They love climbing trees, playing volleyball or badminton, football, frisbee, etc. Even the adults (well, mostly the men) and the dogs get in on the fun. The women generally do the cooking (except for the grilling of course -- after all, that's a MAN'S job... ~LOL~), get everything out, set the table, etc., etc. It gives us the opportunity to catch up on what's been happening in our lives, as well as gossiping and just-for-the-fun-of-it man bashing. (All in fun... all in fun... <smile>) We all sit together while eating on the deck and pick on the kids. They are so much fun! We get the oldest one -- a young man of 17 -- the most; teasing him about his girlfriends, etc. It's all good-natured and sometimes he gives as good as he gets! It's a great time, especially for my husband and I, as we don't get to see them as much as we'd like to during the rest of the year. The grandkids are very involved in school and activities during the school year, so our time together is precious. During the rest of the year, we keep in touch generally via email. The girls send us pictures of the "big" events (football games, proms, dances, etc.) that are like gold to their father and I. Our family has been through a lot over the years but we've always managed to keep the love flowing. It's a diverse group -- I'm not their mother but have been their stepmother for over 20 years. It has not all been fun but we've managed to work our way through the problems and come together as a family. Two of our grandkids are foster kids and of a different race than the rest of us but you wouldn't know it to see us all together! The ALL of the kids and grandkids call me mom or grandma and that is the most precious gift they could give me! I am proud of my "inherited" family and couldn't love them more if they were my own. When the kids are bored, they get out what they want and "create"!
