Kyle came through the tracheotomy fine & they are already saying that by midweek they want him transferred to accute longterm care. Needless to say she is devastated. This longterm care would still be in Columbus, due to his dialysis & the ventilator. Kay said this is really hitting her hard...reality is setting in. She was too upset to get on the phone...what a sin. Here is what Kay wrote: Hi Everyone, Today is Aug 22/05 and it's Kyles Birthday ( Happy Birthday Honey)............3 weeks ago he was admitted to the hospital for stroke like symptoms with high BP. To date he is called minimally responsive. He still doesn't track with his eyes. He has however wiggled his toes on command and squeezed the nurses hand and mine on command a couple times. It's going to be a long road to recovery.........a very long one as we see it thus far. Today he had a tracheotomy (tube placed in his outter throat area to use the ventilator through). Today they also informed me they want to move Kyle to an accute longterm care facility a hospital within a hospital in Columbus they called it). He can't be moved closer to home as they have to have a facility that can handle the ventilator and dialysis and the local places don't do that.... sad to say. Reality hit home for me today and it was tough. I want my hubby home, safe and sound, even if there is still some things to work on, BUT I know he can't be here with us yet, he needs to recover and get well. Hearing that they want to move him and what will happen from here is; basically wait for Kyle to come around, and they'll do a daily assessment to see how responsive he is. (This was a tough one). We'll know more once he's moved (Maybe Wed) and we get to speak with the people there to see what the daily plan will be.
