Christine *-* I am part shawnee indian, although I didn't know this until I was married and in my 20's. My husband and I married in 1966 and I was talking to my mother one day and I was asking her why my grandmother always covered her hair with a turban. I told her I had went to visit her a few years before and when I stepped up to the door, I saw her in the front room bent over combing her hair. She had waist length hair and I was so thrilled to finally see her hair that I called out to her. She imediately left the room and was angry with me. My mother than began to tell me that her mother was 3/4 shawnee and when my mother was growing up, they didn't want anyone to know of their indian heritage because of the social issues back then. My mother told me of going and visiting her grandmother who was full-blooded shawnee and she would do indian dances for her and speak shawnee. Wash and dry in a salad spinner just before using. Refrigerate soft-stemmed herbs; such as parsley, cilantro, basil and dill, in a glad jar with a bit of water. Cover with a plastic bag held in place by an elastic band. To use fresh herbs in hot dishes, add at the end. For cold foods, add early to infuse with flavor. When herbs run riot in your garden, take a handful of sprigs and lightly bruise to release their fragrance.
