Auld Lang Syne

S hould auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Beautiful notes from you:)

My goodness, Patsy, you must have gotten hundreds and hundreds of emails...how did you find the time OR the courage to answer them? I feel you are a Christian and with that said, I am so looking forward to meeting you "in Gloryland". Also looking forward to meeting our "special guy", Rob.
God be with you and yours and here's wishing you and the family a very merry Christmas. It will be a hard one but our gracious Heavenly Father will get you through it.
Love, Bev

Patsy, we have been thinking about you so very much, but our emails kept coming back so I hope you get this one. Do you know about Ice Wine
Coffee? I think that would be a wonderful prize.  I hope you had a good
holiday although it must have been difficult for all of you. Our prayers are with you and Kay always. See you in June.

THE BRICK

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?" The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..." With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me."

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. "Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home.

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: "Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

Thank you Elaine & Arnie:)

No goal, no objective, no purpose, no intent, no target, no mark, and no aspiration matches in importance the ultimate goal of eternal life. Consequently that goal should appear at the top of every list made by accountable children of God.

God's Embroidery

When I was a little child, my mother used to embroider a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed me that she was embroidering. I told her that it looked like a mess from where I was, the underside. I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand.

She would smile at me, look down and gently say, "My child, you go about your playing for a while, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side." I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my view. A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother's voice say, "My child, come and sit on my knee."

This I did, only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy. Then Mother would say to me, "My child, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing."

Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father and said, "Father, what are You doing?" He has answered, "I am embroidering your life." I say, "But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can't they all be bright?"

The Father seems to tell me, "My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on my knee and you will see the plan from My side."

What will matter will not be your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.

The Lord came to me like a dream one
day and asked, "why do you sorrow?"
I answered, "Lord my life is so full of pain,
I can't face one more tomorrow."
The Lord sat down beside me,
and gently took my hand.
He said, "Let me explain to you
and then you'll understand.
Each sorrow is a stepping stone
you must surmount each day,
and every stepping stone you climb
is a sorrow that's passed away.
The road of life is a mountainside,
with crevices in which to be caught,
But as you struggle on your way,
I the Rock, will lend support.
Every stepping stone you climb,
makes spirit and heart grow strong.
Exercising character and faith
this road seems painful and long.
The way is paved with stepping stones,
to uplift your heart and soul,
Though difficult they aid your way,
to a City paved with gold.
I know that you are tired,
for I too have walked this way,
my sorrows did they multiply,
but I cleared many stones away.
I left my rock to lift you up,
I left behind my story.
To give you strength to make your climb,
to that special place in glory.
And never fear, the Rock is here,
you'll never climb this mountain alone
surmount life's sorrows, continue on,
for they are but stepping stones."

Thank you Elaine & Arnie:)

A Christmas Story for you, and it is true...

I became a single parent in 1986, My five and four yr old sons lost their father to a aortic anuerysm Jan 22 of '86. I also had a 12 year old daughter who was his step daughter. The first yr was a typical MESS! School problems, insurance problems, people said they would help with this and that who never did at all (still in 2005 this is true....) At Thanksgiving, someone stole the boys dad's dog, Thor.
He was a registered Shetland Sheepdog, male, not neutered , but was sterile. I assume whomever stole him right from the pen where he was making doo doo before coming in to sleep thought he would be a good stud,.and would use him for breeding.

My older son, Bryan was five. Bryan was bound and determined that there was no Santa. Now we all know that Santa is in your heart more or less, granted. But after seeing this child try to assist his dads PALLBEARERS to take his father to his grave, I did not wish him to lose anything else right then. Dad gone, doggone and Santa is fake was too much for this wodowed mother of three. I prayed long and hard about this.

Then I lost it and placed a nastygram in the local paper about our dog,
thanking the dognapper for capping off a really great year. I also heard that the local flower shop had a Santa with a real beard etc that would visit my home for a donation to the food bank. Too good a deal to pass up. Bryan was flabbergasted. his brother, Kris age four was pleased but had not stopped believing. Sarah, my 12 year old, went along with all my machinations but thought privately that I was nuts. I still hold a photo dear to my heart of Bryan opening the front door with a huge smile on his face. It had been a long time coming, that smile..... All Bryan wanted was our dog back when he sat on Santas lap. that was his Christmas List!

2 days later, after the letter to the Editor and Santa, a phone call came from a village 13 miles to the east. She thought she had found our dog, chained to a tree in her woods. The took warm oatmeal out to him for several days before he would let them approach him to bring him in from the cold. His collar was imbedded in the ruff in his neck. The area was infected. THey took him to a vet, had him cared for fed and loved him, and were prepared to give him up to us if necessary. To be sure he was indeed our dog, I asked her to ask him if he wanted to "Go outside" and to ask excitedly, and tel me what he did. HE WAS OUR DOG! He did a sort of Snoopy Holiday dance spinning around several times. IT WAS THOR!

We piled in the van, drive to their home on RESCUE ROAD...and thanked them paid the vet bill and said a lot of thanks. They liked Thor real well but gave him back to my kids. Our family was as complete as it could be for December 1986 because of this lady named Nancy.

GOD answered a tired mother of three's Christmas Prayer. I know HE's out there. I HAVE PROOF! Four sad hearts were well warmed by Santa, Nancy, and God that were in danger of being forever cold. We remember it still, seven grandchildren and nineteen years later. God Bless! It's TRUE ! Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah.

Thank you Maureen:)

"Choices Rather Than New Year's Resolutions"

As we approach the beginning of a new year, we all
begin to make those resolutions! The number one
resolution people make is to lose waight. And, it
is probably the easiest resolution to break.

Instead of making the choice of losing waight a
resolution--- Make it just that--- a choice. Don't
make it something that you are going to feel
guilty about, if you can't follow it to the
letter.

We get so caught up in trying to be perfect,
that at the least setback, we give up.

Set realistic goals for yourself this year. Don't
make them so overwhelming that they can't be
achieved. Then, add new ones as you reach each goal.

Black-eyed peas, boiled cabbage, and resolutions
are all a part of the traditional New Year's day
fare. And, if you cook your peas and cabbage with
bouillon cubes instead of fatty meats, you are off
to the start of good healthy, low fat food for the
New Year.

This is the first lucky thing that can happen to you
in the New Year...starting it off with good, healthy
eating habits, such as high fiber, low fat foods.

Be safe, be good to yourself, and have a great
holiday. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Will this year be a retread; same old habits, same old mistakes, same old heartaches? Or will this new year be a fresh and wonderful experience? . . . A little more like thee, Lord. A little more like thee! I would have . . . a heart more open to feel thy Spirit, to warm my brothers' needs, and sensitive enough to help fill them . . . a mind more receptive to know thy will. . . a self more ready to help in thy cause, and pure enough to be the temple of my eternal spirit.
